Anyone bring a blender onboard?

We are travelling with some friends and considering bringing the makings for daqueries, etc, along with a blender so we can save ourselves some money and still have slushy drinks.

Has anyone done this? what type of blender did you bring? it would need to be powerful enough to crush ice, but if it's too big it will take up too much room.

thoughts? are we insane??

no offense, but I sometimes find it funny the things people want to bring aboard! I guess if you DROVE to the port, it would not be a big deal to bring certain items, but I can just imagine lugging my blender from Los Angeles all the way to Florida!

Just think, though... not so long ago it would've been UNHEARD OF to bring a case of bottled water on a vacation! Now that doesn't seem so strange at all!

I've taken my blender on vacation before, because it's one of those super high-powered KitchenAids that grinds ice like you wouldn't believe. I hate using blenders in hotel kitchenettes where it's so easy to burn the motor out. Although I don't have an answer to the OP's question, my only concern would be overpowering the circuits in the stateroom. I have no idea if that's even possible, but knowing me, I'd get the wrath of the whole ship for knocking out the power, probably right in the middle of the Animator's Palate show.

What about one one the little bullet type blenders that have the plastic cups that come with it? Don't have one myself but my Mom loves hers

People have done it before but I would haveto be drinking a whole lot of frozen drinks in my room to make it worth for me to lug a blender....and the mixers, etc. And...think of the clean up each time....I would rather spend the $4.00 or so each time and enjoy my drink by the pool!

If you were so inclined...I would suggest the Bullet one as well....

true If it wasn't for the DIS, I would definitely give those people a look at the port that lug a cooler filled with water, or liquor, aboard!

On our 2004 cruise, we made a stop at a walmart (I think that was the store) while driving our rental van from Orlando to the port. We bought an inexpensive Hamilton Blender for $13 and it had 5 speeds. We stopped and got our Margarita supplies and we made frozen Margaritas all week in our cabin. We were with a group of 8 adults and made 2 batches on 5 of the days we cruised. It worked out great and at the end of the cruise we abandoned the blender in our room. It more than paid for itself and we have a much better one at home.

It's crazy, but as I'm cheap...it let's us spend more money on pictures. and we are bringing cups, so you can then cruise up to the pool and use it. I'm actually leaning toward the magic bullet...deal online to get 2 for 1, so we can both have one which will make the drink making that much faster! also, it comes with cups that fit on the base so you can make individualized drinks for everyone, and they walk off with the cup. anyway, thanks for the tips everyone!

and the frozen drinks are typically more than $4....what about a hand held blender? If I drank a lot of frozen drinks we would bring one but I'll stick with wine and regular mixed drinks.

How about shipping it to the ship ahead of time as well. Then there is no need to lug it around.

The Magic Bullet would definitely be my suggestion!

We LOVE ours, and although we didn't have it when we cruised, I will probably bring it next time!

It's really small and compact, yet powerful. And as someone else mentioned, rather than a huge glass pitcher, it comes with plastic, drink-sized mugs that you do the mixing in! So you screw the top of the mug to the blender base, and mix each drink individually. And with the small pieces, it's easy to clean too!

Where are you going to put it if you're flying? In carry on? I would hate to drag that all the way to the boat. In checked baggage? You can put it in yours I'll save the weight of my suitcase for other things.

Otherwise bring what you want it's your cruise!

Just and FYI on the 2 for 1 price: The deals I saw online were 2/1 at $99.98. Linens & Things sells these everyday for $59.99, and they put out a 20% off coupon about every other week, making the cost about $48. (Yes, I am cheap as well)

found a blender on clearance at Wal-mart for $17...I'm now thinking ship it ahead and just leave it on the boat at the end. that way no lugging it around...

unfortunately the magic bullet is around $60...so that's too expensive to leave behind!

I also bought that Hamilton portable blender.. am taking it on the 11 night cruise this Sunday.. tried it here at home first and it worked like a charm. Very compact and lightweight too. I drive to the port so taking an extra box with mixers etc is not a problem. There's a Wal-Mart close to the port though..... just a thought. LOL

I must say this thread gives me a chuckle.

I completely understand what the OP is saying....and if you have the room...go for it.

What makes me laugh is all the stuff that Dis people (and i'm sure others) have left in their cabin after the cruise...on top of food and beverages...there are beach toys, clothes and now blenders. I often wonder what the CMs chat about when this happens. Are they allowed to keep the stuff, do they have to turn it in, does it get thrown away?????

if i left stuff in my room i would leave a note in writing saying i am leaving it there intentionally or specifically give it to someone...if you don't, it probably has to go to lost and found for at least 90 days somewhere...

plus...i would use the blender to make smoothies! what cracks me up is ice cream, milk, chocolate and fruit are all free but if Disney mixes it up for you, it costs $4 plus gratuity each!!!!
