Anyone bought through resale?

We did :sunny: As we are in Ireland Disney can not sell timeshare here so if we had wanted to go the Disney route we would have to be over there on holiday to do it.

We wanted to buy at OKW and going resale was the cheapest way, we saved over $1,600 doing it this way :teacher: The process was fairly painless and took about 3 months from making the offer to closing and making our first reservation.

Tink, did you buy it outright or did you finance with the people you bought it through??

I don't think you can finance through a resale broker Lisa? I think you'd have to arrange that yourself.

Thats what we thought, but on the Timeshare people who sponsor this place they offer financing but we expect its just for US people.

Thought we would ask anyway.

You can only ask Lisa :)

I would have assumed they would be reluctant to arrange finance for non US owners (and potentially non home-owning US owners at that) as the laws for debt collection & recovery from a different country are very different. Plus, they might not be able to credit check you so easily and I would assume they would want to do that before lending you any money. This is all assumptions though so I may be wrong.

With Disney, if you default on the loan they will just whip their points back from you. So they have an excellent safety net. A Timeshare company that offers financing won;t (I am thinking) have that option unless they have a way of linking your DVC to the loan to secure it. I can't honestly see how they would do that though?

Would it not be better to finance it yourself? Also you won't expose yourself to currency fluctuations (unless they could lend in sterling)

Good luck!

Unfortunatley due to past bad credit history we do not believe that we would get a loan to cover this. We can finance with disney but have to put 30% down and be there in person to do it.

Thanks for the advice though, appreciate it.

We bought the small contract outright and took out a loan for the larger one. I read your last post and if you go the Disney option it would work out more expensive, is there anyway to get a loan in the UK? (from a reputable source)

Lisa, I work in credit management and there are ways to improve your credit rating. Drop me a PM if you want any help :)

Lisa - sorry! The above post was not Disney Jedi Jon, it was actually me! DH had cookied me. Drop me a PM if you want help, not Jon - he wouldn't have a clue ;)

It doesn't have a licence - I have spoken to a few other Dis'ers in Europe and they can't buy directly from Disney either. The UK seems to be the only other market Disney can sell directly in to.

true, I'm in Holland and had to buy a resale, was no problem!
