Hi . Has anyone used Hotels.com to book a hotel?

are there any "hidden costs" or anything associated with the booking?

Once i book the hotel on Hotels.com is there any extra fees i would have to pay at the hotel once i get there?

thx

Read the entire page for the hotels you are looking at. They are very good at showing any extra fees on the page, but you do have to read it all. And you can check out the actual hotel's site to compare in case the hotel added something that hasn't gotten transmitted to hotels.com yet.

The only surprise I've gotten (since I read the whole page) was yesterday when I found out breakfast wasn't included at our hotel. Half hour later I realized that I was confused with the other hotel I had been thinking of booking. My faulty memory. :)

DH books exclusively with hotels.com for work and we do for leisure. Have used them since 2009 and we have never had a problem.

And many hotels will still add your stay to the hotel's frequent stay program if you are a member of it, or let you have the perks, even if you didn't book directly with them. DH always asks. :)

thank you for the tips

Oh another tip! In case you and your traveling companions (friends, spouse, etc) might be getting in at a different time, use the name while booking of the person that will get there first. Hotels shouldn't let someone else check in (though some had until our one (and only) stay at Ramada Maingate when they refused).

The alternative is to book it in whatever name, then later send a message or call hotels.com and ask them to fax the rest of the names of the people who will stay in the room to the hotel. That's what we had to do to let me check in at Ramada Maingate; I called DH who was at the airport about to board his flight down, he called hotels.com, gave them my name, they faxed the hotel, and about 10 minutes of waiting later they added me to the reservation and I got to check in. Do it ahead of time, if you'll have that situation. :)
