anyone been to Stone Mountain Park in Georgia?

We are planning a trip to Georgia next month & from what I've read, this place seems like a fun place to visit. I'm curious to see if someone has 1st hand info. I found a package for the Marriott @ Stone Mtn. $142 per night (includes breakast & Stone Mtn passes for 4). Any advice?

When I lived in Atlanta, we used to go to the park for the day. I've never booked a vacation around it LOL. It's a beautiful park. They used to do laser light shows at night.

i was there a few years back...i enjoyed myself!! we stayed at a residence inn more in the atlanta area though. stone mountain was really nice. there was a steam boat that took you around the lake...there were a few plantation style homes to peek at...a train ride around the mountain...there was a museum there too. when i was there, there was a gone with the wind exhibit that has since left. we took the tram thing up to the top of stone mountain, which was cool, but then we decided to walk down the mountain...whew!! if you do that, make sure you wear good shoes!!! i thought i was gonna die by the time we reached the bottom!!

overall, i enjoyed myself there and i would go back!!

Went lots as a child and once with our kids. We also rode up and walked down! DD ended up on DH's back part of the way ! No advice on where to stay now.

I used to live in Stone Mountain, Ga and my church had a beautiful view of the mountain. It is breathtaking.

My son is more of an expert on the park than I am. He goes on field trips there regularly in the summer. They have a manmade beach that he loves. On rainy days they took the tram around the mountain which was a blast he told me. I only went to the mountain once when I first came to Georgia to see the laser show which is NOT to be missed.
