We are thinking of going to the one in the Poconos and we were wondering if anyone has been there. What's it like? Did you go to the Spa? We are planning on going with another family, our kids are 13 and 11. About what are the ages of the kids you saw there? TIA for any information. :goodvibes

We have one in Traverse City about 25 minutes from where we live.
We haven't stayed there but have walked all over the place and took a tour of the rooms. It's a nice place and the rooms are so cute. We are going to be staying there overnight in March as a treat for the kids, and will probably book the Kids Cabin suite.

One thing that sealed the deal for us was they said even though check-in wasn't until 3 or 4 we could come that day and use the water park from when it first opened. Same with the next day.....you can stay and use the water park until it closes even once you've checked out.

That made it easier for us to justify spending such a large amount of money to stay at a hotel 25 minutes from our house!! :thumbsup2

Have fun on your trip there!! BTW, the few times we went there (to shop, walk around, eat, etc) the kids in the water park looked younger to me. In the 6-10 age group but that could've been just those times.

we got a brochure from them and it looks great but to fly to get there and stay there we were worried that after 2 days we would get bored with the water park

We have stayed at the Great Wolf Lodge in Wisconsin Dells, and loved it.

As far as the spa - the first time we stayed there - in 2 days - I was not able to book an appointment - I think I was going for a manicure or a mini massage. They were just plain booked. The second time I stayed - I booked a manicure for me. It was very nice~I should treat myself more often! ;) The spa in the Dells is an Aveda spa. When we go back...I'll be back at the spa.

As far as the waterpark - our primary reason for going was for DD to get together with her cousin. First visit (2004), they were 10 and 11, Last visit (2005) they were 11 and 12. Next year, the cousin will be a freshman in High school, and I inquired if both DD and my niece were going to be "too cool", "too grown-up" etc to come back to GWL. They both assured me that they will still be able to find plenty to do.

They loved the Wiley's Woods part of the too - if that is something your GWL has too.

While in the Wisc. Dells area, there are many indoor waterparks (DD loves the Kalahari, we've never been to The Wilderness), we find that GWL offers the best deals for my tiny budget. The 2 times we've been there, our room rates were $119, right before school started, when the bookings for the hotel are way down. We have not had good luck trying to find similar deals at either The Wilderness or the Kalahari.

Not yet, but after hearing about it many times on this board, i did some research and they are building one right now in WA ! So maybe soon......:)

Just went and looked, and it has a spring 2007 opening listed....so maybe a long wait!

We just did the GWL at Wisconsin Dells for MLK weekend. Kids liked it; I was more impressed with the waterpark at the Kalahari (another Dells resort). We'll probably return to GWL next year, though, as they are adding on to the waterpark and we want to see what's new.
I think GWL indoor is good for a weekend, maybe with outdoor waterpark open, too, then another day or so.
Have a great trip! :sunny:
Oh, and our kids are 7 and 11, but I saw kids of all ages there. Not sure if there are enough thrill-rides to keep teens interested for more than a weekend.

Follow up to the last post of that thread. I tried to get a partial refund and they refused. I was sent a letter offering me one free mid week night stay, or a room upgrade if available for a stay of no longer than 3 nights ( which I would have to pay the family suite price for 3 nights ).

No thanks. Really, it is nice, but my wife and I really have no desire to go back. I'm sure that my kids would. But we have access to a cabin near an amusement park called Knoebel's in PA, and they have a great amusement park, and a pretty good water park. And the price is EXCELLENT! The park is inexpensive, and the cabin belongs to my aunt an uncle... they charge us $50 for a whole week,

You can do 3 full days at Knoebel's for the price of ONE day at Great Wolf.

We just saw this on Comcast TV tonight.
They say they are building one in the Northeast.

My kids seemed interested. Looks like a nice place for a few days, or a long weekend.
I am going to look into the site and see when they are coming to the NorthEast or some where close to us. :teeth:

We went to the one in Williamsburg last April. We're going again this weekend with a bunch of friends. If you have the right mindset, it's great. For me, I need a weekend away, it's the middle of winter, and I'm not in shape for a ski trip. This is great, it keeps the kids amused, it keeps the adults amused, and we're not too fussy about food. Yes it's expensive, but its exactly what I'm looking for right now.

We did the Great Wolf Lodge in Kansas City Jan 4-5. My kids loved it, ages 5,8,10. I think the signs say kids under 12 must have adult supervision. We were there when there we NO lines, probably only about 60 people in the whole water park.

Didn't do the spa. I'm sure its nice.

We ate at the restaurant for dinner and breakfast...LOVED it. Got a kids appetizer with ants on a log, pb&j roll ups, etc. Just really fun and tasty too. The hot dog meal came in a bucket. DH and I both got pulled pork and could have shared. Breakfast was part of our room deal and we could choose anything from the breakfast menu except the 2 most expensive meals. It was very nice.

Enjoy!
