Anyone been to Cuba?

Hi All

After finally sorting out my summer hols at work i've book a 2 week trip to Cuba staying in Varedero. If anyone has been can you give us some tips on do's and don't's. Any not to be missed trips or sights. All we are planning so far is a trip to Havana. Looking forward to relaxing this holiday.

Havana is a definate but it is a very long way away and if you get the chance stay overnight and visit the nacional hotel in the evening for a drink.
There are a lot of opportunities for swimming with the dolphins and although they aren't in as posh a setting as discovery cove you can do it three times for the same money.
Take a trip up the inner rivers if you can and see the real cuba away from the beaches, but take lots of mozzie repellent and keep well covered. in fact even if you stay in your whole hotel take plenty of mozzie repellent.
Take a credit card but NOT american express
do not take US dollars, take sterling
do not take a switch card
erm, I think that's about it! beware of pickpockets and scammers in Havana, oh, and have a great time!

My dad went last year and loved it!

My parents got back from Cuba last week, they said it was very noncommercial, beautiful beaches and that the local people were fantastic.

My parents went in Jan this year and had a great time. They said the staff at their hotel were lovely but very underpaid so my parents gave them things like cough sweets which they really appreciated.
