Anyone Been a DVC Member since DAY ONE?

Little know item of interest:

The way I've been told, and understand it, is if you look at the last 5-digits of your membership card, it shows how many members purchased before you. So if the digits read 00001, you were the very first purchaser of DVC. If it reads 12345, that means that 12,344 members purchased before you did, and you are the 12,345th member.

Remember, this is the last 5-digits of your blue 12 digit member number, found on your blue membership card. It is not the contract number for your actual purchase.

Don't know what DVC plans to do when membership hits 100,000 and 5-digits is no longer enough.

Someone posted here at one time and I don't know if they were just pulling everyones legs or not, but they posted that during the first week or sales they gave away lifetime passes. I would love to here that confirmed or not

Do you think the membership number might be resort specific? The last five digits of our number are 00487 & we were one of the early owners at HH in 1995.

Could be as our's is in the low 500's and we bought in 1991.

The minimum point purchase was dropped to 150 in 1995. That's when we made the decision to buy our initial 150 pts at OKW in August.

I started "thinking about it" in '93 when I was a frequent reader of the Prodigy DVC site and OKW was called "Conch FLats". It was the good things that I read there that finally convinced me (and the drop from 230 to 150 pts. minimum purchase).

I figured that we would go every other year in a 1 BR. Ha! It has been more like twice a year and more point purchases to satisfy the "habit". My only regret is that I didn't buy in when I first learned about DVC.
