Anyone Back From Courtyard Marriott?

Ok, I answered my own question and maybe can help someone else.

We checked in this past Sunday and just checked out Friday.

When we arrived, we did have two adjoining rooms. They were on the pool wing on the 4th floor. We had the last two rooms on the 4th floor, by the mechanical closet and fire escape. To get there we had to go up the elevator, down three halls and to the end of a hall. It was quite a haul to go with the suitcases, etc. One room was "ok" and one room was awful and reeked of mildew. I now understand what some of the others have said about the smell. There was no way anyone could stay in that room over an hour much less 5 days. So, we went to the front desk. They had four rooms available and gave my parents a room in the tower on the 6th floor (Interstate side, no balcony) for the week. The safe in it was broken and the closet was so shallow the hangers wouldn't hang in it. Our room was ok, but there was mold in the bathroom and in the air conditioner vent. Besides that, it was ok. It was not mold in the tub it was on the ceiling and around the door frame where you could tell it had been repaired. The tub also did not drain well. I just believe we got the "pit" rooms in the hotel. We couldn't do much about it since there were only 4 rooms available when we checked in and when we swapped my parents room they got one of the last four. I know they put someone in their former room, because we heard kids in it that night. So, truly all rooms were taken.

I know this sounds dismal but I WOULD stay there again. We had such a great room last year and I would stay there again for $20 in a heartbeat. However, if we had not been able to switch the mildew room I believe I would have changed hotels. It was that bad. My parents are elderly and could not have stood it. It was THAT BAD and I thought maybe others had exagerated a little. The smell was overpowering.

On the very positive side, the managers reception we attended most days and they could not have been any nicer. They kept the beer and nachos coming, etc. and were very attentive.

The pool was clean, the housekeeping was great, etc. The housekeeping came early and were great. The buses were on time, etc. and everything else was great.

For the managers reception and rate, I'd stay there again. But, honestly..... I was really disappointed in our rooms compared to last year. It's evident we got the "awful" rooms because of our great rate.

Anyhow, as negative as I sound, I would stay there next year. Maybe this can help someone be more assertive at check in when they go as long as the hotel is not full :) We had no other rooms to choose from.

Previous CBM vactioners, I have a question for you. My DH and my two sons age 8 and 2 all have severe asthma. Do I stay at the CBM or do I attempt to call the manager before I arrive and ask for a refund? I am traveling clear from Utah, and I would be so upset if one of my children had to go to the hospital because of an attack due to the mold or mildew previously described. This is my first stay off-site, but my 6th trip to WDW. In Utah we don't have mold problems. It is too dry here. Yet, I haven't ever had a problem at any of the WDW hotels with cockroaches or mold. I have also considered taking my chances and seeing what type of room I get. Yet, I don't want to feel stranded in Orlando without my computer, or any alternate reservations.
Anyone please comment.

Thanks,

Angee

Yet, I haven't ever had a problem at any of the WDW hotels with cockroaches or mold.

Who wrote about cockroaches? I missed that.

My family of 4 stayed at Ctyd by Marriott on Thursday 8/28 for one night. We were in room 503, parking lot view with balcony. The room was very clean, the balcony had a puddle of water on it. The beds were not level. It was like your feet were higher than your head. I called the operator for a wake up call ..it took me three attempts to reach her. I thought the operator should always be answered. And thank goodness I woke up at 6:00AM because of excitiment of going to Magic Kingdom because I will still be waiting on the wake up call..I never got. However, if I had stayed for more than 1 night I would definitely ask for another room. The manager's reception was great. The staff was very friendly. Would I stay there again? You betcha!

For tootsiemolly: I've stayed at the CBM twice, both with that fabulous $20.0? rate. Last year we were on the 5th floor, overlooking the pool. This year we were in 901 with a balcony and view of I-4. Both rooms were very clean and did NOT have mildew. If you run into trouble, I would first ask to be moved. I think this property is staffed by wonderful people, and I think it's a tremendous bargain for the prices most of us get.

DMRick,

The third person to post on this thread wrote about the cockroach. Plus I thought I would update everyone. I called the hotel directly this morning, and the reservation manager assured me I could have two rooms without any mold or mildew. So I am giving it a whirl. I told her I could not afford to spend my vacation at the hospital. She also said the rooms that had the mold and mildew problem had been closed for refurbishing. So please let me know if anyone else encounters that problem. Thanks!

Is anyone else back from the CBM this week? If so, please fill me in on your stay. Where was your room, what condition was it in, would you stay there again? We leave in two weeks.

Thanks,
Angee
