Anyone avoiding Gay Days at Disney?

The only reason I probably wouldn't go during Gay Days is because of the crowds. The same reason I tried to avoid going during the summer, or the week of Christmas or Easter.

I haven't been to Disney in a long time, but I've seen young straight couples making out in lines for rides at Six Flags so it's not just the gay people. I live in NYC, and I think I've pretty much seen it all so it would take a lot to shock me. My kids probably wouldn't even notice anything.

Disney is not hosting Gay Days. It's a reunion in Orlando, so chances are if you are going that week you ARE going to end up crossing their path(shudders at the thought).

I can't believe someone would cancel their Disney vacation because of this. :sad2:

Amen!
Gay Days takes place basically all over Orlando. The "attendees" visit not only WDW but US/IoA and SeaWorld. They'll be in restaurants and shopping centers and they may even take over the world:rolleyes: . Seriously. To decide you won't visit WDW because you're afaid your children will see ungodly amounts of PDA's is totally your choice...but i find it extremely sad. We were there a couple years ago during this week and saw nothing out of the ordinary. I didn't even know Gay Days was going on until later. Don't think you'll escape PDA's if you go when it ISN'T Gay Days. You certainly won't. My girls have seen lots of things at WDW and lots of other places that scare me much more than some hand holding by two men or two women. What does my 3 yo think when she sees a woman with her double D hoogas falling out of her halter top, or cheeks hanging out of shorts? What about when she witnesses a father screaming at the top of his lungs at his child in front of hundreds of other WDW guests...or, even better, he yanks an arm and beats a hiney? How in God's name do I explain THOSE things to my DD?? Your children have much more of a chance of seeing this at WDW during Gay Days than two people of the same sex making out on a park bench. We are a very open-minded family. My DD's are 3,13, and 17. One of my DH's close friends is a lesbian and one of my close friends is a gay man. My kids are talked to about LOTS of things as early as I think they can handle it. If they see it's okay with me, then its okay with them. I have explained to all my kids that some kids have two mommies or two daddies. Sometimes a man loves a man and not a woman. No BIG DEAL. For those who don't want to..or aren't ready to...explain this thing to their children---well..I just don't understand. I'm scared to death (and have been with each of my kids) of the day when they realize that other people are actually capable of killing, molesting, and HURTING other people. I hate to think of the day my kids realize that society stinks and they will be picked on and judged if their beliefs are not of "the norm". I am NOT afraid, however, of my kids learning about two people loving each other...of the same sex or not. I'm not afraid that my child , at 3yo, will see two men or two women give each other a quick peck or put their arms around each other. What, for Pete's sake, is there to BE afraid of?? My older DD's have seen too much. My youngest has seen things mentioned above. She'll see 2 people being a bit overzealous with their PDA at WDW at some point. Regardless of their "orientation" it will bother me. I can't keep my kids from this stuff. It's a fact of life. Denying your kids a family trip to WDW because of the slight chance of them seeing something you don't want them to see is sad:sad2: .
We will be in Orlando from 6/1 thru that whole week. We are staying in our timeshare and probably won't get to a WDW park until the 6th. We'll be out and about though ,and I'm SO not afraid of the people we'll see. Like another poster said...maybe when gays have the same rights as heterosexuals and are treated with the same respect that the rest of us have, then Gay Pride weeks will fade away(not that those bother me much either)...There are as many heterosexuals who show their hineys(in more ways than one) as there are homosexuals. I need to stop here, as I will go on and on and on and no one wants that....

So...I hope I haven't gone too far OT...and I apologize for the rambling(and any sappiness) but for some reason this is a sore spot for me.

Please don't deny yourself WDW because of something so minute. Go. Stop and smell the roses. Ride the rides. Eat the food. Enjoy WDW for all Walt intended it to be...a FAMILY park...and THAT it most certainly is.:goodvibes :goodvibes

If it were just red shirts and hand holding - it'd be a non-issue. Seems some of you get your kicks sending some unwitting families into that situation and making it sound completely benign - just because in your opinion it is something that everyone should be exposed to.

Let's get this straight (no pun intended). Are you calling those of us who responded to the OP's question by saying we had not seen inappropriate PDA during Gay Days liars?

The thing I like about these threads is that the OP came on about 6 or 7 posts back and announced that he/she had made a decision and this thread's question had been satisfactorily (for him/her) answered.

Then, 6 or 7 posts followed that completely ignored the OP and simply continued to argue.

My wife and I both have friends and family members that suffer from this disorder, so I can tolerate it now more than I could years ago...back then, I would have needed a vomit bag, so pack each person one and you should be fine. Just think, you barf up one turkey leg, you then have room for a Mickey ice cream bar.

How disgusting!

If the existance of gay people makes you want to vomit, then perhaps you should stay home.

Yeah, just substitute Black people or Jews and see how that gets responded too..You put in the word gays and half the people in the world see no problem with it... I know what makes me vomit

Not just liars, but co-conspirators......plotting to make these poor innocent souls see gay PDA's!

Holy cow, it must be part of that "gay agenda"! :rotfl:

Well, the OP ignored everything everyone said too so I guess that's OK. Half a dozen different persons reporting that they saw nothing inappropriate, and she keeps on insisting she will.

I'd be more likely to avoid the dates due to possibility of more crowds, but considering the dates that will be a problem regardless. There's not enough barf bags in the world to contain your ignorance.

This is a joke, right? People seriously aren't considering cancelling their plans because gay people will be in the parks. Come on....this must be a joke!

Yeah, that's true. IMO, the OP's mind was made up when first hearing about the event. I think he/she just came on here looking for validation and didn't find it.

Oh no you didn't just post that !!

Saddened at how bigoted some folks are.

And let me tell you what's sickening and disturbing. Parents forcing their obviously upset children onto rides, g strings hanging out above the pant line, socks with sandals, and fanny packs. Those things are inappropriate! ;)

I've been seeing a lot of threads lately about people's concerns with Gay Days at WDW and everybody seems to get up in arms and very sensitive about them. Maybe people should just ignore any thread where people complain/worry about Gay Days, rather than start an argument about it on a daily basis!

Not everyone who is gay or lesbian, or supportive of gay and lesbian rights will be wearing red shirts at the Gay Day festivities. Some of us have better sense than to wear a dark color in that heat and humidity. :teeth:

Ummmm...just thought I ought to mention that gay folk are at the parks, (yes every park) every day. :yay:

I've heard rumors that a few of the <gasp> cast members are gay

I think the OP just wanted justification of her homophobia, and didn't get it, and now she is mad. Truly if you don't want to expose your children to any inappropriate behavior, stay at home, in the house, throw away the TV, the radio, newspapers, and magazines. The only PDA I have EVER seen at Disney was a man *lack of a better word* "humping" his female significant other on the monorail platform at EPCOT (and, yes, her thong was hanging out)
...and SeaDonkey just needs his account deleted.

Mods...this thread needs closing....
