Anyone avoiding Gay Days at Disney?

Now I want to go. If I can take my shirt off, woohoo. *shudder* I think that I, a grandmother to two, mother to seven, and pregnant with her eighth, would be far more offensive.

PI can get wild no matter when. Just don't go to PI on the designated nights. The parks are fine which was the original question.

Hmm..shirtless, handsome men ..who cares if they are gay..it's eyecandy.

I'm sure if someone wanted to go during that time and search out something that they would find offensive they would probably find it. The same is true any other time of the year (my experience with the naked Brazillian man at Blizzard Beach for example). If you aren't seeking it out and analyzing everything chances are you would notice nothing.

If your trip is scheduled for that time, go and enjoy. Have a magical time. Don't let paranoia ruin your trip.

Really, if you don't want to see men with their shirts off stay away from the waterparks...The clubs at PI don't allow children anyway..The dance clubs are adults anyway.
I also don't get this whole , *gaydays are days to flaunt their sexuality*...This is reducing gay people, and straight ones for that matter, to simply sexual beings...I would presume for most gay people it's a few days out of the year when they can be with people that have a similar outlook on life. It's also a few days when they are less liked to be stared at, made to feel out of place and be talked about by people under their breath...How dare they.
Being gay is not all about sex anymore than being heterosexual is about of sex.

So, why do people go during pee wee football time(or whatever that annoying sport is called)? So that they can meet up with others that like the same, dumb sport... I'd rather go during gay days than when those annoying cheerleaders are there!

OK.....here I was just tripping along the thread.. ..minding my own business.. ..grumbling in the privacy of my own home...and lo and behold, what dost mine eyes see?! An unprovoked attack on cheerleaders! Cheerleaders! WHY, SCHMECK!? WHY?!!? As a former (albeit fading fast ) cheerleader, I'm hurt and insulted. The cheerleaders of the world will unite against all oppressors and....and.....well, I'm not sure yet. But it'll be perky, I'll tell ya that much!


Back OT, and for the record, my family goes almost every year during Gay Days. Why? The sheer fact that Gay Days are scheduled keep another segment of the population home during that time. Without affixing labels, let's just say I find that second group WAY scarier to explain to my kids than a few guys holding hands.

If it would make you that uncomfortable during your vacation, it would not be in your best interest to go. I think you would be too focused in on it. Plan to go another time when there would be less people that might offend you and not bring up any unwanted discussion with your family. However you may run into the same issues throughout the year since there are so many people that go from all walks of life. Just as an FYI Disney does allow same sex weddings and does provide its employees with partner benefits. Maybe you should just sit your family down and explain to them why there will not be a vacation to Disney.

Unfortunately I cannot change my vacation, it's set in stone. It's too bad that my question got way off track. I do not have a fear of gay people and I do not dislike gay people. I simply do not want to expose my CHILDREN to inappropriate behavior and it has been made CRYSTAL CLEAR to me not to expect ANY inappropriate PDA while at Disney because the gay people that attend this event do not carry on this way. I am not sitting down with my family and explaining anything to them, we just won't visit the Disney parks. Please note that this isn't about "gay" people or their choice of lifestyle. I happen to be in an interracial marriage and a lot of people don't "approve" of that either, but.......my husband and I don't go around fondling each other in public or around children. That is a private affection and as RESPECTABLE adults we keep it private. FYI, again I doubt very seriously that the atmosphere during Gay Days is the same as any old day at Disney and believe me if I had known this event was going on during this week , I WOULD NOT HAVE BOOKED IT! This whole discussion began because I found out weeks after I booked it. My family will go to Orlando and enjoy our vacation, just not at Disney attractions.

I've been at Disney during Gay Days, and, quite honestly, there's never been any 'explicit' PDA. Sure, they walk around holding hands...but so do heterosexuals. Don't see the difference. And, other than that, if they're not holding hands or pecking on the lips (as heterosexuals do in Disney, too), you can't pick them out other than their red shirts. I don't like PDA, coming from either sexuality. I think it shouldn't be "Public" Display of Affection, but "Private" Display of Affection. I never liked kissing my boyfriends around my friends, family, or peers. It was always done when we were alone. No difference, now. A quick peck on the lips, hand holding, hugging...no harm done. Gay Days is actually very harmless. I've seen more heterosexual PDA than homosexual. *shrug* I consider both to be 'normal', though.

Disney hasn't dedicated a day for Gays either. The fact is anyone can walk in the gate that wants to as long as they have a ticket. And at any time, any group, large or small, can set up a trip to all go together be it a close group or a loose association be it a singles group at church, pop warner, boy scouts, girl scounts, cheer leaders, promise keepers, a married couples group at church, etc, or even a large group such as a web site like Red State or FreeRepublic That's how the Gay Days word got around. A website. Then Two. Yet for some reason you're arguing when Gays do the same thing all these other groups do, they want something special.

On to my post. The fact is, heterosexual couples engage in that kind of stuff at the parks as often or more than homosexual couples. And I always read where people don't like when heterosexual couples do that either. Well that may be true but we never see any posts here other than mine in jest worrying about that. Why is that I wonder. It happens just as often. And people say they don't like it just as much. But there's never that question is there?
So either I must conclude that contrary to the claim, when Gays do it it really does bother more, or that there is an assumption that Gay's can't control themselves. And that's why I posted it. Not to accuse of prejudice. There certainly is that. But I can't change a closed mind and I don't try. I post it in the hope that read it and think of it from an angle they hadn't quite thought of before.

And perhaps when Gays can live where they want, work where they want, and walk down the street without being bothered, treated as second class citizens, or told they're going to hell, maybe Gay Days will fade away. Or maybe it won't. But those that organize it certainly have the right to organize a group trip just like any other group. Gays don't want anything special. All they want is all those little rights you and I have, and take for granted.

I find this very sad. You are entitled to spend your vacation any way you like, but to deny you and your family the joy of Disney because there might be some gay people engaging in PDAs is a real shame. I guarantee you that you will see PDAs from any number of couples at ANY attraction or park you visit. It's the nature of our society that a SMALL minority of people do not have enough class (or maturity) to keep it clean in public. The vast majority of people, both gay and straight, will be visiting Disney for the same reason as your family---to have fun. The vast majority of people will be well-mannered, friendly, and respectable.

I hope that you do visit WDW and have a fantastic time that results in many cherished memories.

Nobody said it was Disney-sanctioned. It doesn't matter who dedicates a day - just the fact that it is a designated day.

If a thousands of pop warner kids or people from one of those right-wing organizations come to the park on one specific day and a sizable portion of them are in tight short, shorts and making out on the public benches - I'd also avoid that day.

But to each his own.

So either I must conclude that contrary to the claim, when Gays do it it really does bother more, or that there is an assumption that Gay's can't control themselves. And that's why I posted it. Disney is not hosting Gay Days. It's a reunion in Orlando, so chances are if you are going that week you ARE going to end up crossing their path(shudders at the thought).

Hey, don't cancel your trip to the parks! WDW is the happiest place on earth!! We'll be there with our kids. Just focus on looking at the beautiful and exciting scenery, the rides, and the shows! I honestly can't remember a single face in the crowds in all the times I've been there. I'm always too busy looking at my map, my schedule, my kids or the attractions to notice all the other cattle in the herd. Also, keep in mind that Gay Days specify a specific park for each day. Here is the schedule:

Thursday May 31st: Gay Day at AK
Friday June 1st: Gay Day at MGM
Saturday June 2nd: Gay Day at MK
Sunday June 3rd: Gay Day at EP

Just pick a different park for those days. Those parks will be pretty crowded on those days anyway!

Honestly, you have a far better chance of seeing inappropriate PDAs between straight couples at WDW when there are large groups of teenagers present, than seeing something offensive at Gay Days. A couple of years ago, there was a cheerleader making out with a guy IN LINE AT ELECTRIC UMBRELLA. I'm 47 years old, I've seen my share of PDAs, but I have never seen anyone do what they were doing in public. Let's just say I hope he washed his hands before he ate his lunch.

No No. Really. i'm not prejudiced. It's just that we all know heterosexuals just cannot control themselves. Am I going to have a problem going on not Gay Days?
