We are locals, but finally decided yesterday to visit his impromptu memorial, under the bridge. I got some great photos.

It was very melancholy. You could feel the emotion in the air.

When we arrived, there were tourists under the bridge, adding their graffiti. DH took a photo of their group, and they were so greatful.

We are not huge Nirvana fans, but do enjoy their music and their distinct sound. And they are a big influence on the type of music my son listens to.

I took some photos - enjoy!

The new memorial, just released on 4/5/11 -

A flower that someone had put next to the bridge - I am guessing it was added on Tuesday -

I took 2 photos of my son and they came out amazing. In both - especially on - he looks incredibly deep in thought of the entire area that he is at. He grabbed some "Kurt Dirt" as he called it to add to his Nirvana collection.

Hope you enjoyed the pictures. I also got a photo of the plaque that is at the park, but it didn't turn out so good as the entire thing had a combination of "Kurt Dirt" and Chex Mix on it. Next time I will bring a bottle of water and rinse it off first, LOL.

Although I'm more of a Pearl Jam fan (32 concerts and counting :rotfl:) I do love Nirvana.

Thanks for posting those photos - I read somewhere about the memorial but never saw photos. Kurt was a unique and talented guy. Its a shame he ending things the way he did. Hard to believe it was 17 years ago :(

Nirvana was the first concert I went to when I was in 9th grade. My mom wouldn't let me go to NKOTB when I was younger but she let me go to Nirvana just a few short years later. :confused3

Thanks for the pics.

I wasn't much of a fun of Kurt Cobain when he was alive. I thought he screamed to much, basically. But after he passed away and found out he had a severe stomach problem, somewhat similar to what I've battled, I became more interesting in his music. Today kind of chuckle listening to some of his lyrics as he sometimes sings about his stomach woes. I'm not much for collecting signatures from celebrities, or sports figures, but he is one of the few that I searched out and bought. Have it on the wall at my home office.

I have a greater enjoyment of his music now also that I play the guitar. His songs can be fun to practice.

Nice pictures. It's sad that he wasn't able to solve his stomach problem, and live to have a happier life.

Glad you enjoyed them!

If my son still likes the music in 4 years as much as he does now, I am going to have him get his senior pictures taken under the bridge. The graffiti really makes for a beautiful backdrop of photos, and it would be something that is totally him! I would place bets that if I peeked through a local yearbook that it is not an uncommon thing for that background to be used.

My boyfriend is from Olympia and he moved into Cobain's old apartment and used to get his mail. Also, he saw them a ton of times before the got signed to a major label and and he's talked about how a lot of their pre-label fans thought they sold out when they made it big time. He has an interesting perspective on the whole 'grunge' debacle that happened once the major labels got a hold of the bands and sold the entire music movement into a commercial property. I saw Nirvana once with Pearl Jam but I never was a huge fan.

Very interesting -- thanks for sharing. I did like Nirvana -- at the time, we needed a change in rock music and Nirvana and Pearl Jam appealed to me very much. Such a shame Kurt Cobain was such a tortured soul (but it's those types that are often the best songwriters).
