As many of you know, I am quite challenged in the kitchen. I've been looking for some cute "fallish" looking snacks to take to my DS's classes on Tuesday. I found a mold with about 12 pumpkins in it. The "pan" is by Wilton, but it isn't a hard pan, it's orange and bendable..........sorry, don't know what it's called. Well it says on the instructions "great for gelatin". So I whipped up some orange Jello this morning, poured it in the molds, went to check it this evening and...............instead of popping out in little pumpkin shapes it popped out in blobs. Or didn't plop out at all and I was scraping the jello out of the mold.

Should I have used the jiggler recipe on the box?? That's all well and good, but that calls for GIANT batch (like 4 boxes at a time) and I just have one mold and can only make smaller batches at a time.

any suggestions, or should I just kick the mold to the curb and buy some brownie mix???

I'd go for the brownie mix.

Those flexible molds are pieces of work.

Did you use actually Jell-O, or "gelatin"? Gelatin will not hold as well (like the knock off store kind) in a mold pan for some reason.

Jello expert here!! Its a Scandinavian trait!

You cant use regular jello in that type of mold.

You have to either use the jiggler recipe or add a couple envelopes of Knox unflavored gelatin... the jiggler recipe may call for a lot of jello, but not much water so it wont make as much as you think... you could probably cut it in half if you want to.

AH HA!! See, they don't give proper instructions for non-bakers like me!! I had no idea I couldn't use regular Jello in that pan!! Who knew you had to doctor up a Jello recipe for molds!?!?

And yes, I did use real Jello, not off brand.

Oh well, sounds like I'm off to make boring old brownies, I only have 3 packs of Jello left and the back of the box says I need 4 packs to make Jigglers.............Pretty sad when a person can't even make Jello. :sad2:

You don't need 4 boxes to make jigglers, you can do it with 2. Just use 1 & 1/4 cups hot water to 2 boxes of jello.

I've been doing this since my DD, 20, was in 1st grade & will be doing it again tonight for DS, 9, 4th grade class.

Works great & the kids love the results!

I think what you have is a silicone baking pan. They suck. Dump it. Jello in any mold can be tricky to release and those things just make it worse. Do yourself a favor and don't try to do your brownies in it.

A little trick that helps with Jigglers is to spray a very light coating of vegetable spray (like Pam) in the pan, first.

Make Rice Crispie treats and press them into the molds. Pop them out when ready and decorate with icing. I did this one year for my dd and they were a huge success.

That's a good idea. Can you believe, I've never made Rice Krispie treats either?? My poor children are so neglected..... :rotfl:

It is a good idea... then sprinkle with colored sugar to get fall leaf colors!!

That is an excellent idea. Much easier to loosen rice krispie treats from those dang things

Easier and they taste better, too. Ummmm....

Would there be any way to dye the rice krispie treats orange?
Also, I imagine I would need a recipe for a small batch, since I only have 12 small pumpkin molds and will have to mold, then let them cool, then reuse the molds......... How long should I let them cool in the molds?

I guess I should retitle this to the Rice Krispie treats thread.......

You can add a few drops of orange food coloring to the melted marshmallows and stir real good before adding the cereal. Rice crispy treats need to cool and harden for a bit. You might want to go with 1/2 batches at time

Just add food coloring when the marshmallows and butter have melted. Then mix in the rice crispies.

You could add a few drops of food (red and yellow)coloring to the butter and marshmallow AFTER you melt it... to make it orange,
just throw em in the fridge for 20 mins or so , you could also half the recipe and just do 2 small batches... Good luck!

sounds great to tint the marshmellows orange.........If the molds fail I can always mold them into balls and call them pumpkins!! :rotfl: thanks for everyones help!
