Anybody watch House Hunters on HGTV?

Are you talking about Dream House where this couple with ONE child is building an 11,000 square foot custom home? She was pregnant when this show started; I think they just put an African mural for the two year old boy and it is still not done. DH keeps watching it but I can't stand this show.

And, Designer's Challenge...there was one that paid $35,000 for remodelling of the MASTER BATHROOM! This show is also not for the average home owner. I also have seen nicer finished rooms with Trading Spaces!

Yep, thats the one. It is still on? I'm not surprised it has taken this long. They probably had to go back to the bank for more money because lumber prices in the area have sharply increased in the past year.

I think it's so funny when they come in and start complaining about wall color or curtains. Have they never heard of Home Depot?

DH and I have been house hunting for over 3 months our list of 'needs' got cut short very quickly. LOL

I love watching that show. I hope to one day use what I have learned from that show if we buy a house. I wish they had it on more often.

It's actually on quite often - HGTV
http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/shows_hnt/0,,HGTV_3855,00.html

every weekday at 7:30pm and then then thursday nights from 10 - 11pm.

And honestly - I WISH my house was as nicely decorate 6 MONTHS after living in my new house as these houses are after 6 weeks! heheh

I'm a House Hunters fan too & having lived in CA, I can only imagine the prices of these homes. It does boggle the mind how much they cost & how a simple family of 4 can buy anything larger than an 800 sq ft house in a bad neighborhood!

I also laugh at the statement "oh, it has a window!" Like duh...a bedroom wouldn't have a window??

Someone had a question about do all men in CA have something to do with music? Well....almost everyone I knew were either 'into' music or desperately "trying" to get into music. Of course you have to remember, like Detroit & it's surrounding areas, most people have jobs that are somehow involved in the automotive industry. In the L.A. area, one of the biggest industries is entertainment so.....if they're not in it, they're trying to get in it in one way or another! :)

I'm also impressed at how they purchased a house at the 'high end' of their income capability but yet they have gutted the whole kitchen & purchased all new stainless steel appliances & have a commercial stove with 6 cook tops & granite counter tops & new slate flooring in their kitchen!! I think some of these people are getting money from their families. I too wish they'd share what the price of the home was.

I remember hearing years ago that the upper limit of house you should buy is 2 times your annual income. Well my house is about 2/3 of my annual income and I sure wouldn't want a payment any higher. I think lots of people go into MAJOR debt to buy their homes. That gamble works out fine when there is great appreciation, but in a down market you can really suffer.

The thing that bugs me to death about House Hunters is that they just pull a contract form out of the broker's car and sign it without reading it. I'm a real estate lawyer. DON'T DO THAT!

My DS (13) loves to watch Sensible Chic with me. That's the one where they start with a "designer room" that cost about $147,000 to decorate, and then they reproduce it a someone else's home for $3,000. The cheap room always ends up looking pretty darned close to the original. DS laughs and laughs about how stupid the people who paid the $147,000 must feel. (Yes, my DS watches HGTV with me. The guys in our household are very secure.)

Simplistic is an understatement!! It's more like a fairy tale!

I watch it and Double Agents, just for entertainment and to see the homes mostly. I check the area which is sometimes on the agents credentials in the credits at the end of the show.

It's always such a SHOCK as to which house they will choose, isn't it? And that call from the agent... such realism!!

Yes, TV is saving a BUNDLE not hiring actors!

I watch House Hunters when I get a chance. I too would like to know the prices of the houses. We live in Northern Virginia and most houses here are colonials and the houses in So. CA make me cringe. The windows are small, the rooms are small, the family rooms are small and most only have 1 bathroom! :earseek: The tile on the kitchen countertops is the worse. We had tile counter tops and they were hard to keep clean and we got rid of them. I do think that some of the reasons they don't want the house are petty, you can change the paint for heavens sake! I do wonder how they can get their house fixed up so nice in 6 months. We have been in our house for almost 2 years now and are just getting around to getting dining room furniture and new carpet. I wonder if the producers help them?
