Watched the show a couple of days ago and was surprised nobody was talking about it. There were some things I liked about the show and things I didn't.

I liked the self contained aspect of the show, watching one person from beginning to end.

I also liked that most of it was done at home.

The biggest thing I didn't like was the initial weigh-in. Taking her out to a freight scale for the initial weigh-in was uncalled for. When they said she was "too fat" for a bathroom scale I was expecting to see 500lbs + and it came back as 369lbs. I had to order it online by my scale goes up to 440.

I didn't like that it appeared the only real weight she lost in the last six months was the excess skin they cut off of her. It was clear that she was plateauing but I felt like there wasn't any support for her. She probably really needed some serious help breaking through that with new workout routines and techniques.

I saw all of the first episode and only half (so far) of the second. They both failed to reach their second goal after the trainer had left. Clearly they need more support.

What about offering them something like a gym membership? Working out at home and being self-motivated can be difficult, especially at first. How about Weight Watchers memberships? Learning a new way of healthy eating can take a long time!!

For the first episode, (girl.... name???)... sure, she looked pretty good at her finale, but I agree with the previous poster who said it appeared she only lost the weight associated with her skin removal surgery, since her previous weigh-in. 208 pounds is a great start.... but not a healthy weight/BMI for her yet. I did see her on Good Morning America the next day and she said something about losing another 20 pounds since her finale show.

This young man on this week's show (which I haven't finished yet), is really struggling with issues regarding the loss of his Mom. He needs some counseling to deal with both his grief and his weight. He was overweight before he lost his mom, so it isn't all from that. I'm anxious to see how this one ends. Hopefully I can watch the rest of it tonight. .............P

The show definately seems to be a "work in progress" for the trainer. He did things with Alex he didn't do with Rachael. In some ways, I like that sometimes "don't make their goals". That's reality, dealing with setbacks and learning how to deal with them. Like all of these show, I wonder how well they've been at keeping the weight off.

I've been watching the show, and there are some aspects that bother me about it. First, the two people so far don't really seem to take this as seriously as I would if I were in that position. No, I'm not the perfect candidate for something like this, but come on- the first girl wore makeup to her workout. Seriously? You have been handed the opportunity to work with a first-class trainer and you wear makeup to a workout, you clearly don't think you're gonna work out hard enough to sweat. Could not be more wrong. Maybe I'm harsh, but I don't think the people really understand the repercussions of what's happening to them.

I have really enjoyed watching the show though. I think the guy did SO well, and I cried at the end!

Like a previous poster, I like the aspect of following one person but the skin removal as part of the process just doesn't sit well with me. Your average person losing weight, especially that much weight doesn't get to remove the excess skin.

I do like that its over a year instead of the 6 weeks or so the BL contestants have on the ranch.

An interesting concept though.

I agree with the poster that said the boy needed grief counseling to help with the loss of his mother. I feel like part of this whole process for these people should be counseling to understand the reasons they feel they need to eat for comfort and deal with those issues. I know once I faced my triggers I really started to be serious about diet and exercise. I am as of today a size 10 down from a 16 because I changed inside and that helped me change the outside!

It's a good concept but I think they need to take it further.

thought I'd revive this thread for a moment. I saw they are casting for EM :WLE 3 now so we should be seeing the outcome in about a year...
