Anybody Use This?

Here's the Mickey one I have. Since I don't know where mine is at the moment, I borrowed some pictures from ebay.

Yup, we used them in high school.

I got lucky; we used them freshman year, but by the following year the school district had decided that calculators were NOT cheating, and decided we could use them.

My dad, who was a cabinetmaker, had a beautiful one that he made himself. The center slide was inlaid with exotic woods.

I've heard of them, but never seen one in person. Must have been right before my time.

I have heard of those, but I have never used one. In fact, I don't think I have ever seen one in person either.

In college we were required to have a slide rule. I've kept mine for 49years since I graduated. It was an engineering college.

MY DH has one, also 49 years since college..

My DH is an engineer so it wouldn’t surprise me if he used one

I think I used one that belonged to my high school for Trig back in the day, but I don't own one.

Wow, lucky, I knew of these things but all was forbidden, I remember when calculators and devices of any kind were cheating and could get you expelled. In HS we would be instructed to take out the calculator for particular tasks but I was so bad at using it I would default to manual whenever possible clear through college.

I have never used one, though I’ve tried to play with my uncle’s a little. I’m an engineer but calculators were the standard by my time.

yep me either. After Algebra I took business math which has been way more useful to me over the years.

Sure, in high school. The HP calculator had just come out, but cost almost $1000, so we learned the slide rule. After all, they got us to the moon.

We didn't get to the moon on the slide rule, we used rockets.

And we got there thanks to solid television programming, not these reality shows like we have today.

This is me completely. Nobody had this in our schools. We had the Calculator. I'm sure when the Calculator came along the slide rule people were complaining about "these new fangled gadgets".

We had scientific/graphing calculators by the time I was in high school, but the desks in the classroom had a laminate with the tables on them.

No, never had the pleasure. I had a calculator with a gazillion different buttons instead.

Sure, I used one in both high school and college for trigonometry, calculus, physics, and chemistry.

I probably haven't touched mine since 1982 and have no idea what happened to it.

I used one in high school. My DH had one that was in a belt holder so it was always ready to go. Yes he was a geek being a physics major. I found it when I was cleaning out the house and I now have it. I just need to remember how to use it.

This reminds me, in the movie "Apollo 13", after the catastrophe, you see all the engineers in the NASA center in Houston working frantically on their slide rules.
