MY DH has one, also 49 years since college..In college we were required to have a slide rule. I've kept mine for 49years since I graduated. It was an engineering college.
yep me either. After Algebra I took business math which has been way more useful to me over the years.I did not use one, did not do trig.
We didn't get to the moon on the slide rule, we used rockets.Sure, in high school. The HP calculator had just come out, but cost almost $1000, so we learned the slide rule. After all, they got us to the moon.
This is me completely. Nobody had this in our schools. We had the Calculator. I'm sure when the Calculator came along the slide rule people were complaining about "these new fangled gadgets".I have heard of those, but I have never used one. In fact, I don't think I have ever seen one in person either.
This reminds me, in the movie "Apollo 13", after the catastrophe, you see all the engineers in the NASA center in Houston working frantically on their slide rules.We didn't get to the moon on the slide rule, we used rockets.
And we got there thanks to solid television programming, not these reality shows like we have today.
