Anybody use these packing cubes? Do they hold a lot? I was thinking about getting a couple of sets to keep our luggage organized, especially now that we use rolling duffles.

I've never understood how these things can help. Now instead of stuff that you can fit into little spaces here and there in a suitcase, you've got these larger blocks that take up space themselves.

I bought them last year but never intended to keep shirts or shorts in them. I put my socks in one, and lingerie in the others. Keeps those smaller items together and in one place. Instead of shuffling clothes around looking for them, I just pull those cubes out and no more fumbling in suitcases for socks and undies.
:flower3:

I use the smaller ones for socks and underwear. It makes it easier to unpack when I reach my destination. I also use one for my camera charger/cell phone charger/iPod charger/etc. I don't use the larger size ones for shirts, etc.

OK, I understand the part about keeping a bunch of small stuff together. But wouldn't a large zip-lock bag do just as well for much less $$?

The advantage of the bags is that you can compress all the air out and have more room.

I went to Europe for 10 days with just a carry on and large purse.

I've read about feats like this. I thought it was a myth. See http://www.onebag.com/

I'm an over packer. Got to be prepared. I've finally realized that it's not a character flaw. Still, I have these strange dreams. Maybe, one day...

I'm not an expert. See my prior post. But,...

A packing cube is useful in a couple of ways. First, it helps you allocate space. (I suppose you could just use smaller ziplocs.) Second, it makes a good center piece if you're bundle packing. Basically, rectangular and no sharp corners. (Bundling is a way to get the most stuff with the fewest wrinkles and creases into your bag.)

LOL!

I was flying over there by myself to meet up with DH. I didn't want to take the chance of my luggage not making it nor did I have anyone to help me lug it around. side bar: hmmm...lug...luggage...that's why it's called luggage - 'cause you lug it around? Now back to our regularly scheduled program:

After pulling my Rick Steves' rolling carry-on up and down stairs in the tube and all over London, I am SO GLAD I had just the minimum! There is NO WAY I could have done more. I would have left stuff behind for the cleaning people!

Now, when we're traveling by car and I have a whole van's worth of room, it's an ENTIRELY different story!

Actually, the packing cubes are pretty affordable...I think it's like $15-$20 for 3 large sized. I usually do pack with ziplocks but it's kind of annoying lately always putting everything in those bags before we go away. Plus everything has to be packed JUST right so it won't wrinkle.

Anyway, thanks for the responses...I might just get a couple of sets and see what they're like. They get rave reviews so hopefully I'll like them too. :)
