I have a coupon for them and just wondered what the average charge for about a 1600 sf house is? I used an individual a few years back but I do not know where she is anymore and don't know much about the privately owned cleaning services here in town. I know Merry Maids has a pretty good reputation so I am thinking of trying them.

It was a lot, my house was 1900 sq.ft. and I think I paid $120. So not worth it.

They showed up really early, I had a todder and an infant......toddler was in the bathtub, then I had to take a shower......they never did clean that tub.

Ask friends, neighbors, co-workers for suggestions.

I just paid $300 for my Dad's old house in Central NJ. There hadn't been a woman's presence in the home for 5 years since my Mom went into a nursing home. They did a good job. It was empty and ready for the sale walk thru, so I wanted it to shine.
I used a coupon from the phone book.

since it had been so long. I keep a pretty clean house and would think after the initial visit, mine would not be so much. I am just tired of doing all the housework and having "discussions" with Hubby about it so I decided to try a service.

I paid $106 with taxes. The same job was never done twice, and the same cleaners never came. I fired them and hired someone that was referred and I pay her $70 per visit. We have a 2700 sq ft home.

I tend to agree with the other posters...we tried MM once, and for the price we paid it wasn't worth it. We looked around and found someone who advertised at the supermarket on the bulletin board, and they've been doing our house now for 2 years. They charge $65 to clean my 3 bed, 2.5 bath. Also, perhaps you can try to ask around for a local referral. I'm not saying that MM is bad, in fact in your area they may be fine, however I like to have the same person clean my house all the time, not a service that sends different people. I'd worry too much.
