Been trying the gum to see if it will help fight off a cold.

Anyone found this stuff to work?

I have tried it. It works about as good as anything out there, which is to say probably not very well.

As far as it keeping away an oncoming cold, sorry. They come when they want and they leave when they want. At least that's been my experience.

Never tried that but I have tried Airborne and it seems to work! At the first sign of cold-related pain (for me - headache, neck ache, pain between my eyes, etc.) I drop one of those in a glass of water and drink up when it stops fizzing. Did it twice last week at Disney when I felt a cold coming on and nothing came. Give them a try!

No scientific proof, but it does seem to me that if I take some cold-eez lozenges, the colds I get don't seem to be as severe.

I have used Cold-Eeze but it dried out my mouth and made my tongue sore. What I like better is Zicam. They make swabs that you wipe inside your nose (gross, but it works).

This works for me. It does dry out the inside of your nose, but at least my tongue doesn't go raw sucking on zinc! If I start this at the beginning of my cold, I find that my cold rarely develops into something full-blown. I guess it's predicated on the idea that the cold virus replicates in your nose. Use it exactly as directed to work (e.g., you can't blow your nose for 30 seconds after you use it).

Zicam also makes a mist that you spray inside your mouth, but it gives me the same icky feeling of sucking on zinc tabs.

Good luck and stay healthy!

I use the zinc lozenges from Target and I am sure they keep my cold from getting bad and staying around awhile. That and extra Vitamin C.

My impression of Cold-eez is that it does help, but only if you take it at the first sign of a cold.

we are big believers of Cold Eeze. If either one of us feels a cold coming on, we both start taking them, a few a day and that has stopped a cold in its track more than once. If I do get a cold, continuing with them seems to shorten the length and severity. The new honey-lemon flavor has much less of an aftertaste than the other flavors. I just wish I could get DD to take them too, but she doesn't like any kind of candy or gum (except chocolate!)

I have had luck with cold eeze. I find that when I use them, my colds usually last only a couple of days. It works best when you take them at the first sign of a cold.

I used to use Cold-Eeze but switched to Zicam. I think it works better but you have to get it right away.

Minced raw garlic does the trick for me. (I use the minced garlic in a jar) At the first sign of a cold, take a heaping spoon of it. Follow with a swig of good OJ. I think that the OJ enhances the effect, perhaps the acid allows for better absorption? It has never failed me....and I have low cholesterol too!

My kids think I own stock in Cold-Eeeze because I'm always telling them to get these when they feel a cold coming on. I have found them to be very helpful but you must start taking them as soon as you feel you are getting a cold. I feel they shorten the time you might have with a cold.
