Anybody stay at BC or BWI and use monorail to get from MK to Epcot & then walk home?

Just wondering if this would be more convenient than the busses? We are thinking of ease of not having to break down a stroller if our infant is sleeping. What is the bus situation like from MK to Beach Club/ Boardwalk area? Thanks.

Hi, yes we have done it several times. We just plan our day so that we end it in EPCOT. We don't like to deal with the buses at MK park closing, so we just don't stay until closing. We do just as you asked about - take the monorail to EPCOT & spend a bit of time there, and go through the international gateway and hope for a boat!! You can take the boats without having to close your stroller. The walk to BC or BWI isn't bad, either, but sometimes the kids are too tired to hoof it.

We just don't like the buses too much. They are usually pretty crowded and make a bunch of different stops for those EPCOT resorts. We are a monorail family!! :earboy2:

Have fun!

It's a lot of walking to do that. You might be better off taking the bus to MGM (usually less crowded) and then taking the boat from there.

remember the monorail drops you off in the front of Epcot and then you have to walk all the way back to World Showcase.

Also MK tends to close after Epcot. I am not sure how late they let you walk thru.

We stayed at both BWI and YC and we've done it too but mostly because I hate having DS's wheelchair loaded onto a bus later at night. They are so full and people are tired so the tendency for people to be impatient seems greater to us. This way is less stressful at the end of the day. It is like others have said a long walk but I love walking. Generally DS is the only kid with us though. We aren't big lovers of Disneys bus system either. We usually end our days in World Showcase though as DS is usually in the mood for more passive activity as the day wears on so it works for us.

You also need to remember that if you don't have hopper passes you'll be using up a day at Epcot if you do this!

I don't think you could call this travel plan convenient. If you consider the time it takes to catch the monorail at MK, transfer to Epcot's monorail at TTC, and then a 20 - 30 minute walk ( depending on how fast you're walking ) from the front of Epcot to the BC, it will be a pretty long trip. It's doable, and as others have said, if you're planning to spend time in Epcot anyway, it makes sense. But if you're only looking to get back to the Boardwalk area, the busses will be your best bet, IMO.

this is obviously not the most common answer ... but we do that most everytime. it is just too much of a pain to collapse the strollers and get on the bus. so for the past few years that has been our way of doing it. that's why we hate going to AK ... because the only way to get there is the bus.

Thanks everyone! I guess we'll have to assess the situation when we get there. So I guess you can walk AROUND Epcot to get to BC and not have to go through Int'l Gateway. I hope so.

No, you DO have to walk through Epcot to get to the BC from the front entrance. You can't walk around it. You'll need to enter the park with a ticket and walk through Future World into World Showcase and exit via the International Gateway to the BC.

Hope this is clear!

Maybe if once you got to Epcot, you sat down and had a meal (even a snack or something), it might re-energize you to walk the rest of the way. Just a thought.

Maybe we're idiots, but my wife and I preferred doing it this way when we stayed at the Swan a couple of years ago. And that was dragging a 3 year old and a 1 year old! Now that I think back on it, it is pretty convoluted - Monorail to TTC, switch to Monorail to Epcot, walk through Epcot, boat to the Swan. We even did it once in the pouring down rain.

But, on the flipside - it was really fun! It's an excuse to ride the monorail (and do we really need an excuse?) - and we literally ran through a nearly empty Epcot in ponchos in the pouring rain before catching the boat the rest of the way laughing (like idiots) the entire way. To this day it's one of my (now) 5 year old's favorite Disney memories.

We do this every time we go. We have even gotten to EPCOT after 9pm...closing time, and they have let us walk through because we had our room keys. They even let my DH through without his room key! :cool1:

We have taken DD since she was 7 months old, and with a stroller and a sleeping baby, the monorail and walk allows her to continue her nap even if we didn't quite make it back to our room in time! We have walked back to the YC, BC, Swan, and BWI! :)

We do it too. You might want to consider going to studios though. After Hoop-dee-doo we took the bus to studios and lucky us - there was an Epcot double stroller there - we figured we did them a favor by loading our boys up and pushing it at least to the Boardwalk. :) Kind of wondered if they don't just leave a few there for that purpose??

That is a really LONG walk. In the time it would take to wait for a bus from the MK and arrive back at the BC or BWI you would still be walking or on the monorail. Please do not underestimate how long it actually is. You will also have to switch monorails as well. I see no harm in doing it if you plan on browsing or Touring Epcot on your way back, but if you are just doing it to go back to your room it will be exhausting.

My DH and I love to walk so that became our preferred route between the MK and our room at YC. Some times we took the ferry from the MK to the TTC instead of the monorail (just for variety), then the monorail to Epcot, then walked through FW to the WS, out the IG and on to YC. It is a bit of a trek, but we really enjoyed being able to walk a good part of the way "home" at the end of the day. And, as stated by others, the boat and the monorail are more fun than taking the bus. Just make sure you have park hopping tickets (or an AP) if you plan to do this since you will be passing through Epcot on your way to/from the MK.

We do it a lot as well. The walk is long, but nice. We rent strollers, so we don't have the "don't fold up" excuse. We just don't really like the buses, but like the monorail. We stretch it out and take an hour to get back or longer - stopping to ride Imagination or Spaceship Earth

As was pointed out before but is worth mentioning again - you do need to go through Epcot - so you will need a hopper. Its really bad to be at the front gate of Epcot and need to go to the Epcot area resorts without going through the park, as there are no buses from the front of Epcot.

Quesstion

Mk closes at 11pm
can you still do monorail to epcot and walk through to international gateway

Walking Epcot at night after crowds is awesome

We do this too. Admittedly we have always had unlimited access tickets so we don't use a day :earsgirl: up walking through. It is nice to stroll back "home" to our BCVilla and chat about the day!
