Anybody Remember These Old Safety Cartoons?

I'm not sure if this is the right board to post this on. But I know that somebody out there can help me. When I went to elementary school, in the mid to late 70's, they used to show these safety cartoons hosted by Jimminy Cricket(sp?). There were these two stick boys, one was good and the other bad, and they taught stuff like diving safety. The bad kid diving into water that hides rocks just beneath the surface while the good one dives in know safe areas. Basic stuff like that. It was mostly black and white and this hand and pencil would (or maybe just pencil) pop up every once in a while and draw stuff. And it had this catchy theme, something like... I'm no fool, no sir-EE! I'm gonna live to be a hundred and three... I know this may sound strange but somebody else may remember this and what it was called.

I'll play safe for you and me 'cause I'm no fool

I remember watching them in elementary school. Not sure what they were called, but I loved them!!

My goodness, I hadn't thought about those cartoons in probably 20 years!

I was in elementary school in the late 70s but I don't remember seeing those cartoons in school; seems like they were on reruns of the Mickey Mouse Club, maybe?

I vaguely remember the one about bicycle safety. Funny I don't remember much about the cartoons themselves, but I will probably be able to sing the song till the day I die--that's catchy Disney music for ya!

I think this one was a Terrytoons as opposed to a Disney cartoon. I'm not sure whether it was to promote the war (WWII) effort or satirize it. The cartoon showed all the farm animals contributing to the war supplies drive by producing and giving up eggs, fleece, milk, etc. in production line fashion. There was a catchy tune repeated through the cartoon with different words for each of the scenes with the different animals.

(Not a safety related cartoon)

Disney hints:

"It will be a great day when the schools have all the money they need and the Defense Department holds bake sales to buy a bomber"

Thanks, but what you describe must be something else. These cartoons had nothing to do with war. They taught kids how to play safely. That I clearly remember.

I found this on the Disney website under Jiminy Cricket Filmography

"I'm No Fool Series" (for "The Mickey Mouse Club") 1950s

I guess when we were watching them they were already about 20 years old. I just remember them being on the old film projectors.

Here is even more info I found. There were more than I realized, but reading through the names, I think I've seen most of them.

The "I'm No Fool ..." series was a short series of educational shorts produced for the original "Mickey Mouse Club" back in the mid-fifties. Most featured Jiminy Cricket and each one centered on safety in regular human life. They were all relased as 16mm films to schools later. Some were updated in the late 80's; it is unsure whether the current showings on "The Ink and Paint Club" are the original shorts or the 80's updates.

Thanks slp87! I'm gonna check out the link you posted. It sounds just like what I remember.

Thanks again slp87. I appreciate that you took the time to find that information. Usually I'd do that myself before posting, but I just never made the effort on this one. What you found was exactly what I was thinking of. I wonder if they still show them in school?

I'm a teacher and I haven't seem them around. Of course everything is on video now. When I checked google I saw some educational service centers that carried them and some that were for sale. I didn't investigate to see if they were indeed now on video.

Oh my goodness, I remember those growing up. Now I can't get that song out of my head.

Mybe they should start showing those to kids again. Maybe with a little updating that is. If it stuck in our head, it will stick to theirs.
