Anybody NOT like POFQ?

POFQ is a nice resort but my family and I didn't really care for theme, the shared transportation and lack of sit down restaurant. The buses can be extremely crowded at times leaving the parks. POFQ is first to be picked up and dropped off but that doesn't help when leaving the parks. Everyone lines up in the same queue.

We use to love it because of it's size but after issues with the busses during June and early December of '06, we are no longer willing to stay there. Our problems had more to do with the sharing with Riverside. These problems might not exist for you depending on the season.

I won't say that I do not like POFQ, but I do find it to be my least favorite of the 4 moderate resorts. I think the theme was a good idea not really well executed. The city streets layout is fun enough but the buildings remind me more of a motel than the other moderates.Aside from variances in the landscaping, everywhere you go it all looks the same. I am not fond of Disney using warehouses as thememing and the food court is a warehouse with oversize props hanging in there. It is pretty enough but I find the other 3 moderates more beautiful.

I agree with the above post. I just think that the other moderates have more to offer. I was just overall dissapointed in the food court and the gift shop. I think that this is the only disney resort that I've stayed in that did not have a "disney" feel to it. There are alot of people who swear by this resort so I thought I would give it a try. We also had a negative experience at this resort so that might of added to it.

OP here.

We're actually already booked there for June 11-15 - just 3 women travelling together this trip. I've already done POR, and liked it but thought it was too big and spread out. Already did CBR and liked it alot, but the pool is going to be down. Not really into the theming of CSR.

Anyway, I had read alot of good things about POFQ, but figured there must be some naysayers out there. That's why I asked.

DW and I have stayed at the POFQ and found it to be missing something. We didn't get that same feeling like we did at the other resorts. We're giving POR a try this April. From what I've read on the posts here, it sounds like a better choice.

We stayed there Aug. 2007 for the first time. We really wanted to like it. We like many things about this resort except the room. We were in building 1, 3rd floor. It was not clean. Trash laying on the rug in the corner of the room out in the open (there was anything in front of the trash, so it was hard to miss it). Chocolate stain on the chairs and wall. A bad smell coming out of the air conditioner, but it you weren't near the unit it wasn't that bad. The bathroom floor was grey instead of white. And the area of the tub there was a lot of dust in the corners and on things like the toilet paper holder. And I hated the curtain. I just didn't want to touch it after seeing the rest of the room. And the beds had the mattress pad exposed under the pillows when you pull back the covers about 8 inches.

Yes, we did talk to the front desk to get the room cleaned. It improved but not enough to stay there again. Plus the room was too small for us. We were only there for 3 nights before our cruise, and not in the room at all. (Didn't want to be in there.) Went to the Poly after the cruise, where it was such a difference in the condition of the room. You know it is a difference when the kids noticed it enough to comment on it.

I hope you better luck and have an enjoyable stay.

We stayed at POFQ last May. We were very excited to stay there as we had heard good things about it. I have to say, this was the first time we were ever disappointed in anything Disney.

We didn't hate the place, but we will not be going back. Hard to explain. It was just "lacking" something. Or maybe many things. The rooms were a bit dark and gloomy. I think it was the dark wood on the furniture. The food court was really lacking in size and choices. And the service at the food court was awful. The grounds were very pretty, but just boring. There was nothing to see there really. We had previously stayed at CBR and loved to walk around the beautiful white sand beaches, the bridge, the island, and just take in the whole atmosphere. At POFQ there were some street signs and a river and that was about it! Very small. Housekeeping was just so-so.

The whole place just really lacked the Disney magic.

The buses weren't too much of an issue for us. After the first ride we knew to add on an extra 15-20 minutes to the ride time because of the 4 stops at POR.

What was nice about POFQ ~ Well you really can't be put in a bad building. Everything is close to everything. The bus stop is conveniently located. And the pool is very awesome!

It wasn't a horrible experience or anything, we sure didn't let is ruin our vacation. We just didn't care for it much.

I loved POFQ when we stayed there, POR looked great too. With the rate increases this year we had to book ASMU for this November and its got me a little bummed that I cant do POFQ. I am hoping a code or FL Resident deal comes my way so I can upgrade.

I agree. It "lacks something." I just wasn't impressed by anything there. Didn't hate it either, but had no "wow" moments.

I wouldn't write off CSR. I wasn't into the theming either, and was kind of bummed when we found out that's where we'd be staying on a free trip, as shallow as that is. However, when we got there, we loved it. Sure, we had to walk a bit, but the resort is beautiful, relaxing, and when we were there, it was VERY quiet. We didn't even get into the side of the resort I was hoping for (near the big pool...) and I would stay there again and again. We stayed at CBR a few months later and were back to the "eh" factor again.

we were booked for 3 weeks there a few years ago, and stayed only a few days, and checked out and moved to the all stars, where we had a great stay.

The rooms were fine, nothing wrong there, but we found the food court to be a nightmare, the staff were the rudest we have ever encountered on property, the pool small and the slide disappointing for an 8/9 year old and the bus service frustrating.

Would I say to someone not to stay there, of course not, it was our experience, and not necessarily the same as they would find, but would be go back? nope.

Interesting what appeals to some and not others. :)

I very much like FQ, but do not like the food court at all - although my experience with the CM's the 3 times we stayed there is that they were exceptionally nice.

Understand the darkness of the rooms with dark furniture, which makes my room location more important. Need lots of light (due to a medical issue), so must request an upper floor room. So far, it's been great.

We did not have great housekeeping, but that was taken care of and was fine after the room was initially cleaned. Our housekeeper was as sweet as could be - made the cutest towels animals and left us several each day ( no time for cleaning , thank goodness we are neat as can be;) ), but she was darling.:thumbsup2

We find the resort very pretty other than the food court and pool.

Hope you enjoy your stay!

I have to agree with everyone who did not hate POFQ but who also were not entirely impressed. I stayed there in October and found it to be a nice, pleasant resort. I had no problems with the room, transportation or food court. But I had trouble overlooking the fact that the theme was not carried out very well.

Perhaps the problem is that the first Disney resort I stayed at was AKL where the theming really knocks you over. But at POFQ, the theming is so weak that it never really feels like you're in New Orleans. The streets in the courtyards sort of give a hint of the way that streets are laid out in New Orleans. The things hanging from the ceiling in the food court sort of give a hint of Mardi Gras. The wrought iron railings sort of resemble those in New Orleans. But nothing there really seems to provide more than a very subtle hint of the French Quarter. I don't expect a resort to be 100 percent true to its theme, but at POFQ it felt like I was in a generic Disney resort.

I think one of the issues with POFQ is that, even though the buildings all look the same where ever you go, the trees have grown so large that they, and the azaleas and shrubs all seem to cover the buildings.
This resort would have been better as a deluxe with interior corridors and winding streets and wrought iron balconies for everyone. It would have been more realistic and fun.

No, I love POFQ.
There will always be someone who will dislike any resort.
Is this thread just created as a put down for POFQ?
How can that be very helpful?

POFQ would be my last choice for a moderate, but I would stay there if the other 3 were full and I wanted a moderate.

Last choice because:
I don't like the food court, it isn't a pleasant atmosphere IMHO
the pool slide is best for little kids IMHO and mine are older
no boat rentals
gift shop is blah

:)

We have stayed at POR 4 times now and we love it. On our last trip we made an emergency stop at POFQ because there was a storm coming and we all had to get off the boat.
I thought it was cute at first, until we reached the main building. The decor is not my taste at all, I just thought the huge faces were creepy. The food court was tiny and it had a tiny bar as well. I know its a small resort, but I much prefer POR, its so much prettier.
