They look to be dogs of all sizes and aren't wearing any assist dog type vests. No big deal, just curious. Want to make sure our dogs are not missing out : )

I have never seen dogs in the parks on any of our trips. :confused3 Do you mean in DL and CA themselves or in the areas between the two parks? I think you access the kennels from there. As for within the parks I don't know. Maybe assistance dogs do not need to wear something to identify themselves as assistance dogs.

I am a local and go to DL at least once a week. Lately there has been quite a few dogs in the parks themselves. Even small dogs. Saw a small one last week going on Alice in Wonderland. Have heard several people in the crowds commenting on it as well. Asked a cast member Sunday about it and he said he has noticed it to but doesn't know why. We don't care as we are dog lovers. Just kinda curious.

We noticed the same thing the last week of January. Saw 4 different ones over 6 days in the parks. Plus we had one on our plane ride there (for sight)and one on our plane ride home. My DD3 was rather amused :goodvibes at the little one waiting in line to ride Peter Pan with her owner!

Other than vested dogs, I have never seen one in the park. Lots of cats though.

I've not seen many dogs inside the parks. Once in awhile an assist dog but rather rare. I do see a few each day walking to/from the kennels which are located next to the Disneyland gates.

My dogs have ridden the parking tram and stayed at the kennels.

I hope it doesn't become a trend. I'm afraid of dogs.

Have always seen the assist dogs (mostly med. to large size) usually wearing vests and such. Also, we do see the mouse control cats (sorry Mickey!) all the time. But for whatever reason, there has been quite an increase lately of small dogs in the park.

Since I don't think they should be in the park (except for assistance dogs and those in training to be assistance dogs) it's likely people feeling their precious pooches should go with them everywhere and sneaking them in. I've seen this more in stores and malls as well. I really hope if CMs see them, they are asking them to leave.

I haven't been to DL in a long time, but I never recall seeing any dogs there.

I do remember seeing lots of mice (and poison) outside of the Casey Jr. ride in the flower beds though.

I totally agree. If they aren't helper dogs they don't belong in the park. Just because your dog fits in your purse doesn't make it ok to take it places that don't allow dogs.

A lot of small dogs are also trained assistance dogs that deal with a variety of issues, but I do think that some people are starting to realize that you can just CLAIM your dog is an assistance dog and there is no real way for it to be challenged and then they just take them everywhere.

I have no problem with assistance dogs. They are doing their job. It gives the person freedom. Assistance dogs do have credentials. They also have special jackets or a harness that IDENTIFY their type of assistance.

Pets in general in the parks no. They have no need to be there.
There are rules and I hope Disney steps up and begins to enforce it.

I am a dog lover too. But pets or dog in the park, NO! leave them home or kennel them and follow the rules.

They have to be identified as assistance dogs.

We raise service dogs for a non-profit. (Team Disney even raise one for our org, was really fun to see.) My daughter also has a hearing dog. It is common to see us in the park.

BTW - We are raising our 8th pup for Canine Companions for Independence. Our first pup is with a woman who has CP. Pup #2 works in an elderly care facility. Pup 3 decided service work was not for him, and is now a "model" (yes, a model!) Pup number 4 (blonde pup above) works as a facility dog at a school for orthopaedically challenged children. Many are recovering from severe burns or have other disabilities and she is part of their physically therapy. Pup number 5 works with a woman in a wheelchair, he pulls her among his other tasks. Pup number 6 is a hearing dog. Pup number 7 opted to leave service work and came home to live with us. Pup #8 is a fiesty little girl who as soon as her work clothes come on, becomes a little working machine!

Disney supports Canine Companions, and backstage recycling is donated to the cause, with Pluto often coming to a graduation with a check for the cause. They have raised at least 1 dog (I think there have been 2.) Disneyland is a great place for training these dogs.

Mal, cute photos!!!! I commend you for your work with service animals!! :)

Service dogs at DLR are fine, pets are not. PLEASE leave your pets at home or kennel or board them. We love dogs but not everyone does, and NO ONE likes to find a "gift" your pup may have left behind! :( IMO service dogs should be required to have proof of service, now anyone can say "this is my service dog" and they are allowed to take the dog anywhere. I do not approve of that practice. One trip we saw a lady pushing an odd green stroller, I was curious because it was lime green, I wondered if she was a Diser, I looked a bit closer and she was pushing her DOG in the stroller........ummmmmm wha????

We know the lady with the stroller well, she is a regular, adn the dog is NOT well behaved.

The laws that went into effect in Feb 2011 are meant to handle this situation. Personally, I wish there was a mandated certification. We have encountered problems at the parks with other dogs barking at our dogs, lunging at our pups, and in one case, pulling the owner to where the owner lost their balance. There are people on here who have met us, and know what we expect from our dogs before we enter the park. People may think "Hey, it would be fun to take our dogs in the park" but rarely do they realize the work involved. Our dogs are well trained, to the extent they even potty on command. Until we have this down, we don't go to the park. From the dogs perspective, the park can be a very scary place. Think about big, weird creatures appearing, little kids everywhere, people grabbing you, crowds, etc... It is very similar to taking a 2yo to the park, sans stroller. It is a LOT of work.

Love the photos.

I have seen a marked increase of dogs at WDW and DL in the last couple of years. I think the reason is two fold, companion/assistance dogs have grown in all areas of special needs and some people do take advantage of the system.

My beef is with the people who put dogs (clearly not the dog in the above photos) on rides that the animal is obviously uncomfortable.

I saw this quite a few times while in WDW in December. There was one poor dog in particular that we encountered several times. It was a beautiful, huge, full breed collie. Probably one of the largest I have ever seen. Poor thing was being stuffed on to ride vehicles, clearly unhappy. We were waiting to board Buzz behind the lady with the dog. She was pushing him in and he was trying to hop out. All the time she was telling everyone within earshot that it was his favorite ride. :lmao:
