We're in the market for one. We have an old Epson b&W and a newer Canon Color. The Canon eats ink and never warns you when you are about to run out.

Any recommendations out there?

I'd recommend staying away from Lexmark. With all printers, it's the ink that's expensive. With my old Lexmark, I put a new cartridge in, and within a day, it would tell me I needed a new one. After that happened twice (and hearing it happened to a couple of friends, too), I decided I would never get a Lexmark again.

Now I have an HP all-in-one (scanner, copier, printer). Works great, and isn't too bad on the ink.

I have this Dell at work and really like it.

Incidentally, I have a Lexmark All-in-One at home that I hate!

I looove my Canon Pixma MP780. It's an all-in-one and pricy, but it only sips ink, I spend much less on ink that with our old Epson :thumbsup2 .

The best printer I have had so far has been the $40 HP that I got at Walmart. It came with 2 extra ink cartridges, so the printer was actually free :teeth: . It has the best print quality. I have a Dell all-in-one that is very handy for scanning, faxing, etc. but if I need something to look really nice, I use the old HP.

i have the hp photosmart 2610 4 in one. it has the cute little screen that lifts up, and lots of features i will never use, plus it takes any dig cam mem stick in the side of it. it is a slow ink eater and gives awesome prints on everything.
had a lexmark b4 and HATED it.

Lexmark (they make the "Dell" ones) lasted about a year after not working a few times.

HP lasted about two and there were a few times it would just "stall." Plugging and unplugging worked until it died.

:thumbsup2 The Canaon PIXMA MP500 is a dream. Works very quick, hasn't stalled or broken. I love it!

First thing you need to decide is what the printer will be used for.

Well, we mainly use it for just printing out letters, mapquests and documents at home. We have two computers that network, so that feature would be good, too.

We don't have a digital camera yet, so we're not looking to print photos out of it.

If no photo needs, I would suggest a laser, better quality, much lower consumables costs. I have had wonderful success with Brother multifunction lasers over the past years, great features, dependable, well priced. If you have Costco, a great, newer model here..........

I do have an HP photo printer for minimal photo and/or color printing needs.

We have a Brother laser printer that we made wireless (I always call it our Brother Bear). I LOVE IT! It's black and white and we get a couple thousand pages before we need to buy more ink. It's wonderful! And the ink doesn't dry out which is also a plus. It prints really fast too.
