Anybody got any good delivery room stories??

With 1st daughter I had just gone for 5 sonograms (the Dr's were worried about her size and due date). I was due in 5 weeks when I went into labor. Well due to just having completed the sonograms and having just seen the Dr the day before, everyone thought it was false labor so they said come to the office around noon when we open.

I didn't have anything ready for the hosptal, so decided a trip to the store was in order. Armed with my list my husband and I walked around getting what we needed (or so the hospital said, LOL!). When my contractions were between 2 and 3 minutes apart we felt it was time to head to the check out. At the check out line line the cashier asked with a big smile, "So when are you due?". At that point a contraction started and my husband casually says "Any minute." I never saw anyone throw things in a bag so fast. Off to the Dr's office we go.

We get to the office and go right into the exam room. The nurse looks and says "Holy " " the head is right here. She then screams to the Dr "Joe get in here the baby is coming". He looks from the doorway and says"Lets go!". We all pile into our cars and head to the hospital. twenty minutes later my daughter came into the world.

Now it was time to call our parents. It is hard to get people to take you seriously on April 1st, especially when you are 5 weeks early!

DD#1 the epidural didn't 'take' (it just numbed her back a little) and before they would try again they wanted to check her progress. Well, she had gone from 3cm to 10cm in the time it took to attempt the epidural, so DW delivered without it. Afterwards she's says "I don't know why everyone talks so highly about epidurals, I still felt a ton of pain". I laughed and told her that it didn't take and they couldn't do another one so she gave birth without the epi. She's like "Well, that explains a lot".

DD#2 - her water broke about 1 pm and we went to the hospital and walked to try to move the labor along. And walked. And walked. And walked. Finally at 11:30 they decide she's not progressing and give her pitocin. I was amazed that when it came time for the delivery all of a sudden there were like a dozen people in the room. It's like they all just appeared.

While we were waiting for them to prep her for the delivery, we were watching the 2:00am rerun of the Jay Leno show from earlier in the evening. We had forgotten to bring her favorite 'Enya' cd along to listen to for the birth and wouldn't you know just as she started pushing, Enya performed her favorite song on the TV. She thought she was imagining it... I said nope it was Jay Leno - pretty cool!

When I was born my mom said she couldn't get to the hospital fast enough - I was born minutes after arriving. She said I literally just slid right out without a bunch of pushing. I like to tell people I surfed my way into the world. ;)
