On Saturday I had planned how my morning was going to go. It's my day off, and dh works until 2 PM. That means I only have a good 6 hours to enjoy "me time". ;) So my cat, Bailey, hops up onto the kitchen counter, and he is limping. I said, "Come to mama, Bailey", trying to get him to walk some more that I might be able to check out this limp. He walks to me, and sure enough, he's limping on his front paw. I take a look, and he has some sort of GROWTH on his paw pad! Great! Now I'm gonna have to call the vet as soon as they open and get him in to be checked out.

I put him down, and he walked around limping for a little longer. Finally, I decide I want to figure out what on earth is on his paw. It just looked hideous! I put him in my lap, and turned his paw to where I could get a closer look. (He did not enjoy this examination.) I thought the "growth" looked suspiciously like something familiar. I decided I would try to just flick it off, and sure enough it flicked off. It was just a piece of cat food that had gotten stuck to the paw pad, for Pete's sake! :o And I was ready to call in an emergency to the vet for this? Could you imagine how idiotic I would've looked showing up at the vet for a piece of food on his foot?!?

Crisis averted...

yes! any strange behavior, like not waking me up several times during the night :teeth: , I know there is something wrong.

Of course - these little furries are our babies. I'm just glad Bailey was OK.:D :D

My dogs frequently lay on the ground like they are dead when the are playing... scares the heck out of me everytime.

I freak out of my kitten is missing for too long it's usually because DH locked him in the garage (laundry is out there).

Glad Bailey is ok...they aren't pets anyways they are family members, I think it's prefectly ok to freak out :)

Bailey needed your help. I'm so glad you paid attention and was able to help him.

My dogs have always come to me when they needed help. When I was a teenager my dog Cricket was limping and she had a piece of nut shell, the exact size of one of her pawpads, stuck on her. At first I didn't see it. But after seeing her limp some more, I did a more thorough inspection and I was able to get it off easily.

Maxie had a piece of glass in her paw once. She limped to me. It was a piece of a plate that I had broken and had missed picking up. It figures she would find the one piece I missed.

Yeah - my darling wimp of a cat got so nervous being at the Vet's last Wednesday just for a routine check-up & shots, that he started throwing up when we got home. By Friday I had to take him back in for shots to settle his nerves and his stomach! He threw up once yesterday - keeping an eye on him today. (I'm allowing him very small servings of his regular food.)

So - yes - what a worry sometimes. Glad Bailey is OK.

im glad that your cat is ok :) . i recently freaked out and thought my cat was pregnant. i brought him to the vet and she sed that my cat was a boy and that he just put on a lot of weight. lol. :teeth: we got him (i now know this) last year from a friend.

Mine will do that playing dead thing when they are sleeping. Has scared the stew out of me a couple of times. Especially, when Monty does it. He is almost deaf and you usually have to nudge him to get him to wake up. Then the poor guy lifts his head and looks all confused. Usually I just tell him to go back to sleep. I was just checking to make sure he was okay.

I LOVE appointments like that! You're all worried it's going to be something serious, and then you resolve it in a few minutes! The best are the pets who have something in their mouths (not the choking ones, but the ones that just LOOK like they're dying because they're thrashing around trying to get it out of their mouths). They're always rushed in with the parent thinking they're dying. Then, within a few minutes, you figure it out and bring them a pet that's wagging its tail like nothing ever happened. That's a good feeling.

Of course, I don't think you can ever be too cautious with your pets. They are good at hiding serious illnesses, especially cats. It happens about 3 times a week where someone brings in a pet for "a little something" that winds up either dying in the clinic or being something terminal. Actually, I put one of those to sleep last thing tonight at work around 8:00. Not fun.

After having lost two to a "rare" disease, you bet I am.

Though I've gotten more relaxed about it, lately. I still watch like a hawk and note anything out of the ordinary, but unless it continues for a few days or is serious, I don't rush them to the vet any more.

I'm guilty of that one too!! One day I came home from work and a friend had come with me as we intended to go straight out again. That day we had done some first aid training at work. When we got back to my house my cat was sitting where he usually sits when I get home. As I walked up to him I saw blood on his leg and and a strange lump. I thought it was bone sticking out of his leg!! So my friend and I put him into the cat basket (without trying to touch the leg!) and took him to the vet. His bone wasn't sticking out, he had been bitten by one of the local wild rabbits and had a blister that had burst!!!! I was just glad he was OK. But I mean how did my very large cat get bitten by a rabbit? I saw it happen again a few weeks later on the field next to our house. He is very lazy and couldn't be bothered to move when a bunny hopped up to him so he just layed there as the bunny bit him. Our other cat had to run over the field to him to chase the bunny away!!!!

OMG the visual I'm getting of that bunny biting the lazy cat is just too funny!
