CarolA said:I have seen shills on here.
And once I see them and identify them the limo company goes OFF my list.
Southern Elegance has been off ever since they put on THEIR web site a claim that they were "VOTED #1 BY READERS OF THE DIS BOARDS" (or something to that effect) Yes, they were voted #1 in a poll. Poll had three options and something like TEN voters! The "claim" was removed at the request of the board owners, but they had a poster over here just posting away about how wonderful they were.
One trick I use is when there is a poster with something like 4 posts I check the history. If ALL of their posts are "YYYY Limo is WONDERFUL", I smell a troll! Southern Elegance had a poster who posted once a day "THe best limo company I have ever used" That was ALL she ever posted!
I've seen -- and removed -- shill posts and troll posts on here in the past. I also remember the "endorsement" that CarolA mentions.
The webmasters and moderators do keep a close eye for things like that. FL Tours pays to advertise and sponsor this board, so the WMs have a vested interest in making sure that other companies don't try to get free advertising. Patterns of intentional spamming by the town car companies can be found. if warnings to stop spamming are being ignored, those web addresses are added to the word filter and the links become a line of asterisks. At least one company mentioned in this thread (and no, I won't say who) has their web address filtered, and I know of several others.
Asking questions and posting recommendations about all town car companies is fine, and we definitely want to encourage that. Sometimes, though, an overenthusiastic customer can be mistaken for a spammer. If anyone sees something they believe to be an attempt to spam, please report the post to the mods and we will check it out.
