So, we're not going to do the pirate cruise this time around (b/c one of my boys is not old enough yet, and he will throw a fit if his brother gets to go and he doesn't), but for future reference, has anybody had any luck asking for the cruise to be peanut free? The idea of all those kids eating PB around my DS gives me the willies. --Katie

Nope. You could ask for the kid to be peanut free but I doubt they would make the cruise peanut free. They do not allow parents on the cruise either so basically your kid would be responsible for avoiding nuts. You can try but basically I doubt they will do it.

Well.....this topic has gone around for awhile - discussed different ways. But it seems the pirate cruise will continue to serve peanut butter and will continue to be children only (I know there is another thread on the board about this for an ASD child but it comes up with peanut too - can the parents come along). There have been a few reports here and there of modified cruises but if it is done it is seldom and then others report they are not able to have any changes made when they called.

I just ignore the pirate cruises. Yes, they are cool but there is so much to do at WDW that this doesn't seem worth fighting for to me personally. I wouldn't feel safe sending him out on the boat with his epi-pens and a hope that they would know how to use them. He is a type 1 diabetic too, and too young to know how to give himself insulin for what he eats, so that is another problem all together (that would go back to having a parent come along).

I do think that it is the height of ridiculousness that they continue to serve peanut butter sandwiches on those things. It is one of the very few foods that are people commonly have touch allergies to. Why do they need to eat at all? Can a child these days go 2 hours without having a meal? Do they not already eat enough at WDW? Oye!

I know the Disney cruises are expensive but if your child is really into pirates and ships and you are willing to spend the vacation $$$$ on that - you get enough of that on DCL to keep you going awhile.;)

Can a parent request an a substitute sandwich? DS can be around peanuts but cannot eat them do to a behavioral allergy...He likely would not eat anyway, but I thought I would check....The other one just would never eat peanut butter...

I figure we will feed them breakfast before hand, they might eat the goldfish and we will have lunch when they get off the cruise.

Not sure about that one - I don't think they keep the sandwiches cool so that eliminated a lot of choices. Can't hurt to ask when you book it.

I did get this info from Brenda Benett a couple of months ago. Yes, they will make you a peanut free lunch with advance notice. Email her at special diets and she can get you the information on how to do that.
