I just joined our local freecycle group since DH and I are cleaning out our utility rooms and giving away tons of stuff.

Good Will wouldn't accept a computer, so we gave it away on Freecycle (DH is a computer tech and the computer was old but worked fine). We dropped it off at a lady's house last night. It felt so good to give something away to somebody who would use it!

I'm going to put a big box of VHS tapes on Freecycle soon (we forgot to bring to Good Will).

I'm thinking about asking for Purple Heart (Tradescantia pallida), a very common plant around here that I would like to use in the beds near my house.

I have gotten a really nice platter and serving bowl set, clothes for the boys, homeschool books and supplies, and a great pair of roller blades.

I have given baby items including a bassinet and crib, clothes and odds and ends.

That's very cool! We just had somebody haul away a bunch of junk we didn't want from our utility rooms, and the guy who hauled our stuff away said he would be yardsaling some it it--two old bikes that were not worth paying somebody else to fix up (but a do-it-yourselfer would find it worthwhile), a set of TV trays, etc.

I really like giving stuff away to individuals if possible (vs. a charity that probably throws a lot of stuff away). Besides the VHS tapes, I'm going to look around and see if there's anything else I want to get rid of. I am definitely in clearing-out-the-house mode!

Yes, I love Freecycle. I've gotten a few things that I'd been looking for (card table, some recipe magazines that I didn't want to spend money on) and have given away a lot of stuff. Stuff that you think is throwaway junk, you'd be surprised at what people will want. I've given away some really nice stuff too including computer monitors, other computer parts, books, clothes, vhs, unused candles, nice candle holders, etc.

We've also used freecycle. I've given alot away and also have gotten some in return. It's a great site. I also posted a wanted and received what I was looking for.

i just gave away a few hundred kids' books ~ many unread (we have a huuuuuuuge bookcase/wall unit, & it was stuffed).
i seperated them into grade levels, then into 2 lots. put them up on freecycle, & they were gone!
2 teachers got them (we also added some school supplies, etc).
i'm thrilled the books will find a good home, the teachers are thrilled to have the reading materials. :thumbsup2

btw, this time was great, but last time (a set of dishes), i had 2 no-shows :confused3 , which is the unfortunate side of freecycling....

FC is a great way to declutter!! ;)

LUV freecycle!!! Got all our packing stuff from freecycle for new house, and gave it all away on freecycle too. Gave tons of DK's stuff before the move It's wonderful!

I really like freecycle but it's so annoying when people don't follow through with pickup. Most of the time it's good, though.
We've given away many things and have gotten some nice things in return, too.
We got a sandbox, playhouse, trike, maternity clothes. It's really been a blessing.

I've been with freecycle for years, even was a moderator around Christmastime!

I've gotten rid of LOADS of stuff, mostly during moves, and just recently got my son an Ikea queen sized bed WITH mattress. The student used it moderately then her Mom bought her another one... WOW!

Yes, there are lots of no shows but I am never one. That's all I can control. Those that are not picked up I take to a local thrift shop.

I wish I wasn't such a fraidy cat to do this:eek: I don't like the idea of strangers coming to my house and knowing where I live and I don't want to be driving to their neighborhoods either. I guess I could meet them somewhere some would say but what a pain. Amvets comes to my house and picks up whatever off my porch. But I'd love to give stuff away to others who really want it if I could get over my fear of stangers.

I wouldn't let anyone come to my house. I specified in my ad that preference would go to the first person who emailed me with their phone # and address within city limits, because I had the computer in my car and wanted to deliver it TODAY. I received about 50 responses--only a few gave their addresses, but one of the very first responses gave me her address and phone # and i delivered it within an hour of my email showing up on the Freecycle site!

The other item I've given away was a big bag of size 8 clothes, and I also said they were for delivery only. I dropped them off at a house a couple of miles away from me.

I have used it to give and to get :goodvibes It seems the same people are giving and taking.. but that is ok, we are getting to know one another :lmao: I have someone that is going to save me their packing materials next time & just email me instead of posting them.. :thumbsup2 I will take them and use them in the classroom for art!

My first post was a "wanted" for a sewing machine- I knew it was a long shot but I just wanted one so badly

A lady got back to me- she had had back surgery and couldn't lug her 1970 something White sewing machine in and out of the closet anymore so got a lighter model.

It works like a dream, manual and all. I love it so much (and have made so many things on it)!!! I think of her every time I use it.

I'm ready to post again, I have some things in my apartment that I can give back to the group.

Last year we bought a new Christmas tree on clearance after Christams and needed to get rid of the old one, so I listed it on Freecycle. I didn't want to store it for another year and then try to get rid of it before the holidays. It had a couple of broken branches that were held onto the tree post with bread bag ties! Other than that, it was great. Someone responded a few hours later and came to pick up the boxed tree the next day. We just left it out on the porch. It was painless.
