Anybody else not a Domestic Goddess?

I'm so glad I'm not alone... I truly suck at and truly hate anything domestic. Plus I just don't have time. I'm a single parent, work full time and go to school, and sometimes we're lucky if we're eating heated-up-whatever at 9pm. And I can't seem to cook without messing up every pot, pan, and utensil in the kitchen! Bleh!!

The microwave is my best friend. The oven once broke and it was two years before I had it fixed. Between the microwave, the stovetop, and the toaster oven, it just really wasn't missed! :thumbsup2

Cleaning is worse... *shudder* I manage to keep the bathrooms basically clean, but you'll never find me dusting under beds and whatnot.

I agree with you on this one. I hate cooking I mean for a long time the only thing I knew how to cook was anything you put in a microwave. That was my extent of cooking. I hate cleaning. Luckily for us we do not entertain that often.

I should add that when I say I entertain, I mean I have friends over for dinner now and then. I haven't thrown a party (other than an occasional holiday gathering for family) since I was in college, when I threw a party or two with roommates.

And I'd still rather go out! :rotfl: I only entertain because reciprocity is expected. ;)

Me, me, me!!! I am not interested in having a perfectly clean house.

And, as for entertaining, I've found that pretty much no one appreciates the work that I put in to entertain large groups of people so I stopped doing larger gatherings.... will still occasionally invite over one couple or family at a time, but have told DH to stop me if I ever consider hostessing another holiday dinner for all the ILs.

Don't you hate it when you go to a friend's house and everything is perfect? Nothing is out of place, there isn't a speck of dust or pet hair anywhere. :snooty: Not in my house. You walk in my house and You will see piles of magazines to be taken to the nursing home, mail to be sorted, dishes to be washed and I'm sure some other kind of mess. Our house isn't dirty or filthy it's just messy. Thank God for the Swiffer products! Honestly! If it wasn't for those this house would be real dusty. My husband doesn't think to dust and I can't use the normal dusting stuff because of my allergies. Now that we leave the Swiffer Duster out he dusts about once a week.

I seem to be the only one who loves to cook. Dishes are something I'd rather not do, but cooking I love. If we had a larger kitchen I'd probably cook a whole lot more often too.

My idea of housework is "sweeping the room with a glance".;)

I cook and clean because I have to, but I get no joy whatsoever from having a clean house or sparkling clean dishes. I don't care what my clothes smell like when they come out of the dryer. I wish I could stop caring about wrinkled clothes, because I'm not so fond of ironing either. It's all boring, tedious work and it never changes. I've already told DH that when the kids go to college, he can expect cereal at least half the nights it's my turn to cook. He was not surprised to hear this, since I mention how much I hate cooking on a regular basis.

I enjoy cooking and am good at it. I am good at everything else, but I hate cleaning, mending, decluttering, laundry, etc.

I can't really see how anyone could actually enjoy housekeeping, but it is one of those things that needs to get done. I'm not rich enough to have someone else doing everything that needs to get done, so I figure it might as well be done well and with a good attitude.

My BF had a friend like this. Everything in her house was always perfect; you could drop by at 8am unexpectedly and it'd be spotless. My BF's DH used to make comments about how BF should be more like this friend, I asked my husband once why he never made comments like that. He said he wasn't brave enough. He's a smart fellow! :rotfl:

This is the perfect thread for me. I am a SAHM and I stink at cooking. DH does this. My view is he works in a restaurant and went to school for this so he knows more than I do. :lmao: trust me, look at my tag. :rotfl:

I also am not that great at cleaning. I have the attitude that it can wait. I'd rather do something fun with the kids in my free time than clean the house all the time. I mean, my house is not dirty its just messy as in I dont pick it up all the time nor do I make the kids do it all that often. I know I should but I just hate it.

I have friends that have the perfect house, the perfect scheduled life, the perfect dinners prepared. I'm just not that mom. I've always asked Dh if he is disappointed that I dont do a better job in that area and he says I am the perfect wife and mom he doesnt expect me to be maid and cook! I love that man!

I have an excuse for being a really poor housekeeper. When I was growing up my mother told me, "Never clean house when there's better things to do." I can ALWAYS find something more exciting to do than clean house.:rotfl:

I'll tell ya, a few years ago I was laid off. I wasn't going to get into a bd habit of getting out of bed late every day etc.....

My house was immaculate! You could have eaten off of the floors and a nice dinner was always made for my daughter and I. But I had the time and my daughter was a freshman in high school.

Now, I'm working full time again and I am gone from 7am -6pm. All bets are off.

I try to tell myself that housework is a way of showing my family how much I love them. It is a good thing I haven't shared that thought with them, looking around right now, they might think I hate them. :headache:

:worship:I love this thread! I love to cook, like to grocery shop, hate bringing the bags in and putting it all away ,I hate to clean. I like to wash clothes hate to put them away.
I figure the last few moments I have on earth I know I will NOT be thinking, man I should have cleaned more. I try, I honestly kind of sort of try, I'm just not good at it and none of my sister are as well, we swear it is in our genes.:goodvibes I use to entertain, I just got sick of it . I don't need to have people around me all the time, I am my own best company, my husband has his friends and I really prefer not talking about car engines and the like with them.

I'm in!

I only like to cook when I don't have to. - Meaning I'm a pretty good "recreational cook", but "fixing dinner" every night is a different story. - I always hate the thought of making more dishes, and I have no imagination when I'm hungry.

I am also not a cleaner. Pick up, definitely - too much clutter and I can't breath....but vaccuum the little edges, forget it! I always seem to find something else that needs to be done first. - I got so behind this year that DH got me 2 months of cleaning for Mothers' Day!

And unless it's a special occasion, my philosophy on company is "They're coming here to see me, not my house."

I hate domestic chores. I only vacuum once a week, if that. I clean the cobwebs when I notice them (and they're like spider- mansions by then). I NEVER dust. I fold all the laundry straight from the dryer so I don't have iron, and then I forget to put any of it away. I hate that cooking takes all this TIME and then the family is done eating within 5 minutes so..... I've come to hate that too!

I NEVER entertain. I don't believe in keeping my kitchen stocked- I just buy a little bit for the week- which my husband hates because he likes to be SURROUNDED by food when he enters the kitchen....

I was def. not cut out to be a stereotypical "wife and mother". And I don't feel bad about that! Although DH tries to make me feel bad about it.... but um... it's not working. Nope- still don't care.

We've lived here about 3 1/2 weeks and just bought a vacuum last week. :rolleyes1

I hate to cook. I did it for years just because someone had to. Then I shattered my ankle and was totally non-weight bearing for three months. We discovered that DH was much better at the cooking stuff than I was! And he also retired that year and I am still working. So he is the chief cook and bottlewasher. I haven't loaded the dishwasher since he criticized how I did it once about 20 years ago! Well, except when he was sick or travelling for business.

DH now does all the laundry pretty much. We still kind of share the cleaning but we both hate that. We do what has to be done. We don't entertain much so when we do it is kind of like mobilizing an army to get the house cleaned up and tidy. Its not really dirty - just a little dusty and cluttered! He is great at planning and will just assign chores to me and DD and himself until the house looks great.

Back when both of us were working and we had a bigger house, I did have a cleaning lady who came in once a week to do the floors, bathrooms, etc. I really miss that since she did a much better job than DH or I do!

Also, I think I own an iron and an ironing board but they haven't been unpacked from when we sold our old house - which was five or six years ago!
