Anybody else have trouble sleeping at the World?????

Disney is about the only place I sleep well. Even on other, more active vacations, my normal insomnia pops up. But not Disney. :confused3

You could try gentle/brief yoga before bed. Stretch out some of those walking muscles and use the relaxation poses to help you transition to sleeping.

Chamomile tea may help, too.

I would probably make sure to pick a resort where the pool is open 24 hours and go swimming/hot tubbing.

I usually lay in bed and read, or knit when I can't sleep at home. DH is a pretty deep sleeper, though. If I just laid there, I'd go crazy.

It doesn't happen to me but maybe a sleeping pill prescription for the week would be better than anti-anxiety? Anti-anxiety pills can make you feel physically ill, and you wouldn't want to start on a new prescription with those potential symptoms before vacation. Some prescription sleeping pills allow you to wake up without feeling like a zombie. If you can't get a prescription, try over the counter sleeping aids. There's ones out there for this problem (avoid NyQuil or the cold sleeping aids), they aren't as potent as the prescription ones. Also, try putting lavender oil on your face and/or pillow. It helps with relaxation and sleeping. It also helps relieve any redness/scarring on your skin! :thumbsup2

I did not sleep well at all on our last two visits to the World. But the reason is that I can't escape my DH's snoring!:scared1: I can always escape to my guest room at home, but there is no escaping in a hotel room! There's not much I can do about that unfortunately. :confused3

I can kind of relate. First, I am in a strange bed. Second, the thoughts of fast passes, rope drops, and all the zippidee do dah's going through my head makes it hard for me to sleep. I use tylenol pm, ear plugs and my pillow from home. It makes a world of difference. That said, I am never well rested after wdw trip :lmao:

UGH I feel your pain!! Last trip we stayed in ASMuFS so I could have the TV on a bit Dh sleeps through EVERYTHING- I waded in the pool while doing laundry, organized things for the next day... and hoped for sleep I was so tired and my body just hurt- eventually I bought some Advil at the resort store and that helped relax me enough to rest- it is terrible!! Next time I will berin some meds probably and my own pillow- hotel ones are never any good!

Wow! What is with all the pill poppin'? Are these drugs THAT easy to get? Looks like it! Wowza!

i usually have trouble sleeping before i go to disney...but once i am there, i am too pooped out at the end of the day to not be able to sleep. i sleep like a rock at disney.

So this is only at Disney, right? Not all the time. So you just have to work out the specific Disney problem.

Is there any way for you guys to start renting DVC villas, at least a one bedroom if not a 2 bedroom, so that you have another room to go to if you can't sleep on future trips?

If you're not tired when your family is, can you go out to an open-later park?

I agree with swimming, and also a nice hot bath with some Epsom salts can really make me drowsy. I used to have problems sleeping at home but have grown out of it (if I start having anxious thoughts I work on my breathing and I LOVE the semi-homeopathic flower essence called Rescue Remedy, available in all the grocery stores I go to nowadays, calms me (and my whole family, and our cat when she was still with us!) right down without me even knowing we've calmed down!), and the Epsom salts bath was always nice.

Calcium-Magnesium helped a LOT with sleep before I outgrew the problems as well.

Nope.

I'm so tired from the parks that I fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow. Actually, I sleep better at Disney than I do at home or in my dorm at college.

After about 10 years of solid nightly insomnia I accidentally discovered my cure. I have an iTouch and downloaded a "sound" application. It plays all kinds of sounds from rain to whales to whistling wind. Just for fun one night I played a sound of ocean waves and seagulls. I set the timer for 20 minutes and don't remember the dang thing stopping!
I wasn't planning to sleep, just wanted to listen to it because...well......I like the sound of waves. LOL

The next night I did it again and conked out within the first 10 minutes! I've been doing it ever since, about 2 years now! I am down to about 8 minutes and it works every single time! I bring the iTouch to Disney with me and it works great there too.

Good luck finding your solution. I had no idea noises and sounds would do this to me so maybe you could give it a try too!

I never have a problem sleeping when I am at WDW. Now in the real world is another problem because I am a night owl and can always find something to pass the time like DisBoards. Actually, I look forward to the trips to WDW because I know I will get 7-9 hours sleep.

I sleep like a baby. I'm going hardcore all day long. By the time I lay down again, I'm ready to pass out.

I can relate to that! our last trip, we discovered some "ambient" sounds on the alarm clock. hubby suggested I try it.

there were bells chiming. .. that was just plain silly... ok, I tried the swamp noises (something like that.) nope, bull frogs doesn't help. they jsut kinda joined in the rythym of nebo's snores. ok, this should do it. the ocean. .. it was nice, breezy, sound of the ocean roar... then.. suddenly.. sea gulls! the darned sea gulls kept interrupting the soothing ocean sounds! who the heck thought of THAT one?!

I finally put the radio on, in the middle of 2 stations.. static. ah!!!

sounds like a Tom Cruise fan here. Sorry, some people do benefit from pharmaceuticals. it's not like people are hanging out in the alleyways, buying from drug pushers, by golly!

we've been going to the same family doctor for 30 years. yes, he prescribes legalprescriptions.

for those who need the info, and aren't looking to insult:
hubby and some friends have found Ativan to help anxiety.
he thought that with Klonopin he was still climbing the walls... he was just climbing them a lot slower;).

It's hard on smokers who are used to having a smoke during the night.(believe it or not, it does help some smokers get back to sleep) now that there are no smoking rooms, you have to go outside and walk a long ways to do so., and are wide awake.

It is a big problem with all sharing a room. many people can't sleep with a light on. I love that the moderates (and NOW pop century) have the curtain to draw between the main area and the vanity area.

Op, I would suggest talking with your doctor as soon as possible, to try out a few things before your trip.

another thought. we like to do split stays in the parks. we RARELY do a full day, open to close.

any way you can do rope drop, enjoy a bunch of head liners, collect fast passes for that evening (same park, obviously), then head back to the resort.

let hubby take the kids for lunch at the food court and swimming while you have the room ALL to yourself for an afternoon nap? pull the drapes, put the radio on static, put the DO NOT DISTURB sign on the door. stretch OUT on the bed, use 4 pillows!!!

good luck!and well wishes.

I just got home from a WDW trip this past Sunday, and I slept better there than I did for the last month at home.

Op here. I think anxiety is my problem. I have spent a lot of money on this trip and many months planning to make it perfect and I worry that if I don't get a good night's sleep that the next day will suck! Im also very excited (way more it seems than my kids) and that alone keeps me from relaxing. I try to make myself go to sleep. My kids and hubby are asleep by 10 at the latest and Im a bit of a night owl so when they go down I do to so as to not interfere with their sleep. My DH is an extremely light sleeper so I worry about having the Tv on or light on and God forbid I get out of bed. This trip Im particularly nervous because we are taking my DD's best friend so there will be 5 of us in that small room (POR).

Thanks for all the suggestions! We always bring our sound spa for some white noise to drown out any other sounds but his time Im bringing my quilt and pillows from home and Im going to ask Dr about giving my some anti anxiety pills for the week.

Take this for what it's worth - but before you commit to a benzo (ativan, klonopin, xanax) for sleeping, do some research. They're highly addictive for some in as few as 4 days, and in some, a sudden stop of taking them can cause seizures. They can also cause paradoxical reactions, in which you take it to relax and end up on the complete opposite side of the scale. I've had it happen - NOT fun!

I did a lot of research on these drugs in college and spoke to a lot of doctors, nurses, and regular people, and I can tell you that unless you have a real, bonifide, ongoing issue, you should stay away. They are really, really meant for situational use (such as being afraid to fly or go to the doctor, certain associations with certain places - like somewhere a family member passed away, panic attacks, etc.). I can see the use of them as a sleeping aid short-term, while sleeping tests and blood tests are being run to find out what the problem is, but they simply aren't sleeping pills. I can't believe the number of doctors who prescribe them as such. I've done crisis counseling for people who are addicted to them, and it ain't pretty.

So to each his own, but if you aren't taking them yet perhaps you should first try melatonin, or tart cherry (has it's own issues), or hot tea with chamomile, then move on to benedryl (always made me tired the next day until I started taking the children's liquid benedryl, which I could tweak to the proper dose to get me to sleep but also let me wake up) or advil PM (but only if you have aches with your sleepiness - Advil PM has the same ingredient as benedryl, plus advil), and THEN consider something meant for sleep (like ambien or lunestra).

Just my own personal suggestion from years of research and support. Take it as you will - or not at all. And disregard me if you find it offensive; I just had to say something in all of these suggestions.

Yes, I also have trouble sleeping, especially on the eve of my last full day there. Living half way across the country, I know that my visits to WDW are limited. Once there, each night I feel similar to the way a child would view the night before Christmas...waiting in anticipation for the morning to arrive to open up all the presents.

My present is, of course, to drive to the TTC and enjoy the place I love more than any other location in the world.

I acknowledge it as an illness, but I really don't mind. :dance3:

I have trouble sleeping on all vacations. Beds aren't comfy and are too small for sharing yet we have to share, too many people snoring in 1 room, it's usually too hot in rooms.

I haven't found anything that works every night so I'm usually pretty tired on vacation. One or 2 nights I'll be soooo tired I will actually sleep and then I am ok.

We are considering renting a condo or getting 2 rooms at a value next time which would give us the space I need so I can sleep.
