Anybody else from Alberta?

Ok...so I hate winter at the best of times. But, looking at the weather network and seeing that we have another 7 days of snow is really stressing me out. I have not gone out for almost 9 days because a) the roads are terrible, and b) I don't have a car that is reliable is 5 feet of snow!, and c) did I mention I don't really like winter?

I wouldn't be so bad if it was just snow, but, its snow and -20 or worse temps!

I look out my window and all I see is white. Our neighborhood is so covered, that to get out of our crescent requires cat like senses...we can't even tell where the driveway starts and ends! The piles of snow are the highest I have seen in a long time! Driving is like taking your own life into your hands. We can't even open our back door...the snow has overcome our entire back deck! My husband has gotten stuck in ruts 3 times so far, and he is a great driver!

I take the train to work everyday, and if it wasn't for that reprieve, I think I would've gone stir crazy. Ever seen the Shining? Yeah thats what its starting to feel like! I'm starting to feel like the only friends I have right now are virtual since seeing people outside of the home is, again, like suicide since all of my friends are long driving distances away!

Anybody else feel my pain?

Yup I hear ya...right along with ya in Edmonton!!!!!This weather stinks!Having come from New Zealand I am really wondering why I am still here...lol apart from the fact hubby comes from here and we have our little guy,this weather is making me very homesick!
I also run a day home so my little ppl have major cabin fever!!!
Praying we get a reprieve in the next few days so we can all get some sunshine and feel better about things!!!!

Hmm well.... I used to live in St. Albert, just north of Edmonton. Was there during the winter of '68 (coldest ever, I believe - never got above 0 during the whole month of January).

Now I live in Florida and go to WDW every other month or so for a quick visit. Florida is much more to my liking.

I can imagine. We were in Edmonton over the weekend. Calgary is a little better(we are outside of Calgary). This weather is nuts, but it's pretty standard I find considering where we live. We would love to make it down to Disney right now with much nicer weather!

My BIL and SIL have relocated from Calgary to England. My neices have never known a Calgary winter, in fact cold for them is the -2 they had over Christmas.

They are traveling to Calgary this month for 5 days. poor things won't know what hit them. They don't even own snowpants.

Being from Saskatchewan our weather is much colder and more wind. At least you get to be in a big city!

I live in AB, in a tiny little community just south of Whitecourt...less than 200 people live in our hamlet. I don't get to be in a big city The bad thing is I traveled up to GP this weekend for a family birthday and now I'm stuck here! I think I'll try the drive tomorrow but only because I don't want DS to miss school! The roads here suck and everyone who has only a car is getting stuck. I got momentarily stuck yesterday when I took my DS snowboarding (I wasn't going to walk with my 10 month old...I watched from the warm van though!).

I'm sick of all this snow and although I'm happy that I'll get to go home to my DH tomorrow I'm not excited about the ensuing isolation that will result from all the coming snow. I'm a SAHM so I pretty much stay home when the weather is bad and I'm going stir crazy!

One thing is for sure...I will REALLY enjoy my starbucks on the way home tomorrow. I only get starbucks once a month or so when I go to Edmonton or GP to get groceries.

I so feel your pain. All the snow just keeps piling up - I am dreading when all this snow melts and dealing with all of lakes in everyone's front yards.

On the upside, I picked the right year to get 4 wheel drive. I traded my Honda Civic in for a Hyundai Tucson and I am so glad that I did.

I lived in Regina before moving to Edmonton. I find the weather here is comparable to SK, if not colder - but then maybe that's because I'm getting older and the cold bothers me more now than 12 years ago

When I worked at the University, I absolutely hated the commute from St. Albert in the winter.

I grew up in Saskatoon. I remember tunnelling snow in our backyard in the winter time, and jumping off the roof to the deep snow in the backyard (it used to go up to above our deck!). I don't remember the cold, but I do remember their summers got way hotter than the summers in Edmonton!

I work at the Stollery hospital, and live in the north side, so I get to take the LRT to work, so I haven't really had to deal with the driving aspect of this fantastic weather. However, I had a Dr's appointment today and that isn't so close to home...I couldn't believe the amount of vehicles that were in the ditch. You could see the ice like glass on the roads! And although I am a cautious driver, I still couldn't believe the amount of people who thought that going 100km on the Yellowhead was a good idea. Then, I saw a SEMI stuck and I knew that maybe driving down the highway going 60km like everyone else was a good idea....I wasn't in that much of a hurry to wait for AMA.

I am so sick of everything. I'm tired of the snow, tired of the cold and tired of the bad roads. I could take one of them but all three at once is making me crazy. We live in north Edmonton and all I've done for 10 days is shovel. My husband always picks the best times to be out of town. I'm now at the point where the snowbanks are taller than me and I may have to start a new one in the middle of the driveway.... We have a border collie and he's been housebound so he's going stir crazy. I may have to break down and buy him a pair of boots so he can at least go outside for longer than a minute without lifting his feet because they are cold.

I too grew up in Regina. When I first moved here 20 years ago I noticed the difference in the weather but now not so much. In Regina when it was -30 it was -30 for weeks, here at least it warms up. We drove there at Christmas. I forgot what it was like to drive down a highway in the middle of the prairie when the snow is blowing...

I consider myself a good winter driver but last week I got stuck at the end of our driveway at 6:30 a.m. and had to phone AMA to come get me out. When you phone and they have a message that residential towing and winching is suspended -- stay on the line and cry. It works.

Oh, well, I get to leave on vacation on Saturday.

I'm also in Edmonton and today was the first time in about 2 weeks that I got out of the house to go somewhere other than my kid's school. We've gotten our truck stuck a few times, and the snow in our front yard is just about to the point where it's too high to put more snow. Because of the god awful temps, I can't send my kids out to play. Because of the amount of snow in the backyard, I can't send my kids out to play. I'm done!!

Hey, don't throw any snowballs at me, but I am enjoying this winter!

We live on the western side of Calgary and haven't had as much snow as you folks up near Edmonton. We have enough, though & I love when everything is covered in snow.

Yes, it's been a bit cold but that's been great for our backyard rink. We set it up in November & have been able to use it everyday. That's a first in a few years! I heard it is going up to 12C here next week & hope the rink can survive.

It has been a little difficult getting into the mountains to ski though and we didn't go last weekend. Even COP has been closed which hasn't made my children too happy as they like to go there on weekdays after school.

I do feel bad for anyone who doesn't enjoy winter but just remember, it won't last forever! Well, sometimes until June around here, but that is still not forever!

Hey guys!

I am from Red Deer, and am also feeling all your pain! I really hate winter on a good day, and all this is just getting ridiculous! I haven't wanted to go outside in over a week, but I have to to go to work.

The piles and piles of snow is getting to be a little much. And the bumpy roads are awful. I am 5 months pregnant, and it actually hurts to be driving on some of these roads. I am not sure a bumpy road is good for the baby or not.

Anyways, I am hoping it's almost through!
