We will be driving from central VA. Anybody have experience with this drive? Specifically, if we drive straight through, quickest route, what time frame are we looking at? Our actual plan is to stretch the drive over two days, maybe with an extended stop somewhere neat (possibly Savannah, GA). Thoughts?
We much prefer low-key drives through towns rather than high-speed interstate traffic.

We typically drive almost all the way to Disney. We go to Ormond beach for the kiddos first. We thought about stopping instead in Georgia too this year to let our little girl scout see where the founder was born. Also I have been told there is a neat pirates house to see there for our son.

We drive from Central VA every year. We usually drive straight through on the way down. We leave at 4:00 am., and arrive around 5:00pm. We try to keep stops short, but we do make a few stops. The excitement keeps us going. We just take 95 and then 4.

We have never driven straight through on the way home. We just don't have the energy or excitement to do so at the end of the trip. So we stop around Savannah. That lets us tour WDW till afternoon on our departure day, drive a few hours to our overnight stay, and drive all day the next day.

We have only driven once. We live near Richmond so we decided to stop in Savannah. No problems that first day but the second day was bad. We left fairly early but hit a lot of traffic especially on the road you take after 95 that takes you to Orlando. We didn't get to Disney until 5, and we were expecting more like 1-2.

When we go in February we are planning to drive much further than Savannah to have a much shorter drive and hopefully get there earlier.

We have thought about driving the 12 hours straight through but then the adults are exhausted and the kids wide awake since they slept.

Much to my dismay we always drive (DH hates flying). We drive down from Hampton Roads. As others have said, it takes about 13 hours. We drive most of it over night (DH works nights, so it works out well). I-95 to I-4. Honestly, I think the worst part of the drive is through Jacksonville; we always seem to hit it during morning rush.

We drive 2X a year from near Lynchburg, VA. 29S to Greensboro, NC... I85S to I77S to Charlotte to I26E to I95S to I4W. 12-13 hours and we have driven straight but now take 2 days each way.

We've done this drive for more years than I can count. We hit 95, and stop in the Richmond Hill (Savannah) area of Georgia. Next day is a 5 hr drive. We always start this drive on a Saturday, and have found both days to be pretty traffic free. Especially Sunday. We get to the resort around 2, and swim til the room's ready. On the way back, we stop around Florence SC. So the bulk of driving is on the first day, both ways.

We've driven from Richmond down a few times. We either spend the night in Savannah or Jacksonville. In Jacksonville there is a Budweiser beer factory, where you get free beer. It's always a incentive for dh to get on the road early that morning to get there before they close.

We drive from the Norfolk Area. It takes us 12-14 hours depending on how often and where we stop. We normally travel down 95 and stop at the Savannah exit to overnight in our RV.
