I think since its predicted to be the slowest day of the year, they figure everyone will have ridden their favorite rides 5 or 6 times over, it doesn't make sense to stay open any later.
That a typical closing time for Disneyland in the slowest times of the year--maybe an hour earlier than normal. As for DCA, that's earlier than normal so probably some type of private event that booked the park.

I think I read somewhere (MousePlanet maybe?) that the 5 PM DCA closing was for a cast member appreciation event. The 8 PM closing time sounds like a typical off-season closing time to me.
We'll be there that day. I'm kind of excited for the early closures. We'll still have allllll day in the parks, but it'll help to have a decent time to have to go back to the hotel and chill for the night.
