We usually take 2 vacations every year & have been going to WDW for the past 18 yrs.( mostly in Feb. & April) For the past 3 summers we've gone to WDW & this summer we're planning to try Cedar Point ( 16 roller coasters!!) since we'll be going on our 2nd Disney Cruise & WDW Vacation in Feb. 2004. Has anyone been there recently & have any info. to share? Thanks Cathie

We love Cedar Point & have stayed at The Breakers 2 times.....very clean & well run park.....we also tried Soak City the last time we were there & loved that too!....there is no comparison to WDW....comparing apples to oranges....but if you love coasters, you will love CP.....if you have any other questions about it, feel free to email me.....suedrews@adelphia.net.....have fun!

went to cedar point a couple of summers ago and had a great time--extended family trip--first of all --are you going to drive there?we did from boston--made it into quite a trip and the kids still talk about it! it is a direct route out the pike onto I90 i believe-we first went to niagara falls, then to toronto for a baseball game - stayed at the hotel where you watch the game from your room!--after that we left for cedar point-we were going to stay onsite until we found a new hotel that had just opened that year(do you have kids?) the hotel was the great bear lodge-it actually has an indoor water park--we all loved it-didnt visit soak city as there was no need-as stated before cedar point is not disney-but we all had a great time and would do it again-(did you see the new coaster this year?) my kids think i'm gonna drive back again just so they can stay at the great bear and go on one new coaster!!!!on the way home we stopped at the rock and roll hall of fame--did a tour of cleveland indians stadium and then we kept on into upstate new york and just rested for a day in syracuse--it was a great trip!

Cedar Point is awesome (even more so if you like rollercoasters), not disney, but its apples and oranges as stated before. Cedar Point is much better then most 6-flags parks in the country (i think the only one that can compair is Magic Mountain in cali).

I went 2 years ago just after graduationg high school with a group of friends from school, and now were actually going back this year (gotta ride that 420 high roller coaster ;) )

I saw this post and I just had to reply!! Cedar Point is literally 20 minutes from my house! I was so excited to see something about cedar point on this dis boards. Cedar point is no where NEAR as fun as disney world, but we're pretty proud of it around here. Sandusky is definitely a tourist town, though- crazy and crowded in the summer, and completely shuts down in the winter. But it's neat to be able to say I live so close to it. The new ride-Top Thrill Dragster- is definitely a sight to see. It's 420 feet high and launches you from 0 to 120 in 4 seconds. I can tell you that I've never hesitated to get on any ride at cedar point (ok, so I had my doubts about millenium force, but mustered up the guts to get on it) but this one is a definite no!! A word of warning though- don't base your trip to CP around this ride-they've been having quite a bit of trouble with it since park opening at the beginning of may.

I noticed someone mentioned Great Bear Lodge in a previous post-I hope you had a pleasant experience there. My FH works there! He's pretty proud to say that, too. Both Cedar Point and GBL have been on the discovery channel, which was pretty much a highlight for this area.

I know this post sounds totally phony, but I swear on all things Disney it's the truth!! :p

I've only been there once and that was about 6 years ago. Not being a roller coaster fan, I watched many of the rides.

However, Soak City (the water park) is fantastic!! As much as I love the lazy rivers at TL and BB, I wish Disney would put in a "Crazy" river like their have there. There was a white water section in it that was so much fun.

I hope to go back some day and stay at the hotel that's right on the lake. It's not WDW but it was really fun.

Roberta

We live about an hour from Cedar Point and it is fantastic. My DW, DD (3) and I all have season passes and we go about every other week in the summer.

I agree with the poster who mentioned that comparing CP to WDW is like comparing apples and oranges. CP is a true Amusement Park.....WDW is a true Theme Park.

One great thing about CP is that there is something to do for all ages.....while it is probably the best park in the country for roller coasters, you don't have to like roller coasters to have fun there.

I know that going to CP all last year helped our DD when we went to WDW.

I LOVE Cedar Point. We used to go every year as we lived about 3 hours away, but now I live 9 hours away, and don't get to go that often any more.

The park can get crazy around holiday's, but that is nothing new compared to Disney World.

The "onsite" hotels are great - I have stayed at the Breaker's and really enjoyed it.

The water park is also alot of fun, and a nice break from the heat!

Millenium Force is my favorite - any roller coaster that makes me white as sheet is awesome!

I live in Ohio and go to Cedar Point and Disney a lot. I highly recommend Great Bear Lodge. It's not too far from the park. The hotel kind of reminds me of a Disney hotel with the way it carries through the theme of a lodge. The rooms are much bigger than hotel rooms at the Disney hotels as most of the rooms sleep at least 5 and many sleep 6 or more. Some of the rooms have kids cabins in them and some have whirlpool tubs. There's even some rooms that sleep 8 and have a loft.

The park itself is very nice with a lot of trees that provide shade, it gets really humid in Ohio in July and August. Some of the rides have been around forever but they always are adding new stuff. It's on a peninsula on Lake Erie and there is a lot of things to do outside of the park like take a boat to one of the Lake Erie islands. If you like thrill rides, this is the place to go.

we are leaving for cedar point tomorrow morning!!!!!!

this is our first trip. top thrill dragster IS down :( but i can't wait to ride millenium force!

we love coasters :)

Well, I'll add my two cents.
Stay @ a Cedar Point hotel. It gets you into the park earlier and you can do the resort guest running of the bulls, which will help because lines for TTD are around 3 hrs. on weekends.
Now to TTD, it is currently closed, due to problems with the hydrolics (sp?). It should be open within the next week or two, obviously its top priority for the park.
Now for when to go. If you're going in the summer, go during the weekdays. Also, if possible, go in late august.

I know you didn't ask for advice on other parks, but I suggest you also go to Paramount Kings Island when you're in Ohio. Ride the Beast late @ night. That alone is worth the price of admission. The beast is undeniably one of the top 5 wooden roller coasters in the world. The park also has alot of other good rides. I suggest, if possible, you check it out.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

I have been to Cedar Point many times. It's about 3-4 hours from my home. If you like coasters you'll really enjoy yourself. If not ,there are some things to do. but not anything like WDW. Coasters are CP's main focus. CP is a nice place to visit for a day or two--but not a week long destination.

For anyone thinking about going.. call 1-800-BEST-FUN and get their magazine with great money-saving coupons! You can get Buy one Get One Free park admissions, as well as food coupons. Definitely worth it!

We love this park, and we love DisneyWorld. They are two different things. But Cedar Point is clean and friendly (see my post under Kings Island in Cincinnati!). We stay at the Breakers Hotel.. the old one on site. It is very historical and nice. They have other hotels available too. Have Fun!

If you are going for 2 days buy the 2 day ride and slide pass (think thats what it's called) This will get you into cedar point & soak city both for each day & saves alot of $$$ over buying the individual tickets.
Also there is an all you can eat buffet, I think it is called mid way market.

Have fun Cedar point is a great park.

Just got back from an awesome trip to Cedar Point. It was our first trip since 1999. My DW and I love rollercoaster’s.

We stayed at Breakers Express. They have some great vacation packages. For $216 we got the following.

2 nights hotel
2 night park passes
2 full day passes
Free parking at the park
Dining Discounts
Early Entry into the park.

Weather was great for riding rides. 50 degrees and cloudy. No people.

We rode TTD 2 times. (Wait was only 1 hr.) This ride is very intimidating to watch. We almost backed down. After riding it DW and I agreed that TTD is the best thrill ride experience we ever had. Its not that scary. ;)

Millennium force - 4 times - 10 min wait.

All other 14 coasters were almost walk-ons.

We will definitely be coming back next year.

As a native Ohioan who always lived less than an hour from Cedar Point until 3 years ago, I've always claimed CP as "my park." I love it and I'm so glad to see so many others do to. I make sure I go home at some point each summer just to go to Cedar Point. I hope TTD is up and running when I'm there, but this might finally be the beast to tame me. I've never backed down from a ride, but sheesh!

I also agree that you can't compare WDW and CP. They are both unique, one-of-a-kind experiences.

We live less than an hour away from CP and have season passes. CP is great! My 4 yo DS loves it, especially Camp Snoopy and the bumper cars. There are many shows that you can see when the weather gets too uncomfortable as the buildings are air conditioned, and at night there is a laser show. I second (or third) the recommendation to stay at the Breakers. It is the old original hotel from when CP was first founded and is right on the beach. Just a very short walk away is the entrance to Soak City and CP. I will be more than happy to answer any questions you might have with regards to park hours, parking, shows, whatever - just let me know.
Also, I believe parking is $8, but if you make a purchase at certain restaurants that are listed on your parking ticket, you'll be refunded your money.
Have fun!

Thanks for all the responses, you guys are awesome! We'll be traveling from NH (1st week in August )& someone mentioned taking the NY thruway (90) towards Buffalo. Is that the most direct route? Also we stay at Country Inns & Suites a lot when we travel & noticed there is a new one in Elyria, Ohio. How far is it from CP & is it a good idea to stay off property? (I saw a rate of 71.00 per night for that hotel). The Great Bear Lodge sounds great. Where is it located from the park & what are the rates per night? There will be 3 adults & 2 boys ages 15 & 11 with us. We'll be getting 2 rooms. Thanks Disney buddies for all your help!! Cathie:bounce:

I have to add that if you don't stay right on sight, the traffic is bumper to bumper to get into the park....it is a one lane street going into the park.....I remember leaving to go home on a weekday & the traffic coming towards us was UGLY!! Pay the extra money & stay at Breakers.....parking upon arrival & never leaving your parking spot for 4 days was quite attractive to us! There are a couple of pretty good restaurants on site, Friday's being one of them.....

Elyria is about 45 minutes from Cedar Point. Even if you're staying off property, that is waaaaay too far away. Look for places in Sandusky.
