I'm having a little "bbq" for some of our friends and we decided to make it totally vegan since several of them are. We're going to do soy burgers, but what else can we have? Do chips have any animal products in them? Any help would be greatly appreciated. :sunny:

No vegan here, but Hulk Hogan and his family really liked the sausage like Tofurkey.

From Wikipedia:
Tofurkey is faux turkey -- tofu processed to look and taste like roast turkey. It has become popular as a form of vegetarian imitation meat served at Thanksgiving.

Tofurky is a brand name for a commercial version of tofurkey produced by Turtle Island Foods. Tofurky is made from a blend of tofu and wheat gluten. The classic "Tofurky" is the "Tofurky Roast," which might be served at Thanksgiving. Turtle Island Foods also produces a range of other Tofurky brand products, including deli slices, sausages, jerky and tempeh.

How about brushing some portabellas with a little olive oil and slapping them on the barby!? My vegan friends love em! So do I! Ya gotta read ingredients on just about everything. You would not believe what has gelatin in it. Gelatin is an animal product.
If you aren't sure-don't get it. Serve lots of organic wine! lol!

Read the ingredients! I'm not vegan, but I am vegetarian and it's amazing the things that have animal products that you wouldn't think would have them. Be careful about the vegie burgers, too, since some have dairy.

I know you said vegan but I just can't stop picturing your derranged beaver with a skewer in it, turning around on the rotessire with an apple in its mouth :rotfl2:

I am a vegan. I would suggest for grilling using skewers and put veggies on them such as green and red peppers, tomoatoes and yellow peppers.Or you can make on the cob is good also but as a butter substitute I use smart balance lite (no animal or dairy in that). Most chips are fine (but you have to read the back to be sure). I think what you are doing is great!

:rotfl2: You are so bad!!!

I was a vegan for years and am trying to get back to it (pregnancy knocked me off the bandwagon).

I second the portabellas. I LOVE bbq portabella sandwiches.
Grilled veggies in lengthwise slices - zucchini, squash, bellpeppers.
Try the "hippie section" of the grocery store where all the natural foods are. There are lots of chips that are vegan friendly.
Whole Foods or Wild Oats will also have vegan desserts. yummy!

Yum! Yum! :teeth:

I'm not a vegan, but I do try to avoid meat as much as possible. I just don't like eating meat. Both of the above options sound great! :)

We have Trader Joe's and Whole Foods Markets by our home which serve healthier, organic foods.

Have a great BBQ! :)

I do vegan 3 days a week, vegetarian 3 days and a raw diet one day . My favorite grilled food is pineapple. I either pepper it and grill it or marinate it in soy sauce, honey and ginger. It's so good! :thumbsup2

ETA: another favorite of mine is a raw corn salad. It's just raw corn on the cob taken off the cob, a red pepper, some celery, chopped red onion, some tomatoes and parsley. It's so good and sweet that you don't need to add any dressing or seasoning. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.

That sounds divine! I'm going to have to buy the ingredients for that tomorrow. Yum! Yum! Yum!
