Any Updates on Chef Mickey?? (Updated-Post 238)

If they let you use your own camera, then they lose the revenue of that statue photos. How do they win?

I remember 1900 park fare you can't use your own camera.

I remember 1900 park fare you can't use your own camera.

There were two groups who used their own cameras. I probably should have made the connection then but didn't.

We were there last Wednesday (8th) and paid $30 for our picture without Mickey -:confused3- I thought my husband was insane for paying for it - it included an 8x10 and 4 - 4x6 and a coloring book looking thing.

I hope he signs autographs! My kids insisted on going there for our first meal though we all know the food stinks. They will be unhappy if Mickey won't sign the first page of their books (a tradition for us).

I booked Mickey for our arrival day ressie. I also booked the later breakfast because my sis who was a CM said their is a good chance of maybe getting a photo with all the charaters. Don't think I will change it unless one or all of the following are not allowed/being done.

CAN you take your own photos?
Is Mickey signing autographs?
And what about the show?? Do the characters stil preform during the meal at some point? It has been quite a few years since we have been to Mickey's and way back when they did a little dance cooking type show.

I hope he signs autographs!

We ate at CM last night. During entry we visited with Mickey, got his autograph, got our picture with our own camera (the CMs will take a family photo), and posed for the package photo, which we knew was coming but declined to purchase.

I wasn't aware of the change with Mickey not coming to the tables anymore. When we were posing with him I started to think, hey is he going to stop posing and come visit the tables? Later it was clear he did not visit the tables anymore...kind of a bummer since you miss out on the individual character interaction.

Later we were back at MK and walked right in to the Judge's Tent during the Electrical Light parade and Wishes and visited Mickey there. Minnie was with him.

Wow! Thats just horrible! The character interaction is the only reason we go there and to not have Mickey himself just plain sucks! I hope Disney reconsiders this.

Donald no longer comes around to the tables at Tusker House. He is at the front door for photographs that they come around and sell to you. We were able to take one with Donald with our personal camera.

I wonder if they are trying to get folks to eat faster to turn over the tables quicker by having main characters not go to each table?

This news annoys me. What is Mickey wearing still the white chef coat? at least for 30 bucks he should be in the original red shorts.

On the flip side, I kind of like this change. Yes it sucks that the kids don't get to interact with CM, but it will make for a "better" picture. All of our pictures from our last visit of our kids with the characters at CM's were more like pictures of our kids, the character, the people next to us (or behind us), our used/dirty plates, etc...this way we can get a nice "posed" picture of just our kids with CM and even a nice family photo (assuming you can use your own camera; there's no way in #$@! that I'm going to pay $30 for a "professional" picture!).

It would be nice though if they did something like Akershus, where the picture is included in the dinner price. Not to get into a discussion regarding the following, but Akershus is one of my favorite restaurants and to get a "free" picture of my kids with Belle is a bonus!

I've been prepared to have our photo taken and pay for the package. I'm just upset that the plate and utensils are gone. I've had a lot of friends have their photo taken there and I thought they looked so cute. Figured it would make a great photo to hang in the kitchen. Oh well... hopefully he'll still be in his Chef gear.

I hope this isn't true either. I still wouldn't buy the picture if this did happen.

This sucks. We weren't going to tell my nephew he was going to meet Mickey (it's his first night at Disney) so looking forward to his reaction when Mickey came up to him at the table. Had I known this, we would have went to Garden Grill instead.

We are eating here next month. I'm very disappointed about this. The main reason we are going here is to meet the fab 5 and get pics. I'm not going to pay $30.00 for a pic with Mickey. I wouldn't pay $30.00 for a pic with any character. Disney's philosophy lately seems to be "pay more for less".
Of course I will still be visiting on a regular basis, just might have to bypass this restaurant. :)

That's really disappointing. The character interaction and antics were the only reason to eat there! A few rushed moments with a greeter character just doesn't compare to the table-to-table interaction, and to charge for the photo package on top of the inflated cost of the meal is just ridiculous. If they're going to make this change to making the "headline" character interaction at Chef Mickey and Tusker House nothing more special than an in-park meet & greet they should at least do like Akershus and include the photo package in the cost of the meal.

that really sucks, we've never been- the sole reason for upgrading our qs to dining plan was for the character buffets and most esp. Chef Mickey's. The good thing is they still let you use your camera.

Questions--

Is he still in Chef outfit?

Can we ask the CM to take a pic of the whole family w/ our camera, I'm guessing no but just asking.

If they let you use your own camera, it's not that bad. The pictures with a nice background are better than table pictures.

If you can't get chef mickey reservations, now might be a better time. People will cancel becasue of this.

Can't they have two mickeys, one wearing chef clothes outside taking pictures, one in regular mickey clothes visiting tables.

This is pretty lame though. with Mickey visiting tables, kids can see him for a long time. when he's outside, it's rushed.

Well this is craptastic news. DH and I ate at CMs when we were a footloose and fancy free childless couple and had so much fun that we vowed to make it a tradition for our kids in the future. We were really looking forward to taking DD during her upcoming 1st WDW trip, but this is definitely making me think twice.

How very un-magical :sad1:
