Hi, anyone just back from WL and have update on pool closing? Any photos to share?

Thanks in advance for any information!

The pool wasn't looking so good last week. Their new target date is April 1st, I believe. You'll be cutting it close! I may take some photos.

I'm dying to see pictures too. Forget that, I want a WL Pool Refurbishment webcam.

Does anybody know exactly what they are doing to the pool? Are they going to make a zero-entry spot?? I'm going in August and am very excited! But I would like to know what changes are being made to the pool so if anybody has info. I would greatly appreciate it! :)

I have a bunch of pictures but they are home and I'm at work, sorry. I will try and post some tonight.

The pool will not be zero entry.

What they are doing is general maintenance. They are redoing the rocks, tile, and refinishing the whole thing. The pool is completely drained. They are also digging up slabs around the pool fixing underground pipes and also refurbing the geyser (which was not working when we were there last week).

Hope this helps.

Are the Kiddie pool and hot tubs still open? I am going on the 9th of March

Are they changing the slide?? That is the biggest complaint from my kids.

If the weather cooperates, I'll be down there for the afternoon and will ask (I see someone has though!) But I'll get some photos too.

I hadn't thought they were doing much, just refurb - so it sounds like that is the case.

Thanks "Dizneykid" for the update. Erickr123 - I'm arriving on the 11th for the week with a few friends from CT! My daughter's school has two weeks off. We'll have two 2 bdrm villas. Look for my LGMH on my lime green baggallini! Deb

I put some up, there is a separate thread about it (it's on my link below).

Hi all ... we are going to WL March 17-24. This is my wife's first trip to WDW. Our children are 4 & 6 years old, and one of the main reasons we chose WL (after a LOT of research) is because of the pool. As mentioned by someone earlier, our plan was to hit the parks in the morning, come back for quiet time, go for a swim then head out to our character dinners.
I was shocked to find out ON THIS FORUM that the pool would be closed. When I called Disney, I was told that our TA must have been told this because there is a pop-up window warning the booking agents at Disney to tell people. I was sitting beside our TA when she called and I can assure you it never happened.
My TA is taking over the fight for us - as it is waaaay too late to make other arrangements. She even called in a fake booking for WL and WAS NOT TOLD of the closure again. We are not impressed at all. Why are people not being told when they book that the pool is closed?
Why are we paying deluxe rates for a hotel that no longer has deluxe facilities? This is our first big family vacation and we decided to spend the extra money to really enjoy it.
We too have been told that we could use POLY or Contemparary's pool. Hmmm let's see ... my 4 & 6 year old want to go for a swim. I have to first take a boat to MK, then the monorail to one of those resorts. WOW - that sure is convenient and easy.

Could someone please let me know if the geyser is out of commission as well?

Thanks!
(by the way, I'm not usually this grumpy)

I feel for you Dundasdad. :( We were lucky to know about the pool closing early enough to switch resorts. (I read about it here on the DIS a couple of months ago) I know my husband would have blown his top if we would have checked in and then found out. :sad2: Our trip was also booked by a TA with Dreams Unlimited and she never mentioned anything to us about the pool closing. I'm sure if there was a pop-up she would have let us know.

I would just keep checking availability every day. Things open up all the time!!! :) Keep your hopes up!!! :)

Have you tried to re-book at the AKL which would have similar rates as the WL. I personally much prefer the WL but without the pool, I really don't see the point to pay Deluxe room rates to have to take a boat to another resort. I would at the very least ask that your reservation be noted that you would prefer a room with a view of the Villa pool. This is on the outer part of the U shaped resort. Usually the same rate as a Courtyard view room. Which would just be looking at construction. We prefer this view regardless of whether their would be construction in the courtyard. We find the courtyard can be noisy when it's occupied, and don't care for being able to view into the rooms across the U. This is sort of how we stumbled on the Villa Pool view...and much prefer it. Particulary in your situation..it's the least they can do if they can't change your accomodations all together. You may also want to go the route of a moderate resort..which are also great. You can enjoy your own swimming facilities. We've stayed at the Caribbean Beach and enjoyed that very much. They have a main themed pool that the kids love, but also each island section has it's own quiet pool. As many times as I've stayed at the WL..I would sooner do that than stay there with the pool closed.

I could be wrong, but the geyser didn't appear to be on when I was there (I was in the swimming pool area for a while).

I'm very sorry you didn't know. Trust me, there are SO many things to know - a TA, even a Disney specialist, won't know it all. Disney doesn't offer up a lot of rehab info, that is something that often has to be searched for online. I'd certainly want to know if anything major was going on at a hotel/resort I was staying at - no matter at Disney or elsewhere. Not only that, but the pool at the WLV is the quiet pool - and I doubt it's been as quiet lately for the DVC people who want to use it.

I have taken a boat from WL to the Contemporary, not needing to go all the way to MK then take the monorail. I do not know if they still have that boat as this was 2003. I know that probably doesn't ease the sting any, but at least it would be a shorter trip.

Good luck!

We just returned this afternoon from a weekend stay at the WLV. the pool is not even close to opening. I didn't ask about it but if I had to guess, I would say it is at least a week from being completed.
