If I work for the state of Florida and have an office there but actually live and perform work in Tennessee, where would I file for unemployment?

I'm hoping it doesn't come to this but thinking/planning ahead!

You generally file where you live, not work.

I live in CT very close to the NY border. After we had our 1st RIF, the NY state people filed in NY.

Hello. I work for the Employment and Training agency in Massachusetts. The rule of thumb for Massachusetts is you file in the state the wages were earned. States allow you to file an interstate claim. If you make a lot of money find out which state has the higher benefit rate and then file there. It appears the wages were in earned in Florida.

I work for a consulting firm we have employees working all over the country. Generally it is where the wage was earned if you were performing the work in TN that is where the wage was earned. You need to know if they were taxing you in Fl or TN. Fl doesn't have a state tax not sure about TN. But if they do and TN taxes were withheld then usually TN unemployment was paid on your wages. You can find out which state they paid unemployment on you from your employer.

another vote for where the wages were earned, that's how it works here anyways.

for example, i live in MD, but work in DC. i would file in DC.

your employer should be able to tell you (try hr). we had a major rif here last year and they sent out a company-wide email about how to file for unemployment.

I appreciate all the replies so far. It is quite confusing. I did find something on the internet that explained that some Florida state employers such as universities (which would apply to me) do NOT pay into unemployment insurance but rather reimburse the unemployment fund when/if former employees make a claim. So, if they haven't been paying into TN unemployment, I doubt TN would want to pay me benefits!

TN does not have an income tax either.

From what I can find, the maximum benefit is the same in both states.
