We are going to the West Coast for the first time in October.........and hoping to enjoy some Halloween festivities! Would love to hear from anyone who has been to Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, Universal or Six Flags Magic Mountain for their Halloween events.....we won't have time to do all of them so would love to know your opinions and how they differ!

We've been to DL a few times for Halloween although it's a few years since last went. I absolutely love how the Haunted Mansion is decorated for Halloween with Nightmare Before Christmas theme! Personally I think it's well worth going! :-) Sorry that I can't help with the other places that you mention we haven't been to any of those for Halloween!

I was at Disneyland for Halloween in 2012 and had an amazing time - the decorations were fantastic and the themed rides (Haunted Mansion Holiday and Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy) were really quite fun. I also went to one of the Halloween parties and it was so much fun - loved going around trick or treating (ended up with about 1-2 pounds of candy by the end of the night) and soaking up the atmosphere (Dapper Dans singing on the rivers of America!).

(Would go back at Halloween again if I could! :))

We were there 2009. Theming is great with massive pumpkins, ghost galaxy space mountain and Halloween fireworks. Universal Hollywood us decorated for their Halloween horror nights, so you can still see it all, even if you don't go to the actual events. x

We went this last year - first two weeks in September so just missed Halloween - we went the year before though 2013 and did the Halloween party at Disneyland Park - we have already done the ones in WDW a couple of times and this compared really well. They have the usual trick and treat stations and as other posters have said, the Mansion is completely redone with Jack Skellington/Nightmare before Xmas theme - amazing! Space Mountain is also themed. We loved the Halloween fireworks too. Also on the lake, the Grim Grinning Ghosts come out on a raft and sing - they make the area very misty/foggy to add to the effect - surreal with Columbia ship in the background.
We also went to Knotts and Universal - didn't go to the parties but the parks were both decorated really well - I have loads of photos - DD was too scared to go to these - Knotts I believe is particularily scary.

I was there for Halloween a couple of years ago and loved it
The Halloween party was well worth doing and as others have said, the overlays at HM and SM are brilliant
You'll love it!

We were there for Halloween this year (well, 2014, but I'm still calling it this year!) and went to MNSSHP in fancy dress too!

To be honest, the MNSSHP night itself wasn't anything special and while we were glad we did it, we probably wouldn't bother again if we found ourselves on the west coast in October (especially given the extra cost of the ticket for the evening and the hassle of getting our costumes over to the States). However during the day, the parks themselves with all the Halloween decorations and theming added to regular rides IS something really worth seeing, plus it wasn't too busy either - we did everything we wanted to do without having to queue much more than 20 minutes for anything and the weather was still gorgeous.

We went about 5 yrs ago at October Half term. It was my first trip to DL and I loved seeing all the Halloween decorations including Haunted Mansion decorated as Nightmare Before Christmas and Space Mountain as Ghost Galaxy.
We did the party one evening and just bought a ticket for the party that day and went to Knotts during the day. To be honest I didn't really notice the Halloween decorations at Knotts but there was a party on that evening and there were hoards of teens waiting to go in for the party - they make everyone leave and then re enter for the party. There were some areas roped off ready for the party which I understand is more intense than the one at DL.
We decided not to take Halloween costumes to wear for the party due to the logistics of taking them from UK (especially as I had to pack in secret as DD didn't know anything about the trip until we were in the hotel the night before) however we decided to just wear 'crazy' instead. We took hair glitter in various colours, glow in the dark nail polish, Halloween tinsel, Hairbands with spiders dangling from them etc. We got a few comments from CMs during the evening about our hair and it was an easy way of 'dressing up' without too much hassle. It was a fun evening and the Halloween fireworks were really good I seem to remember. We also collected bags full of chocolate, sweets etc
