A good point was brought up in the "selfish people who get more multiple ADR's" thread.

Can you get a meal to go at a restaurant with out an ADR? Eating it at the hotel or nearby would be just as nice (ok, not just as, but better than some CS meal :) )

Most of the hotels food courts have microwaves right?

Thanks!

I have never seen anyone get a full meal to go from a TS restaurant.

I was sick once and the family brought me back a meal, but they had had dinner there, so that's not quite the same thing.

maybe some one will know for sure ..

There have been several threads about this in the past. There have been reports from guests that to go orders have been declined by some restaurants.

When I was waiting in line to check in at Mama Melrose's May '05 there was a couple that got very irate when they were told no walk ups were being accepted. They then tried to get their orders to go and the manager (who had been called at their insistence) told them they did not accept orders to go.

Last Sept my D-I-L and I tried to order a piece of grapefruit cake to go from the Brown Derby to eat while waiting for Fantasmic and were refused.

To an extent the restaurant seating capacities are based on the kitchen. Adding in "to go" orders would slow down the service to the other customers. Also, in many of the restaurants the presentation (plating) is part of the dining experience and would not work in a plastic tray. Also you would have to get your food, with sauces, all the way out to the park gate, into your transportation, and back to your room without spilling.

See this is confusing because i saw on the food thread that a woman got her ARTIST POINT meal and i believe her WCC meals togo so her children didnt bother anyone, not sure if she also had an ADR, but if she did that might annoy the server unless they get the tip anyway.

Oh well i thought it might solve some peoples issues.

I guess it depends on the restaurant. We ate at Yachtsman but had dessert "to go". They had absolutely no problems with this. BTW the dessert sampler is FAB!

But I would guess that dessert wouldn't be a problem since most of them are pre-made anyway. How much time does it take to get a piece of cheesecake or something else and put it in a foam box? A whole dinner would probably be much more of a pain.

Yes, I would assume that dessert 'to go' and a full meal 'to go' would be very different things due to the presentation mentioned above.

edit: typo

Right--we have had no problem with having the kitchen box our desset "to go" after our meal, but that is totally different than ordering a meal to go.

Most restaurants do not accept to go orders as that would slow the flow in the kitchen. They are designed to serve the number of tables they contain...and a large part of that service is the food preparation.

I've been successful in the past getting a slice of grapefruit cake to go from the Brown Derby. I guess it depends on who you talk to and what mood they are in. :confused3

I've heard of people getting the Cheddar Cheese Soup to go from Le Cellier with the breadsticks. Has anyone tried this one?

Apparently, it may also have to do with whether the restaurant is in a park versus in a hotel (Brown Derby - No; Mama Melrose - No; Artist Point - Yes; Yachtsman Steakhouse - Yes), and with regard to a full meal or just a dessert.

We had meals to go from Whispering Canyon while staying at The Wilderness Lodge. At the time, one member of our family wasn't feeling well so we wanted to remain in our room for a morning. I know we got to go breakfast from WC. :)

1) Yes.
2) Yes.
3) Yes.
4) However, your order might have to wait in queue.

NOTE: If the restaurant refduses to take your "to go" order, ask for the manager. They cannopt refuse you (except ar Victoria and Alberts where it is a different type of meal).

well i like your answers lol, but how do you know them ?

Sure they can. If a restaurant's policy is to not sell "to go" meals, they can absolutely refuse to serve a meal or meals that way. Escalating the request to management isn't going to change the result.
Now, they can't sell me my meal to go then refuse Nurseypoo, but they can sell NO meals "to go".

Agreed. There is no obligation to serve anyone without a reservation.

As I said in my post (#4) a manager was called at Mama Melrose's when a couple refused to leave and he told them in no uncertain terms that Mama Melrose's did not take to go orders. Of course they had been causing a scene and holding the rest of us up by refusing to step away from the podium and insisting first upon getting a 'walk up' table then demanding to order a meal to go.

Sometimes it amazes me how self-centered some folks can be. :confused3

Why would a restaurant have to take an order to go. If you had a reservation and choose to take it to go I could understand, but not someone who walks up and expects to order a meal even if they are not accepting walk ups.

I know this is a bit of a different situation, but we will be dining with a VERY active toddler (turning 2 week before trip) and I am a bit worried that he will not be able to last through all of the TS meals. When he says he is "done", he is DONE, and DH or myself will more than likely have to exit the restaurant with him (so as not to disturb other diners), while the other remains with our other kids. I am hoping that there will be no problem getting the remainder of the meal to go for whichever of us has to exit (hopefully we can at least make it past appetizers!) Anyone have experience with this? Just want to be prepared for the worst, but will hope for the best - toddlers are SO unpredictable!
