WE are taking baby dd on her first trip to Disney (first trip ever actaully). She will be turning 1 two days after we arrive.

I need any tips I can get on:

What to pack (trip date: Jan 4- Jan 14)

What to keep her entertained with on plane

What to keep her entertained with in line

What to feed her

How to heat formula (we will be using ready made canned formula)

And any other tips you can think of to give me.

It is me, dh, dd (6 1/2), and baby dd.

We have adjoining rooms at All Star Movies.

We have rented a minivan and will have our own car seat.

We are taking our own pack and play.

I would like convenience, but don't want to spend a fortune either.

Thank you for all your help.

You dont need your pack and play the resort had them no charge. I have traveled with babies that age and younger but i never heated formula so other than telling you to go to the baby centers I have no help there.

My DS turned one during his first trip to WDW. He didn't need anything to amuse him in lines because he was mesmorized by all the people and activity around him, plus the lines weren't really long in mid-Nov. DH simply carried DS through the lines. Traveling with a 12 month old was easy for us.

Some formula is available in individual servings of ready to feed which is very handy. My brand of formula didn't come in the individual sizes so I found powder formula much more convenient on trips- no need to refrigerate it and it can be mixed with warm water. Be sure to take along a bottle brush and dishwashing detergent to wash your bottles.

Typically children are transitioned from formula to whole milk at a year old. A neighbor transitioned her DS a couple weeks shy of the first b-day (ok'd by her pediatrician) and then formula was not an issue on their trip. Milk is easy to get anywhere.

My DS's first b-day trip to WDW is one of my best vacations ever! Oh, be sure to get a "Today is my Birthday" button in the MK. Every cast member who saw it wished DS Happy Birthday and made a fuss over him.

Good luck and have fun :)

We thought of transitioning dd over to whole milk, but figured that whole milk would be hard to find in the parks. Most restaurants have 2% where I live. So we thought to be safe we would keep her on her formula. We decided to use the ready made liquid cans because it doesn't need refrigeration and one can is just a little more than enough for dd.

We were at ASMovies with our 5-year-old DD and 14-month-old DS in October. We had no trouble finding whole milk for the kids. Servers always brought out whole milk, and the food court had both whole and low-fat milks available.

Have a great trip! The weather should be great, and your wait times will be nonexistant!

OK..I'm feeling a little brave today so I'm going to risk some flames on this one. I have been traveling with my daughter since she was one, and I have always brought along a portable DVD player.

Of course (emphasis on OF COURSE) I don't think mindless TV watching is a good idea, but when flights get screwed up or just seem to take tooooo long for a mini munchkin, nothing keeps them occupied like a nice Baby Einstein video or just familiar music playing. This trick saved me not once, but twice on the same day when our two and a half hour flight to Atlanta became a seven hour nightmare.

She's almost 4 now (sniff), and I still bring along our portable for road or plane trips. Sometimes it never even gets turned on, but it sure is nice to know it's there.

Hope this helps, and trust me, it's not as hard as you think it's going to be. I think traveling with her at one was probably easier then when she was three and wanted to TOUCH everything!

Good Luck!
Mel

No flames here. I want to get a portable dvd for the car since thats the way we ususally travel to Florida. Infact I take many road trips so I know I would use it a lot.

We recently returned from the WL with an eleven month old.
1. call ahead - the hotel usually has a pack and play no charge.
2. we switched to powdered formula. Lighter to carry and you could make it with warm water in the middle of the night.
3. bring baby oatmeal cereal or regular oatmeal. we heated it up in the cafeteria's microwave. This saved us cash and time over the course of the 10 day trip.
. i brought some jarred fruits and motts applesauce. I also fed her mac and cheese, and at the buffets i fed her plain macaroni, chopped meat and peas ect. Also, (blush) I would take apples and bananas from the buffett so that i would have fresh fruit later for her. It was hard to find fresh fruit. Bring a box of cheerios and if you can stop at the grocery store and pick up yogurt.
4. Make sure you pack an inflatable tube for the baby so she can swim ( if warm enough).
5. A small cold pack for yogurt, and food in the parks.
6. We actually drove there from NJ and she watched movies in a portable DVD player - baby einstein ect.
7. Bring a few sippy cups -- we lost at least 3.
8. i did use the baby stations in the MK and though they were great. They have microwaves.

We took DS to Disney in December of 2003. He was 9 months old at the time, but here's the few pieces of info I can pass along that were of great help to me!
-We requested a PnP from the resort, but did take our own sheet to help it feel (and smell) like home. Also-be sure that your little one is used to sleeping in the PnP! DS was so exhausted by the end of the day that it all worked out okay, but in hindsight, I wish I would have had him at least take naps in the PnP in the weeks leading up to our trip.
-We requested and received both a fridge and a microwave in our room. These were invaluable since DS was still on formula. I don't know about availability at the All Stars resorts, so you could always go with www.abbf.com. We used them on our trip to rent a rocking chair, and were so glad we did!! I would use them again in a heart beat!!
-We took the Palmolive DishWipes to clean the bottles, but, as someone else suggested, we used the disposable cups with lids and spoons from First Years as well as the Bibsters.
-I read someplace the suggestion to pack "mini diaper bags" ahead of time. (i.e. a gallon bag with a diaper, a sample package of wipes (or a zip loc bag with some wipes), and a disposable changing pad.) It was really convenient to just grab one of those bags out of the diaper bag and be able to go. It was also nice that I could put the dirty diaper into the bag when I finished and just toss it. I did the same thing for meals: One gallon bag contained his baby food, bowl with lid, spoon, and Bibster, along with an empty bottle and formula.
-We also chose to bring bottled water from home to mix the formula for DS. I kept hearing comments about how the water at Disney tasted "funny", so I decided not to risk the fact that DS would think the same thing and refuse his formula.
-Although it sounds silly, I also took one extra garbage bag from home for each day we were there. You accumulate a lot of trash between diapers, formula packets, and food packaging, so it was nice to know it was all contained! I'm sure that Mousekeeping could provide this for you, but I was worried that we would miss him/her in our comings and goings.
-Another thread on this board touched on this, but it bears repeating: I absolutely loved the clear shoe organizer!!! We used it for all of our bathroom supplies, including the baby bath stuff, and all of our first aid supplies. Speaking of...
-I am a proclaimed overpacker (is ther an overpackers anonymous?! LOL!), and was insistent that we take baby Tylenol and Motrin, as well as a decongenstant and simenthicone drops. I was very glad we did! It's a long story, but the short version is that we used all of the items we brough, including the thermometer, and I will never travel without them again. Also-don't forget your insurance card, and the name and number of your pediatrician. The front desk at the hotel can provide you with the name and numbers of both the local hospitals as well as a service that will come to you at your resort. You never want to even think you'll need any that information, but you'll be glad to know it if the need arose.
-My DMiL, who traveled with us, was kind enough to buy "happys" for DS. We discovered that a few new toys were great for holding his attention during wait times. A trip to the Dollar store should yield you quite a few new toys that you won't feel bad if they get broken or lost without breaking the bank!
-Other items that we took: Anti-bacterial wipes for kids from Bath and Body Works and Clorox wipes for the room
-Items I wish I would have brought: small deflatable beach ball; glow sticks for at night and during dark rides; travel DVD player (if not for child, then for parent!); blank notebook, and washable marker and/or stickers for DS; notebook and pen for me to keep notes for trip report! :earseek:

Hope this helps you to have an absolutely magical time!!
~Kimber

After you get a bunch of stuff from the dollar store, wrap it in colored tissue paper. If your child thinks it's a gift, it's even cooler that just some toy you brought along. When we went with our 15 month old DS, I even wrapped up some of his pwn toys and he thought they were new!

Definitely leave your PnP at home and just bring your own sheet!!

For the lines (which won't really exist while you're there!) buy or borrow a baby sling. It was much easier to deal with than a Bjorn or Snuggly or one of those huge backpacks and since we borrowed it, our DS wasn't tired of it and thought is was really cool. Our 3 y/o even bugged us for a ride in the sling.

I don't think we ever had to buy him food while we were there. He just ate off of everybody else's plates. The portions there are large enough for 2 children to share one child's meal as long as they each have their own drinks.

Have a great time and if you have room in your suitcase, I'd like to go along! :flower1:

Sorry HillPete. We are filled to the brim! I am not sure how I am going to pack it all and still have an empty suitcase for stuff to come back. I wish I was rich so I could just leave everything there and use all the room for new stuff!

I always buy Lysol spray before I settle into our room and spray everything down. When my 3rd dd was about a year old she contracted thrush. We used a hotel PnP so I would definitely make sure you spray it down if you use it. You just never know these days.

In addition to everything else mentioned, be sure to spray the bathroom and especially the tub. If you can place a towel or safety mat on the tub surface yet I used to like bringing an inflatable bath tub to keep my babies safe and contained. Easy to pack and inflate/deflate, too.

If your baby is going to be going thru a transition like going from bottle to cup or formula to milk definitely start before your trip.

HTh and have fun! princess:

Okay first my suggestion would be to relax. This is going to be a great time for all of you HONEST we just returned with our 14 month old. It was not that much more difficult to travel with him then if it had just been the 2 of us, somehow in an effort to accomodate the baby you aquire a much more easy going way about approaching the trip, I think I packed the least amount of stuff for myself. Anyway, I agree with all of the things posted and just have one additional suggestion a bath mat, you can pick them up at the dollar store they don't take up much space and then you throw it in the trash when you leave, it makes bath time in the hotel tub much easier.

As for milk, whole milk is available just about everywhere, counter service, sit down resort shop all have whole milk, and then some places offered lowfat 1% in addition to whole milk.

Echoing Neecoal's point -- there is whole milk available just about everywhere. We're here at the World now (I'm looking out over the Christmas Tree at the CR as a I type :) ) and have not brought much "extra" for my son (who will be 1 year old on the 12/13). We have fed him table food (what we are eating) everywhere. I'm nursing so no need for formula. No baby food needed at all thanks to many healthy choices here. My only advice is to bring your own Cheerios (or stop at the grocery store and get them). We bought the Brita water bottles in our luggage and have used them as a filter to store water in "used" Dasani bottles. We opted to use bed rails and co-sleep vs. use the PnP "crib".

Best advice is to just let the magic happen. The CMs here have been incredible to both my Birthday Boy and my 3-yo princess! The CR, too, has been incredible -- absolutely NO complaints from me!

Karen I could have written your post. DD#2 will be one on monday 12/13, although we will be at VWL instead of CR. DD#1 vwill be 6 on tuesday 12/14.

And everything else too, nursing and cosleeping at the hotel :)

We are going for DGS 1st b'day in Feb. I thought I had thought of just abiut everything, but realize now that I never thought about bathtime. I see that some previous posters mentioned about bringing a bathmat from the Dollar Store, that's a good idea, but I was wondering how you made out with the bath. My DD uses the baby bath seat when she bathes my DGS, without it I can just imagine him trying to pull himself up and out of the tub. How do you all manage without the bath seat?
