Any tips on getting DS (almost 11 mths) to eat table food?

I'd say he's fine also, I don't think many kids like those stage 3 foods. Mine hated them too.

My youngest wouldn't eat ice cream at that age because she couldn't feed it to herself  (she is/was a bit of a control freak)

He'll suprise you one day and just start, keep them on his tray and maybe eat a few of them yourself. He might be more likely to eat something you are sharing, I think that is something all kids do, they'd rather have what you have.

It does sound like a texture issue! Just keep trying to give him textured food-a bite here and there-and he'll get used to it. Try soaking the cheerios in milk for awhile so they get soft or try scrambled egg whites with some cheese melted in them!! A.J. always loved that. It's all just trial and error!!
Good luck
Kim

P.S. my nephew is 2 and the only way they can get him to eat veggies is by giving him baby food!!

My DS was the same way - he wouldn't eat table food or baby food though. (booger wouldn't take a bottle either but that's a different story!) He started eating at about 16 months, on his own, and he hasn't stopped since!

Kids are funny little things, DS was crawling at 5 months, walking at 10, talking in paragraphs at 12 months (he hasn't shut up yet either!) DD crawled at 10 months, walked at 17, and is finally talking more and making sense at two and a half!! She was the piggy though - she was chowing on anything and everything at 7 months! I figure if this new one does all of the above by kindergarten we're good.

He may just not be ready yet, he'll grow into it!

My girls didn't like baby food AT ALL & hated the stage 2 & 3, refused to eat it. I would just cut up what we were having and they ate it.

Both of them were toothless at 1yr still and ate food without any problem, including steak.

PS

Has he had the McDonalds french fries? That is usually a good jump start.

Thanks so much everyone. :)

He has had french fries a couple of times...he'll put them in his mouth and such/chew on it...but one time he gagged and threw up everywhere so we don't do that in public anymore. ;)

He also *just* started accepting the sippy cup and using it...guess I have a picky little man on my hands. ::yes::

I agree that he's saying-not yet Mom! Have you tried mashed
potatoes, mashed carrots, bananas? things with thicker texture
and a little lumpy. Ya know, thinking back, I didn't try anything
any thicker than mashed potatoes until about 14 months. DS
was 8 months before he really started eating baby cereal,
9 months on other baby foods and I think it was 2 months after
his first birthday that he had his first McDonald's french fry!
I went to unsweetened regular applesauce, they I started cooking organic apples and mashing them. It was that transitional phase that I made the most food for him specially.
Don't worry-DS is almost 9 and eats like a horse now! Somehow,
it just all works out. Also, for my DS, too many new things at
once just was not successful. Maybe stick with transitioning to the cup for now and once he's completely happy with that-try
solids again. just a thought

I too agree he just needs a little more time. Kids are all different and sometimes when we agonize over something too much, they pick up on that and "use" it against us. I speak from experience.

I used to cube up into very little tiny cubes sharp cheddar cheese. I don't know why but both my boys would love this stuff. Just start out with 3 or 4 pieces. Enough to peak his interest but not overwhelm him. I just tossed a few on their high chair tray and they would pick them up and munch it down. I tried many foods that way. No plates of utensils for a while. Chicken is another good one, dice it very small and they often will pick it up and put it in their mouths. Bananas and pears do well too. Broccoli went down well. They both loved the whole canned green beans but not the cut ones or french ones. I can't explain that one. Dice bits of bread or toast. Have you tried the Zwiebach toasts? Those are yummy. I love them with a little soft margerine. They liked using them for teething but only when very closely supervised as they crumble.

I made my own baby foods. I have recipes for meats that I cook on my own and I used to food process canned veggies and fruits moving into fresh as they grew older. You can control the texture and the flavor is so much more like real foods. I could never stand the tastes of most baby foods, esp. meats.
