right, well i have finally booked our last minute holiday to wdw staying at the port orleans riverside, leaving in 3 and a bit weeks (last minute i know!!!) now my dd will be 5 and a half months by then. Now i have never travelled with a baby before so if anyone has any tips then please help me!!! :thumbsup2. We have booked our seats on the plane (ba) so we have a skycot for belle both there and on the way home, people have told me to feed her as the plane is taking off so it doesnt hurt her ears and we have a crib booked at the resort.

Does anyone know what the cribs are like :confused3(like a cot or travel cot or something else) and do they come with bedding? i have a pop up moses basket that i was thinking of bringing so that she isnt sleeping on a used matress, is this a good idea or will she be fine in the crib???

we wont be driving whilst there (booking the magical ex) but someone told me i can order groceries to be delivered to the resort so i dont need to bring nappies, has anybody done this and who do you use?

any i better to bring my normal parent facing pushchair (maxi cosi loola) that is more sturdy than a stroller or should i just bring a cheaper stroller that lays flat? has anyone ever had problems with the stroller being stollen :scared: or anything being stollen off the stroller when on a ride i.e do i need to carry everything on the rides (nappies, wipes etc)

how have you sterilised bottles on holiday as i dont fancy packing the steam steriliser, what do you use?

any other tips on traveling with a baby would be really helpful :worship:

Hiya,

Cannot comment on a few of the questions but I would take whichever stroller would make baby more comfortable and offer protection from the sun.
We have taken an over-size large stroller in the past so don't be too worried about taking the larger one.
I wouldn't say you have to carry everything with you on the rides, we have always left things behind on the stroller and never had a problem.
Just don't leave them out in the open and visible.

www.gardengrocer.com deliver groceries, they are very very good, offer a huge range of products and whilst more expensive than shopping yourself I can highly recommend using them.

Hi,
I took my daughter at six months and it was no problem. We flew united and the sky cot was too small for her so she just slept on our knees. We took some new toys on the plane to keep her amused when she started to get grumpy - which was hardly ever as she was nosey that she loved flying and all the people milling about. We just tool a stroller with us as you could take this right to the gate and then we got it at the other end. We gave her a dummy on the way up and down and this solved any problems with sore ears.
As for bottles, we took a small microwave steriser with us.
It really is quite straightforward travelling with a small child. You do have to take a lot more stuff as hand luggage and I don't think I have watched an in flight movie or taken a book on board with for the last three years. I actually think that children adapt better to the time differences/jet lag than we do.

I can't help with any baby advice, but would 100% recommend Garden grocer!!

We ordered once for our arrival and also a week in. The big packs of bottled water are worth it alone!

Hi i am going on tuesday with a 4 month old, we are staying at conorado springs resort, this is my first time with a baby but i have had alot of advise from all the helpful people her on dis so here are my plans.

Like you i have booked a skycot and plan to feed her during take off.

I am going to use the crib that is provided by the hotel i have been told these are travel cots, and i am bringing my own bedding for it.

I am going to take my regular pushchair because she will be spending a lot of time in it so i want her to be comfortable and i have not herd of anyone having a problem with theft.

I have orderd nursery water, baby juice, nappies ect from garden grocer, and i am taking milton sterilizing tablets for the bottles because disney mods dont have microwaves.

Hope this all helps.

The crib will be a travel cot and it will have a bottom sheet but no other bedding so you need to bring your own. If your little one is used to a cot she should be ok, but if she is still in a moses basket you might be better to bring your own travel one. For your buggy I would bring the comfiest one as your little one will be spending several hours in it each day.
As for sterilising I think you can get bags where you put a sterilising tablet in it mixed with water. Also maybe for travelling you could get some disposable bottles, this would save you from carrying dirty ones with you.
garden grocer is a brilliant service and I highly recommend it.

We took DD at 6 weeks (long story, booked trip before fell pregnant!)

Off the top of my head....
Take sterilising tablets - don't know why, but Americans aren't big on our sterilising methods. They boil or use dishwashers, all you need is a sink or a cheap bucket with the tablets!
If you use powdered milk, take enough for the trip - never found anything obviously the same as we have, plus it is $$$$$ for some reason!
Take enough nappies for the flight and first couple of days, but thereafter, nappies are good value.
If you plan on using jars, they have plenty of choice, and decent value
Take anti-bac wipes for the plane, it's amazing what crazy mess the toilets get in. Also Pampers make some disposable changing mats which were great for the plane and the parks
Your pushchair will be fine, there are so many parked up around the parks, people leave all sorts on them without any apparent problem. We took a giant Quinny Speedi, no problems anywhere.

Can't think of anything else right now, but it was easy with a tiny one, you will have a blast :goodvibes

We went when our daughter was 8 months (Spain) and 9 months (WDW).
Take your own stroller - especially *** it's a loola - my friend has one and I am soooooooo envious of it. We used microwave sterilising bags in Spain, but by 9 months in WDW just washed with hot water - she was having mostly proper food by then anyway. I would think filling the sink with boiling water and dousing the bottles would be fine. If you buy the presterilised bottles, check first that your baby will drink from them as my daughter did not like bottles other than what she was used to.
We travelled with Virgin, skycot plenty big enough for our 9 month old. We actually took our own travel cot, but this year will be using the Disney ones (Graco pack n play) although you can request a full sized cot if you like. Our little girl was cold some nights *** I packed her summer sleep shorts and t-shirts (forgot about air con - oops!) so she slept with us some nights, she also uses a baby sleeping bag so I took that.
I took all my own nappies but on investigation they sell the same Pampers Actifit that we use and the same Huggies swim nappies, so this year will not take our own.
Do take your own formula tho. For the flight we preordered ready made carton airside from Boots. Then had sealed powder cartons packed in case, we had to declare this on white form but was not a problem.
I can't think of anything else, but please feel free to PM me if you have any thoughts or questions. Oh, one other thing, we took disposable bibs so we didn't have loads of smelly bibs hanging around.

Buy a shade a babe for the pushchair - AMAZING.

Be prepared for some yukky nappy rash- take that yellow cream it works really well.

We gave lots of bottles with cold water in to keep her hydrated.

Take lots of changes of clothes- N sweated through hers all the time

Yes to the shade a babe - check out ebay for some cheap ones - it was Amazing! We didn't have any nappy rash probs on holiday, but the "yellow cream" (metanium) is fab. We also didn't have any sweating problem and I took far too many clothes for my little one - but every baby is different.

took my oldest son at 8 weeks (booked before pregnant lol) and at 6 months#
and will be taking my son this march at 16 months and our new son at 4 months

I definatly second the taking of your own sterilising items, Ive opted for the sterilising microwave bags, you can use them 20 times each and theyre really quick.

We took tinned powder for our trip but also ordered cartons of it made up from boots airside for the plane etc, which worked out well as you can take them into the usa, they just put them next to a machine to test them.

we also bought a buggy fan from wdw, shaped like mickeys hand think it was $15 kept morgan cool

we also take enough nappies for the plane, found the nappies out there very good (the huggies nighttime are fantastic)

oh and the sleeping bags for babys are great as villas can get cold in the night, due to air conditioning, these stop baby kicking off the covers and getting cold

We took DD at 9mths and 15mths - I took my own nappies and then used the space in the case for other things on the way home!

We bought a lightweight stroller that laid flat - we really appricated this with getting on and off the WDW buses. You want a comfortable but lightweight stroller as you will be carrying that, a changing bag & baby on and off buses at least twice a day! (And TBH we were glad we had a hire car and started driving to all the parks except MK)

We had no trouble leaving the stroller but always took the changing bag with us as I put my phone & purse in there too so we only had the one bag!

The cribs in the resorts are Graco Pack'n'plays - we took our own travel cot matress with fitted sheet and her blanket. She also wears a sleeping bag so we took that as well. They did provide a flat sheet but no other bedding.

I was breastfeeding first time so fed during take off & landing and she was good as gold. Last time she was asleep for both take off and landing so didn't have to worry (mind you that was the only time she slept on the whole flight :scared1: )

You will have a great time and remember the baby care centres in the parks they are little havens to get so quiet time :goodvibes

wow, thank you all so much for your help. :goodvibes
I am def going to get a shade a bebe! i have brought a buggy fan for her so she shouldnt be too hot in her pushchair, i think i am going to go for the loola as this is what she is used to and it faces both ways so we can turn her round depending on what way the sun is facing. we normally head back to the hotel during the hottest hours of the day anyway so we should be fine with the heat.

We have a travel moses basket thing so i think i will bring that and pop it inside the pack and play as she sleeps in a crib at home and i think she would get scared of the space in a pack and play.

I will def order some essentials from the online shopping place to be delivered to the hotel as this will save space on nappies and probably save a fortune on water. I brought some cold water sterilising bags in mothercare for her bottles and i assume i can get a kettle from mousekeeping so thats that prob sorted. I am now soooooo excited :yay::yay::yay:

thanks again everyone for all your help and i am so pleased to hear that you have all had great fun with your lo's in wdw!!! i have never experiend it as a mummy and Belle is a really interactive baby so i know she is going to love the characters already, i suspect Mickey and Minnie will be her faves as she had a thing for Santa at xmas and i think it had something to do with the red suit! lol
