OK, so I haven't gotten a picture with any characters in, oh, let's say 12 years. :flower3: I think the last time I did so, they didn't even generally have lines for them! But I'm already more or less in love with "The Princess and the Frog" and I'd like to get a picture with Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen while I can, even though I'm scared to, too.

I know they're not available during the showboat show, and I think someone mentioned that they got a nice quick wait by hanging out in the area after the show?

Any more tips for meeting Tiana? Any tips on meeting characters in general? If you get in line do you know that you'll actually meet the character, or is it likely that you'll be waiting in a long line only to not even get to meet them? As an adult I'm quite intimidated, to be honest. :flower3:

If you are in line to see a character & a character host is w/ them, you will be able to meet the character bc the host will turn ppl away from getting in line when it is getting close to their break time.
If you go & meet a character, you can always ask how they are doing first. That's always an icebreaker. lol. You can also ask about their family and/or friends too. For Tiana & Naveen, you can ask if they did something special after the wedding and how their restaurant is doing. Compliments are always nice too!
I know what you mean about being intimidated bc I can get that way sometimes around characters. But if you think of something random to ask them, it would be fun for you & them bc you never know what their response will be. :)

They have them in a nice cubby in New Orleans Square. I never saw a huge line for them. During the show, there were maybe 4-5 people hanging around the rope for when they got back. This is a great place to hang out anyway as the dancers parade out this way when the show is over (and begins!). They trow out beads when the parade out. DD got a strand while the dancers were waiting to start. :thumbsup2

Thank you for the tips! I like your icebreakers, Disneylvrforever, and that sounds like a great place to hang out, ballarinamom! Does anyone know when the Meet and Greet closes for the day?

OK, here's the other odd thing--I have an American Girl doll that I've made into an African-American girl from the 1920s. I think it would be really cute to get a picture of her dressed in one of Tiana's costumes, with Tiana, and without me. Is that a possibility, do you think?

(And do you think the meet will be a lot busier after the movie premieres to the public? I guess it's likely it will be busy on Friday - Sunday just because it's the weekend.)

Thanks again for the help. :)

I can't see her refusing that request. I've seen other princesses posing with kid's plush toys, so I can't imagine the doll would be a problem.

We were there the Monday after the show/Meet & Greet opened. I expected a Pixie Hollow like line of 2 hours because it was such a new thing. That's why we asked the CMs at the Meet & Greet when the two would arrive and went 20 minutes earlier than that. No one in line. The CMs even tried to convince me to go away because it was so quiet and they didn't want me to wait unnecessarily.

I did count - with me it were 5 groups in line in the end, and 2 more families got in line when they saw the dancers arriving with Naveen & Tiana.

I can see the meet becoming a bit more busy when the movie premieres, but not freakishly busy. One of the reason may be because it's kind of hidden in the "back streets" of New Orleans Square.

In your OP you say you are scared to get your pic taken with them. Why? If it is a "funniness" of being an adult and wanting a pic with characters... don't worry another second about it. When I went to WDW I wannted to get my pic taken with characters. Everyone told me to go for it. So I did - big time. I got my pic taken with 33 different characters in 8 days. Just stand in line with everyone else and when it's your turn, up you go. Nice, polite, and with a big smile.

I don't see why not. Have your pic taken with them and then say, "Oh, and could you take one quick picture holding HER (pull out doll)? Trust me, they've been asked stranger things!

Absolutely.

You could try to get in the Showboat Jubilee show. The guests that participate in the show get to meet the Tiana characters afterward, as the Mark Twain makes it around the river. There is a Photo Pass Photographer on board to take pictures as well. She is beautiful!

That's right. Tiana seemed to be at the meet and greet (located at the Court of Angels, near the Blue Bayou) after every show. Sometimes it took a few minutes after the show for her and her Prince to arrive.

Like the other Disney princesses, Princess Tiana is very gracious. :thumbsup2

HTH :earsboy:

They have Tiana and her prince in a beautiful little area in New Orleans square, back behind a little shop full of Princess & the Frog things. We happened to be in the store & saw her through the window. We were the only people there to see her - no line at all! She was so sweet and gracious w/ the cutest southern accent. Instead of telling DD to say "cheese" for the picture she said "everybody say gumbo!". You will love meeting her!

A beautiful photo setting...

Thank you, all!

Disney Dreams, I'm not so much embarrassed to meet Tiana as an adult (I've done some pretty silly things and not felt too bad). More, I am shy around strangers and shy to ask people for things. :( (and shy around guys too; I'm not sure princes qualify? :flower3: ) I didn't enjoy meeting characters even when I WAS a little kid, to be honest. But I think I can do it!

I had thought about being in the show, but I wouldn't want to do it alone and am not sure my friend would be up to it (plus it appears the volunteer-getters aren't so eager to give away slots anymore? :( ). Plus I'm not a good performer at all, LOL. I don't know, though.

I THINK I am going to actually make my doll a quick version of Tiana's wedding dress, so if that's not an ice-breaker, I don't know what is. :) We'll see if I manage it, though.

Thank you again!

Hey, Eeee-va! Isn't that a gorgeous dress? I think Princess Tiana will be one of my favorites, too. I'll be at the parks the same time as you, though it's a slim chance we will bump into each other, I'd love to see your doll. I hope you do take a photo of them together and then post it!

That's the plan! :)

My favorite dress is actually her masquerade dress:

That's the one I was planning to make (and have about halfway done :flower3: ) but I decided it would be more fun to have a dress that would actually be recognizable...

I'm working on the leaf ("wedding?") dress right this moment. Trying to make it out of my "stash" too (not buying any additional supplies). :flower3:

I really enjoy meeting the characters, but I also only really care about meeting my favorite characters, so I tend to see the same characters on just about every trip.

Honestly, I have more fun meeting characters as an adult. When I was younger, part of me comprehended that there was a person inside that costume. As an adult, I see someone inside that costume who is becoming that character. When Chip and Dale start goofing off and/or fight with each other, I love it because that's exactly how they act in the cartoons.

Character lines can and will vary. Sometimes, the handler has told me that the line for seeing so and so is already closed and that the last person in line is the last person to see them. On one occasion, I was that last person in line. There are also times where you're standing in line and they'll announce that the character has 5 minutes left. If that happens, it doesn't matter where you are in line. They'll leave in 5 minutes regardless of whether or not you're next. I've also heard face characters flat out say that they can only see 3 more families before they have to leave. If you're 4th, you're out of luck. So, if you stumble across multiple characters that you want to see, get in line for the one you want to see the most.

As for tips for meeting the characters, the best advice I can give is to think about the movie and/or cartoons the character is in and go from there. I've found meeting the characters is a lot more fun when I give them a chance to show how they're not just a person in a costume, but have actually become that character. I wouldn't worry too much about the doll. I have a plush toy of Dale that I showed to the chipmunks once. Dale was quite happy to see his little self and taunted Chip accordingly. Chip responded by beating up plush Dale and scolding me. Dale then picked up plush Dale and hugged him. The big key is to respect the characters and have fun with them. I believe that they really enjoy meeting adults who appreciate just how incredible they are at what they do.

I always try to respect everyone (though since I generally like to be left alone, for me respecting people often manifests that way) :flower3:.

Here's the doll who will be meeting Tiana. (Though I am going to put on my cloche hat and meet her too.) She likely won't get to wear her glasses since I think they'd get lost.

OMG Eeee-va...that is ADORABLE! :lovestruc You MADE that dress?! I am so impressed! :worship:

Thank you! Yes, I made it myself (it's actually the back-up dress; I have a nicer one I'm working on :flower3: but won't get that done until after my trip). The colors aren't a perfect match because I made it all out of existing scraps I had, but I still think it's very cute. :)

Be sure to post pictures of the other dress when you get back from your trip!:goodvibes

Thank you, PrincessSitka! Kayla's Mom, I definitely will post her medieval-looking dress when I finish it. :)
