Any tips for getting onstage at Hoop De Doo Review?

My 7 year old son loves westerns and is a ham. I think he would love to be on stage during the Hoop De Doo Review. How do they pick the volunteers from the audience? Should we arrive really early? Do seats matter? Any advice or tips would be great. Thanks!

Seating is assigned in the order the PS's are made. If you are one of the first few to call, you will be right next to the stage area. If you are one of the last to call, you will be the farthest away. I don't know this for sure, but I would think that sitting closer would help.

I got picked the last time I was there. I was thrilled because I must have been there 10 times growing up and was never picked. The tip I remember reading was to wear a loud shirt. It worked for me - I had on a bright orange hawaiian shirt. I'm not sure if the shirt is just to make you stand out in the crowd or if a loud shirt suggests a loud personality, which would make for a better 'actor'. So I'm not sure if this works for kids. But it couldn't hurt.

Just guessing here, but I'd expect they look for kids who are having fun, singing along and all that, in addition to being well behaved and presentable.

we were the oct 03.we sat 2 rows from the stage.during desert one of the
ladys form the show came over to my husband and asked him to go on stage.
well my dd and dn wanted to go to,but think they only ask the adults to go on stage.well we waited 30mins for my husband to make his appearance on stage.Boy did he make an appearance,he was the fairy godmother all dressed up in tutu and wand dancing on tip toes and all.I laughed so hard

very nice picture of himself all dressed up.I show that picture to all my family and friends .

I ordered our HDDR tickets waaaay in advance, so there's a good chance we'll be close to the stage then. However, DH and I do NOT want to be picked. Do people ever say no when they are asked. DH would probably have me cancel our reservations if he had any clue there was a chance that he would be called on. We have never been to this show before and have no idea what goes on.

I book my Hoop Dee Doo tickets as soon as I decide I am going to WDW, sometimes up to a year before. I sat in the front right next to the piano 3 times, and the other times I have been at the table in the center where the singers sit for their solos.

I have been to see Hoop Dee Doo revue at least 8 times and these are the type of people they seem to look for.
A young male around age 20-30 to play the cowboy ("maam twarn't nothing, it's what us hero's do")
A young boy around age 6-10 to play the hero
A young female around age 16-25 (always seems to be blonde when I am there) to play the can can dancer
and a heavy set male around age 40-60 to play the fairy godmother.

I have never been chosen mainly because I don't fit into any of the above, being a middle aged female. As my sister says, is 50 really middle aged? Am I really going to live to be 100. I think middle aged is 35. Peggie

We've been to HDD more times than I can count, but have never been picked. I have already made our December 2005 reservations hoping we'll be close enough to the stage this time for my son to be picked. He'd be the perfect hero.

My son was spotlighted last year. You know when everyone is singing, and then "one person hangs on to the note too long"... He loved it!

I don't think you have anything to worry about. I'm pretty sure they can tell who wants to get into the show just by observing your behavior.

I was the can-can dancer MANY years ago...I was about 14 at the time. I remember we were sitting about 2 or 3 tables from the stage, but I'm sure that may have changed by now. I'll have to see if my Mom can find those old pictures...we are taking our kids to the HDDR in October and would love for them to see their "famous" Mom on stage!

My DH was picked to be the cowboy several years ago. I think it's because he was loud and knows the show almost by heart. They could tell he would be a big ham and he was.

I've only been to this show once and it was back in 1984. My 7-year-old cousin was selected to be in the show. We were seated in the very LAST row by the doors and were one of the last groups to arrive.

We've been to the show twice, and both time a member in our group was choosen. The first time, it was just me, DD, and DH. He was choosen to be the Indian. We were up on the balcony, so I don't think that it matters where you sit. He too, had a "loud" shirt on. He also shaves his head bald, so that makes him stick out a bit too.

The second time, we were closer to the stage, and My Dad was picked for the fairy at the end.

Also, they did ask us whether or not we had seen the show before. We made sure they knew just the 3 of us had. I'm not sure if that makes a difference or not????

My 65 year old dad (very conservative I may add) was picked to wear the tutu last November. He was not expecting it and probably would have refused if the lady had not snuck up on him unexpectedly and he had time to think of what he was doing. This was our first time to see the show which made it all the more hilarious.
We did not stop laughing for a while. In fact I still can't stop laughing about it!!! Thank goodness for digital cameras to capture the moment.

HDDR reservations can be made up to 2 years in advance.

OK I made my reservations for a party of 10 for this July including and noted a birthday in the party. I made it last Mar '04'. Thats 15 months in advance. Is that soon enough to get a "good/close" table?

When my DS was 4 he was picked to be the "Texas Ranger" in the HDD.

We had a table near the door and when the entertainers came in, one of them actually spoke to my son (called him a "cutie"). As soon as they went into the audience to pick people for this part of the show, she came straight to him.

It was hilarious! It was the highlight of our trip. He still talks about it (he's 12 now).

DH and DS both have great luck at getting picked to be in shows. DH actually got picked at the Shamu show (I was very jealous!!) and DS is always getting picked to "help out" in the WS street performances in Epcot.

They never do anything special. So I don't have any tips about that. I agree with some of the other posters. I think it is important to look like you want to have fun and be included.
