Any thoughts on May?

We're usually a September traveling family, but might have to switch to another month because dd is now headed off to high school. So we're looking at August, or the beginning of May.

Any thoughts on which is a better time? We're used to the September heat, and know people who have gone in August, but know nothing about Disney in May.

Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!

We have gone in May (the second week) for the last 2 years.. and we're headed down again this year. As for the weather, we've barely had any "cool" days. Last year we went to Sea World one day, it was so windy we almost bought sweat shirts! But by mid-day it was hot. Usually it is warm... we've seen highs of 85 to about 92. We intentionally go in May so that it is a great time for water parks! It is very nice at night too.

Crowd wise - 2007 it was wonderful. Example, we waited for 1-2 rides to get onto Dumbo and Tea Cups.. 2006 was a longer wait. Not sure why?

I do know friends who went the 3rd week in May. They said they felt like they had the park to themselves.. I don't know if they were pulling my leg! But.. that would be wonderful!

Good luck with your decision!

We were there the first weekend of May 2007. It was perfect! Unfortunately the kids don't have a long weekend in May this year, we had a special election for a couple of levies, our schools close for election days. Hopefully 2009!

We LOVED May last year! I plan to make it a routine to go every other May.

Thanks. Just switched our reservations. We'll be at OKW this May, instead of BCV this August. Oldest will be in high school next year, no more homeschooling for her, so now we're either back to the school schedule, or she can't come.

We have been the last 2 times the first week in June, and are going back the 2nd week in June this year.

Although not May the weather and crowds should be similar and were not unbearable. Personally, I would prefer to go in late Fall or early Spring, but the kids school schedules don't permit that right now.

Don't get me wrong, its hot and steamy, like most southern states in early Summer. But with all the places to keep cool it wasn't terrible.

The crowds also weren't as bad as I expected. There were waits for the more popular things but waits of more than 30 minutes were rare. A few 60 minute plus waits but that's what FastPasses are for :)

We are going in May this year as well. We homeschool and travelled (not to WDW, but to Fl.) in May last year and it was wonderful.

BTW, we have a daughter from China too! This will be her first trip to WDW. We wanted to get in just before she turns 3 in July :)

Just remember that lovebugs come out from middle of May to about middle of June.;)

We've done both.

My DD13 is a freshman. We went early last August & had a terrific time.

We've also been during May the past 4 years, & had a great time then too.

I've been down the last 2 April/May's (this year we're going in April). In general I found April weather a bit cooler and more tolerable like October. May gets progressively hotter. Mid-May on it is downright searing hot. Great pool weather. Unfortunately it's also the dry season so wild fires to start in the area and the waterways have lower water. Last year the ferry captains at SSR said they were a few days away from shutting down the ferry system by DTD.

One plus to May travel is that everything is in bloom around Disney. It is very pretty.

We love May and are going the third week in May. We had to go Memorial Day weekend last year. What a mistake. We will only plan for the first weeks in May from now on. I don't think it is as warm as Sept. We love the flowers they have then. A great time to go!!!

Early May is a great time to go.

Thanks again for all the replies. We'll be going in May (this May)- second week. It will be our first stay at OKW in a 2 bedroom. We've been there before in a studio, so looking forward to the spacious room. We did give up BCV (much to 9 year old ds's distress) for our original reservation, though.

We are going the third week in May this year and might try Memorial week next year. We went in July last year. I am hoping for a little cooler weather and faster lines this year.

May is warn to hot ;)

AUG way to HOT:eek:

May is a nice time of year I alos like April and January..

We've had cool/rainy weather one early May trip, but still, we go in May because of F&G show. My April 30th BCV trip cannot come soon enough!
