Any thoughts on how I should deal with this online store?

I ordered $1600 worth of furniture online. They charged my credit card immediately, told me my order would arrive in 6-8 weeks, and after that never sent me any updates. The latest estimated delivery date came and went, I received no furniture and still no calls or e-mails with updates. I e-mailed them several times after the latest estimated delivery date passed by, and was told they would contact me when they heard something.

12 weeks after my order, I finally contacted my credit card company to file a dispute explaining that I never received the furniture I paid for. I couldn't wait any longer to file a dispute, they only will consider disputes within 60 days of the credit card statement and I was one week from that cut off. The credit card company immediately refunded my money, and sent me a letter saying they would contact the vender.

One week after getting that letter (now 14 weeks post order), the furniture store e-mailed and said they have my furniture in their warehouse and are ready to schedule the delivery. I responded by saying that I had filed a dispute with my credit card company for all the reasons listed above, and consider the transaction canceled. They sent a e-mail back saying they understood why I did that, but that they now have my furniture in their warehouse and rather then have it sit taking up space until someone else orders the same item, could they offer me a discount, deliver it to me, and have me pay for it at the discounted rate after it’s arrived at my house and I’ve inspected it?

What do you think? I do still want this furniture and it seems fairly low risk if I don’t have to pay until it arrives. However, I’m not at all impressed with the company so far so I’m not sure I want to continue to do business with them. Maybe I should just be glad I got my money back and move on to a company with better service? The furniture is nothing custom and I could get the same item elsewhere, including from a local store at a slightly higher price.

If I do decide to have them deliver the furniture, what do you think would be a reasonable discount?

Any opinions on this?

If you still want the furniture and they are willing to do a COD then I would insist on at least a 30% discount. No reason why I came up with the number but I like it. :goodvibes As long as you get it in writing PRIOR to the furniture leaving their warehouse then I think you would be okay.

It sounds like the company knows the messed up they are trying to make it right with you.

I wouldn't do it but that's just me. I'm pretty easy going but hate bad customer service. I can't help but wonder how helpful this company would be if you need something replaced if broken or damaged.

The furniture company should have been in better communication with you. Many times the manufacturer is to blame for the lateness of the furniture. The furniture company should have let you know this. If you still want the furniture, I say go ahead, but don't pay until it has been delivered and you have inspected this. The company really doesn't want to have to store this furniture in their warehouse. Chances are, if you don't buy then they will offer it to someone else at a discount.

We orderd a special crib that had to be shipped from Italy. It took 6 weeks longer than anticipated but the company we ordered it from, continue to keep us up dated.

I love shopping online. Will buy all kinds of stuff. But I absolutely draw the line at Furniture. And your experience tells me why. If I were you i'd just shop around in local brick and mortar stores to find the same items or something similar. I'd much rather pay more for the service you can get from a good furniture store than get it cheap online. and 1600 bucks aint cheap. I'd tell the company thanx but no thanx

If you can get a discount then I would consider it...although with their track record, what if something breaks or you are unhappy with it when it arrives? They might not be the best about honoring returns and that sort of thing. Maybe best to go elsewhere. Plus there are so many sales right now, I am sure you can find a good deal.

Google the name of the company to see if they have a reputation for this kind of thing. It might be better to be able to walk away with your money now.

As for customer service after delivery, I can't tell you how many headaches I've had with brick and mortar furniture stores when delivery was on time. Good service before does not necessarily mean good service after.

OP, Go for 50% discount and FREE shipping!!!:thumbsup2

I agree: Let them charge your credit card again, after the furniture arrives and meets with your approval. Otherwise, they can sell it to someone else, and you can give your custom to a local business, and help out your local economy, eh? :)

??????????????????????????:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
RUN don't walk....WHY would you take furniture from a NON reputable company?
Do you think they will unpack it all and you'll inspect it and then get a great discount?
They will probably be selling you "warehoused" furniture that sat somewhere with mice and every other type of vermin, never mind, Bed Lice, Bed Bugs etc...you would not know this till AFTER it is in your home,
WHY
take the chance, they already showed you what they were like...
I SAY RUN and be thankful You already got your Money back...WHY would they want CASH........, could it be cause you'll have NO recourse?????????
