Any tests a Dr. can do to detect a heart problem or aneurysm before going to Disney?

Please forgive me if I sound paranoid. I hope no one flames me for asking a simple question. --Isn't it a shame you've got to be afraid of being flamed just for asking a question?--

Anyway, I was just wondering if there were any tests that my doctor could do before my trip that could detect any possible problems before our upcoming trip? After all of these recent incidents at theme parks I'm thinking about my health in ways I never gave a second thought to.

If you know of anything I could specifically ask for when making an appointment would you mind posting your advice?

Thank you so much for taking the time.

No need to apologize for being worried. And no flaming for being concerned.

I would just get your regular physical and have them check for things like High Blood Pressure and maybe Diabetes (which are two risk factors for aneurysm...not to say that if you have either you are destin to have one, but they are factors that play in).

I would not worry to much about it though. Don't lose sleep over it (insomnia can cause them too :) )... the chances are so slim. Most of the deaths are caused by things that would not have been detected by the doctor anyway. It is just a sad and unfortunate situation. One where it would have happened sooner or later...

Don't fear the unknown, have your check up and have a great vacation... The most inspirational story I can give you is that of John Olerud, he was a major league baseball player for many years... he suffered a brain anuerysm and survived. It did not stop him from doing what he loved, He wore a hard helmet ALL the time while playing, instead of the regular ball cap the players wear on the feild. This was because, he could have been killed if he was hit in the head by the ball. It did not stop him from living life and doing what he loved. Sometimes you just gotta live and not worry...

Have a great trip and if you are really worried ride the green team at Mission Space, I personally like it better because I get motion sickness. :)

EEG, EKG, ECG for your heart.

MRI with dye for aneurysms.

But these things are really only necessary if you have other symtoms which make you predisposed to these conditions. I don't know that many doctors would perform them because you're "afraid you might have them."

Don't worry... just take care of your yourself, eat right, exercise, and HAVE FUN!!!!! :goodvibes

Ali's right, most doctors only run these test if there are underlying problems mainly because they are so expensive and most people need a referral to have them done. Have a regular physical and if you are a smoker you may get a stress test done but besides from that relax and enjoy your vacation. Definitely share your concerns with your physician, he/she may have suggestions for you.

You cannot detect an aneurysm without an angiogram which is an invasive procedure. If you feel great and have your routine exams I wouldn't worry about the unknown...that in itself puts added stress on your body. If you are that anxious about certain attractions just skip them and enjoy everything else!

Ok....everyone has to go sometimes. It is an appointment that cannot be missed.

My view is...what better place to go if you have to! I mean, as long as it isn't an accidental thing like a crash or explosion (painful), if you are gonna go...make it the Happiest Place on Earth and go out in style! I plan to go out with a smile on my face anyway, so, I want to be in a place that makes me smile.

We're DVC anyway, so we're going for the next 50 years.....it ought to be enough.

Certain jobs require physicals that check out for that kind of thing and they do the full ecg etc etc, I think they did about 3 or 4 tests of that nature when I got mine done. It took maybe 25 mins, but I live in Canada and it was free here and required for my new job, no idea what it would cost there, if its inexpensive and you're worried I'd do it as its very easy and kinda humorous. They hook you up to a bunch of sensors and have you work out, run on treadmills and lay down for awhile, run some more and that kind of stuff :).

I agree with Conan. When our number is up, it's up. You could be home watching Desparate Housewives or riding Dumbo. I always tell my family I'm going to live until I die, and I mean LIVE! That being said as I've gotten older the rides affect my body differently, I listen to it and avoid the ones that make me feel weird. Just do what you're comfortable with there is no rule that you have to do everything! Have a magical vacation! :wizard:
