Any SUV recommendations?

I have a Nissan XTerra...they are large and aroudn $21,000 are relatively cheap in the SUV field. I love mine.

I Love my Suburban! Wouldn't trade it for anything ( at least right now! a smaller car in the way future might be okay). I can go to Home Depot and buy just about everything. I have tons of room for my shopping hobby :lmao: Our family of 4 and my Mom and Dad can go on vacation with plenty of room. Love Love Love it :) Good luck with your choice.

I'm on my 3rd SUV and honestly don't think one is much different than another. Unless you're talking space. Of course a smaller model will be smaller.

They use a lot of gas, and in my opinion they are ugly, but they kick butt on the snow.

Last year, I traded in my Ford Explorer for a Hyundai Tucson. The Tucson may look smaller on the outside, but it has so much more leg room and the back is deceiving also. It is much bigger than it looks and has a hidden storage area (for small items) under the back. I'd say it's worth a look, especially if you're interested in saving $$. I get much better gas mileage and payments were about $100 less.

I have a '95 Chevy Tahoe, and I wouldn't trade it for the world. 150k miles, and still going strong. And it handles like a champ in the snow that we get here in Wisconsin. And personally, if I'm ever going to buy another SUV, I'm going Tahoe (or the GMC Yukon). You can't beat the reliability.

skip the Escape and look at the Tribute which is basically the same car except nicer interior and a better warranty.

SUBARU!!!
I have to say I love my Subaru Tribeca B9!!! It is so roomy inside, but not big or bulky or hard to drive. I opted for the 3rd row and we are so glad we did!! There is plenty of room in the back for 2 dogs! There are so many great things about this SUV, too many to list. DH and I get new cars every 2 years so we have had just about everything out there!!LOL We were so impressed by the Subaru. I also love how it drives and it is great in the snow. It did really well for safety too. After flipping over several times in our Jeep Grand Cherakee, safety was the most important thing when shopping for an SUV. Our other car is a Mercedes and even though nothing compares to the way that drives, my Subaru comes pretty close!!! :thumbsup2

I have the B9 too- isn't it a dream? we got the 3rd row seating as well- too tight back there for adults, but fine for our kids when they want to spread out. I LOVE ours. I also like that I am starting to see more on the road. we got ours last January, and we drove all the way down to San Diego and back in June and saw only ONE other Tribeca. Now I see them almost daily on the road. I know very few people who have bad things to say about Subarus. They are RELIABLE.

Another Suburban owner here. The back cargo area of the Suburban is huge ( and even bigger with the 3rd seat out!!) This is my second Suburban and we had over 100,000 miles on the first and only had to replace a fuel pump -- nothing else was done except tires and oil!! Great car.

I have a Ford Escape Hybrid and absolutely love it! It hold 5 of us, including one in a car seat. The gas mileage is awesome (30-33 MPG) and it is so fun to drive. Plus, I like that I am doing my small part ecologically (both of our cars are hybrids).

I just bought an '06 Nissan Pathfinder. It has a 3rd row that's perfect for my 7y/o and his friend. Those seats fold down flat and the cargo area is awesome! It has dual heat/air in the front and my son can operate his air in the back. I traded my Maxima in and still feel like I'm driving it when I drive the Pathfinder. I was anti-SUV until I was at a trauma conference and see what they do to cars when they hit them. Where I live there are more trucks and SUV's than cars so I decided to get one. Now I'm asking myself what took so long :rotfl:

I would go with the Subaru if you had your heart set on it. Subaru's all wheel drive system is one of the best in the world, and there is a reason why they keep on winning so many races with it. The Forrester being more of a car will be a little more fun to drive too, and it doesn't weigh nearly as much as an SUV either. I'd definitely go with that.

We just got THE WIFE a BMW X3 a few months back, so I inherited the 2004 Durango/hemi.

The Durango will fit all of that and more, Third row folds down and has plenty of room for the dogs.

The X3 is more CAR sized but it handles like a sports car.

DH and I are looking at trading my truck in this spring, before the baby is born. We can't fit a car seat in the back seat of my truck, so it's time to get rid of it. I need to get something with 4WD so I'll be able to get home in the winter, and something large enough for 2 adults, 1 baby, all the stuff for the baby, and 2 dogs (think BIG dogs) We were looking at Ford Escapes and Subaru Foresters, but if anyone else has any other recommendations, I'd love to hear them.

I love my ford explorer it seats 7 with the double row of seats. Its perfect for my two teenagers and all the carpooling I do.

Honda! CRV or Pilot. They maintain value better than most and are reliable! Great SUV's. We are looking to get me a new Honda in the spring when DS is old enough to have DH's truck. :scared1:

I think the Ford Escape, Honda CRV and Jeep Liberty are too small for your needs. I test drove the first two and bought the Jeep Liberty  (which I LOVE!!) but it's only my DS (7) and I. We took it on a road trip to KY and it was perfect for the two of us... add another person or one (let alone two large dogs) wayyyyyy too small.

Good luck with your decision! :thumbsup2

This is so good to hear! I hope to get a Tahoe or a Yukon next year myself.
One of these would probably be a great SUV for the OP - not too big or too small! :thumbsup2

I agree with this post. We had an Explorer and had to get the Expedition because my darling children were trying to eliminate their siblings so they could have more room! We had 2 Rottweiler's at the time and could not fit them in the car with us. With the Expedition we get 3 bench seats, rear a/c and heat controls, and a choice of 2-wheel, all-wheel, or 4-wheel drive. I put 2 kid's in the middle and have ds ride in the rear in the smaller of the split bench seats. The larger side of the bench is put down so the dog we have now, 100 lb Rottie, can lay down. The only complaint I have is the gas mileage is not so great.

Another thing to consider is future children. When we got the Explorer we didn't count on twins! You may be toting twice the amount of gear a few years down the road.
